Summer seems soooooo long ago! These photos of Lou Doillon are from this past summer in Paris. I shot them for the October catalog of Free People.
I should tell you that the ambiance was exactly how it sounds… Free. That’s why I’m just pleased to share these shots with you.
The idea was to simply spend a day with Lou, snapping photos here and there as if we were two friends hanging out.
Her part of town is near the Bastille. We had breakfast in her kitchen. I met her lovely dog, and after a few photos in her apartment, we went to the Marché D’Aligre, and then lunch at Mamie Green, an awesome little organic restaurant where we were treated like royalty… We finished up the shoot at BottleShop, a bar where I got sloppy drunk once that I’ve always loved.
A few days later, her album came out…

Ps. Il faut nous dire plus souvent quand vous faites des sorties, car chaque
fois que je suis à Paris ou à NY, jamais je n’ai été assez chanceuse pour y être alors
que vous nous lanciez une invitation à une exposition, une conférence, etc !
J’aime bien Lou, elle colle tellement bien à l’esprit de la marque ( ça fait bizarre de dire Lou comme ça sans Doillon ). Belles photos !

Chouette ! Finalement Lou, on l’a connait sans la connaître et j’espère que son album va lui permettre d’être reconnue à sa juste valeur !
Il avait l’air très relax ce shooting ! D’ailleurs, je voudrais savoir sur un shooting dit “streetstyle”, est-ce que vous avez une équipe de maquilleurs/coiffeurs ou bien c’est plus wild ?

J’admire cette fille depuis toujours, sa voix, son franc parler, sa beauté sauvage, son corps de liane qui reste féminin…
J’adore l’actrice, j’adore son look et maintenant j’adore la chanteuse.
J’admire la façon dont elle a pris son temps, laisser germer l’idée.
Dans cette famille d’artiste il doit être très compliqué de trouver sa place. Et toutes les filles de Jane sont formidables.
Bref, gros crush.

Lou est une reine, sa voix est tellement surprenante, on dirait une folkeuse du fin fond des US. J’adore cet album, et l’offre à tout le monde depuis sa sortie. Vos univers s’emboitent parfaitement et je trouve ces clichés super inspirant. Merci Garance!

Great photos! I love her jewellery and the way she wears jeans – very feminine. Fantastic voice but unfortunately I find her music very derivative and therefore boring. A shame really.
She is beautiful and as usual your shoot brings out the best of a person :-)

A few years ago on a Sunday i was crossing Lafayette st near Spring and i saw a women bending over a large old large black Birkin bag and when she stood up …it was Jane Birkin she was out with her daughter Lou!

Lou has such an infectious smile and easy laugh. But Garance, I imagine you become friends with everyone you interview–you’re