What’s going on on the jean front this season ?
Well for me, you know I am cray cray (learning ridic american expressions) about white jeans (well I also have affair with my cream jeans, and since we’re talking about that I think I am starting to prefer my cream jeans to my white jeans, but oh well) but on the street, I saw a lot of totally torn jeans (and OF COURSE this post is getting me to sing Natalie Imbruglia, OF COURSE). Like torn like, super weirdly torn. What kind of bug from outer space would tear a pair of jeans THAT way ? Srlsy ?
Yep. I kind of have the feeling that the kind of outer space bug is called Acne, but I am not a 100% sure as I am not a very good fashion student and I went to their website and I didn’t find anything like that. Must be from last season. OR those girls are experts at the new way to rip their jeans.
As I was on Acne’s website though I saw a million of white jeans (=4), with that kind of cut, not slim, not totally boyfriend, kind of aaaaa… Mom jeans (don’t tell me you don’t know the expression, I brought it back from Phoenix last Christmas) (Ok can somebody explain what a mom jean is ? I am not sure I have enough vocabulary to do that) well anyway. I kind of like that mom jeans cut.
So we can imagine that in the next few days I may go to Acne to try on all that and that I’ll let you know what happens there. By the way, loving the skirt even more. Don’t you ?
All right, before I go, let me tell you I’ll also let you know about my hair. Don’t go thinking that with all the advice you gave me yesterday, that I will let you go without any detailed feedback. Neeeeeeeeeeu !
This trend is great! I already love it.
I found where to get these jeans here : http://wheretoget.it/look/11894

I have to admit I wasn’t so keen on the ripped jeans look, but it’s slowly growing on me and I must say I do like that Acne skirt :-)

I love the torn jeans look with crisp separates. It almost looks office/cocktail worthy. Great post, as usual!

I love the last skirt! Torn jeans seem to be sort of tired, but the skirt is a great new take. And I can’t wait to see your new hair! :)

Yus! I can pull out my torn jeans and not look homeless. Haha

I love the skirt in the last picture, gorgeous!!
Another link on where to get the jeans: http://www.net-a-porter.com/Shop/Designers/Acne/Clothing
Love this post and LOVE the torn skirt from Acne!
xo Sari
I believe that both you and Scott are really into jeans and all their various shapes and sizes right now, lots of good photos
love the acne skirt!!

acne- HEX jeans. Perfect.
It seems like I followed intuitively “the something” in the air as I cut my jeans skirt on the border to make it less “well behaved”. But this goes much further. Mmm, let’s share the know-how!

well, nop, I do not like such kind of jeans. They remind me of the 80s. They should stay there, where they belong.
I am not always interested into those pieces that make a come back. they’ve done their era, now we need something new!
don’t you think so?

Inspiring!!!! J’adoooore le jean!
http://www.suspiciousmindsinparis.com
i definitely somewhat like this trend except i do think it feels a bit weird to be wearing and buying something that you did not personally rip yourself. just a bit off. but i think it looks chic just the same.
xx, http://wordbyjessie.com/
Well, those jeans are definitely mom jeans. I think they are not very flattering. At least not for a 1.55 cm tall girl like me!!!
Vive le jean !

Mom jeans reviitées, ouais, j’aime bien.

-Less is more-
‘I think the most important a woman can have in life , next to talent – of course, is her hairdresser’
T’en penses quoi? Back to basics.

“Mom jeans is a satirical term for a perceived fit of women’s jeans considered very unflattering, consisting of a high waist (a few inches above the belly button), which accentuates a flat curvature of the buttocks, as well as generous cuts in the stomach and leg”…. :)
The jeans from your post I think they are more boyfriend jeans than mom jeans.
Bye
I thought mum jeans are ‘no-bullshit’-jeans. as in, slim-straight cut, not low-waist, not high-waist, something in between…. I can see them coming back in style now. But that’s what they said about flares last year, however, they have most certainly not taken over the role of the skinny jean. (Yet?)
Also: how grungy do those skirts and jeans make the women look? They look amazing.

Love the generous cut of these jeans (they’re actually not mom jeans, which are more high waisted, like just under the bosom) but not so much the ripping. I’ll be wearing my only slightly frayed pairs this season. Also will be ripping the hem out of my denim skirt to make it, as Loulune said, less well behaved.

Love the jeans, but…the skirt ?

Im not very fond of this trend but I love other people wearing it!
In order to pull this off you’ve got to get the rip right. I agree an earlier comment about the 80’s (even the 90’s). I can’t help but think of Saved By the Bell when I see torn jeans. Mom jeans are more high waisted. There is such a funny SNL skit on them. Wish I could link it!
The jeans must be new season as they have them on Net a porter. I like them and the skirt. Only if you are tanned though! Pale skin & ripped mom jeans is not a good look.
Yep just checked and still there. An eye watering £350.
oh my gosh..you look like a completely different person.
I like the straight hair on you. But if I may say something…(which I think others have hinted at in the past comments) ..and also coming form personal experience;
Its ok to do a fabulous blowout/straightening once in a while to change things up.
But in general, dont fight the real texture of your hair. If you blowdry/straighten curly hair everyday, after a while the hair begins to look dull. I dont want you to loose that brilliant youthful glow that i saw in the videos (even if it was constantly in a poneytail).
you’re not wrong… they are Acne pants, and after seeing them many times I’m considering about new shapes on jeans besides the skinny ones!
http://brandnewbyanna.blogspot.com
Is the first photo of the same woman Scott photographed a while back? http://www.thesartorialist.com/photos/all-the-pretty-photographers-part-xii/. I totally crushed on her style then, and I love it just as much now. So pulled together but FUN. More photos of her please!
I dont’ know. I’m not 100% comfortable wearing torn jeans but if Acne has your desired fit, by all means get some!
I’ve tried a few jeans that have the slightest of tears here and there and I just can’t get myself to buying them. Just typing this out makes me realize how insecure I feel about them! hahahaha!!
I’ll stick to what makes me feel good for now ;)

Is that you Garance in the skirt? You look so pretty! ! I like hair! :)
I have a love/hate relationship with jeans. Lately, I have put my blue jeans into storage, since my gray ones seems so much more charming. BUT I am looking forward to summer so I can wear my slouchy torn jeans again. It’s still too cold here in Montreal!

MOM JEANS… you really need to watch the skit written and played by Tina Fey for SNL. She is genius.
Love them! I have to find some old jeans and start a diy project to get something similar!

Will shredding and rips make this look cool again? If so, I’ve got a certain closet to raid immediately!
I like the look, but I think you have to pair it the right way! They’re such a staple piece, I like pairing it with simplicity. Makes it more chic.
Yeah, this is an odd trend. I remember when it was in back in the 80s. It’s one of those things like ironic t-shirts or trucker hats, are you wearing it because you’re so hip and stylish? Or because you literally couldn’t care less about your appearance? I do think that on the right person, with the right attitude, it does look pretty cool. But I doubt I’ll be sporting this look anytime soon.

Bonjour Garance,
Magnifique tes photos Garance!
Hannnn!! #recup #patchwork #DIY?!..

Here you go for the jeans! they are Acne for sure :)

Love the skirt!
http://www.fotoestudio.es
Love holes in jeans only when they are worn/earned but do love the shape of them. I prefer jeans that look like good old fashioned dungarees/501s. Everything else is a denim pant. Where did you find cream denim?!
Thanks for your hard work!

3rd picture, anybody knows where is the pastel green jacket from?
or this faaancy pinkish shoe creation???
Lol, Garance, feedback from you is ALL I WANT.
about the jeans, i’m not sure they are my cup of tea honestly. I don’t like the they they are unfolded in the second picture.
and the shape of them are too baggy for someone who doesn’t have a model body figure like me.
I think people should always take a second or more to think about what is best for them before following trends that are given by the magazine or those fashion role models in streets and photographs.
well, just my opinion~
can’t wait t hear from you!!
Comment dire…

Wow I’m so in love with this trend
I really love Columbine’s jeans and Hedvig’s skirt!! So perfect! Want this

Garance,
I agree with Natasha first of all, that irony is major component that makes this look work for someone in their own minds, but oh for such a limited time.
Ugly chic (as above) reminds me of a time not so long ago when knee-length jersey gauchos were everywhere, and like the emperors new clothes scenario, we walked around unaware of our own ridiculousness. I am not talking about brave peacocks like Anna D, or anything Marc Jacobs–have you ever seen Anna or Elisa in anything that wasn’t ultimately flattering?
I swore never to succumb to group-think again, and to listen to the little voice in my head that says “but does it look good on YOU?” when deciding: fashion or fad?
S.
p.s. have very curly hair and loooove Bumble and Bumble everything
Hi Garance,
This is Tina Fey’s supper hilarious explanation of ‘mom jeans’, should make it pretty clear what they are. And I don’t believe they’ll ever be truly fashionable, except in the the most backwards hipster sort of way. Get ready to laugh:

These women look so beautiful, but the rips are just too outrageous for me! Way too exagerrated, that I think it looks too clownish. And to imagine what the jeans cost with so many holes just makes me cringe of being ripped off! hah! didn’t even mean the pun!!!
oh – I just don’t think I like it. I’ve tried, but I don’t see the point in it.
Bisous bisous
Yuli
Shall I be frank? This trend makes me feel nostalgic and not in a good way, although I am never the sort to dissuade anyone from getting their fashion kicks on.
Of the three looks, the first photo of the skirt with the white blouse is my favorite because it looks quite happenstance and the sexy black accents bring the look home.
There’s no real way to explain mom jeans, I think. You could watch the video, though: http://www.hulu.com/watch/10333/saturday-night-live-mom-jeans.
The ones above are fabulous, though. I love how ow they sit on the hips. :)
Destroyed denim <3
Oh I don’t like these torn jeans thing. I mean, I love Acne, but those jeans seem too short lived a trend for my taste. Nahhh.. not for me. The skirt, however, is slightly more appealing.
Voilà le denim de la deuxieme photo
http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/180608?cm_sp=we_recommend-_-180608-_-slot2
et…..c’est ACNE….bravo!!!!
Not alien bug, but cat attack.
Yes, those kind of pants are called mum’s jeans, American apparel also make similar jeans but i don’t really like them cause it’s quality is not so good, Acné ones look more modern and perdurable but Why don’t you try at Gap of levi’s, the “American denim masters”?
http://lhedonista.blogspot.com
It reminds me of high school – which was a while ago. Torn jeans were “in”, but my mom was horrified that I wanted to wear them to a restaurant. I tried to explain to her that it was the fashion, but she was very embarrassed. I think that once you lived a trend, you don’t want to repeat it.

I love the last skirt… These women look amazing and I love the lighter denim.
http://www.greeneggsandglam.blogspot.com
typically i don’t love the torn denim look, but i think that’s usually when it’s used on denim shorts that are much too short and have way too many holes. but on mom jeans and knee-length skirts, it somehow works!
I don’t think every one is realizing that the beautiful girl in the skirt is you, no? You always look amazing but with your hair down, even more finished. I agree with the comment to not straighten your hair to often to prevent dryness. I learned how to use a large barrel curling iron on my air dried curly hair to make controlled waves and the best part is it can be done in 15 minutes!
I think the ripped stuff sold out online but the jacket is called ‘Fever Trash’. Pretty epic ripping on some of the jackets and skirts! Also their new ‘Scully’ denim skirt (although not torn) is pretty amazing!

too funny! I will ALWAYS love “mom” or “boyfriend” jeans, on women – especially paired with a glamorous heel. and those “cut” denim skirts are beyond divine.
but the jeans in the second photo look overdone? too many holes? anyway, something’s off…

To me the jeans look just like how vintage Levis’s 501 jeans fit. They always seem to be an odd length (usually too short) And long in the crotch. As always beautiful and entertaining post! Merci!

Bises,

Hi Garance! Let me give you the best advice. I’ve had really curly hair since born and I do actually know how much stress can it cause into your everyday life. I’m 22 now, and it finally seems I succeeded in controlling my hair and not letting it control me instead. I just use shampoo and a comb with the conditioner under the shower, and then, with wet hair I put Schwarzkopf Silhouette mousse super hold, the black bottle, as you can see (3rd bottle from the left) here: http://www.schwarzkopf-professional.es/productos/acabado/silhouette/gama-de-producto/fijacion-extra-fuerte/
It is the one and only capable of avoiding the frizzy look. I’m usually told that I use too much amount of foam by my mother, but I’m just too tired of worrying all day long about my hair, and you can regulate that depending on your needs! It is, as we can see on the bottom of the bottle, super hold, so your hair can look a bit wizened, but you can manage that with your hands, making it a little smoothier…
And finally, when I can I let it dry on its own, and sometimes I use a blow drier with a diffuser, it has no secret with the marvelous Schwarzkopf foam!!! I have long hair now, I avoid hairdressers because curly hair is less curly with more weight and when the bottom is a bit burnt…even it sounds awful…But with your short hair it should be fantastic too!
Merci Garance….
J’te confirme c’est du ACNE !

Salut Garance,

Hi everyone!
Like me, I’m sooooooo sure that 95percent of commentators did not know that it was YOU, Garance, in the third photo!
Wow! Totally different person w all that hair. Please do a “pardon my French” in such moda. would love to see your face in action surrounded by your beautiful hair.
I do like the bun–Myself, it’s the French twist or pony tail….whatever to get that hair off my face!
As for the jeans…torn hmmmmm. C’est passé pour moi!! love your shot though.
This is Acne ss 2012 :)
And I personally love it, coolest denim I’ve seen for ages!
not everyone suits a ripped jean but this lady totally pulls it off!!

You look much, much prettier with straight hair!!!

WOW! Lovely! We really like this outfit!
I bought the Acne torn jean jacket and I LOVE IT.
Go for it Garance!
I just fell in love with the first photo <3
Do not like the jeans, I think on anyone other than a model they would be very unflattering, plus, I think the whole torn jean thing is a bit contrived looking. Like one has put too much effort into looking effortless. Just my opinion. Am more open to the skirt, actually I kind of like it.

quoique, en blanc, justement !
I’m so happy that this style is back. I have so many items that I can reuse!

But I have to say what I really like are “naturally torn” jeans… you know, those ones destroyed by time! :)
oh I love the first picture.
I was going to purchase one of these for london fashion week. I’m heading out tomorrow to find one for the week end xx Love denim I just posted a piece today on my denim dungarees.

Bye bye
Hi Garance!

Beautiful pictures. On hair/blowdrying etc, I have all the same issues. Weirdly, I was advised to make more of my eyebrows to help fix the hair thing – and it actually worked a bit?! I now fill them in and make them slightly darker (Laura Mercier do good pencils) – all the way to the ends. It somehow makes my curly and unruly hair less of a problem when my face is better framed with a stronger, neater brow.
I love your style!!

love the high-waisted jeans skirt!
you’re not wrong… they are Acne pants, and after seeing them many times I’m considering about new shapes on jeans besides the skinny ones!
J’aime vraiment les chaussures sont fantastiques.
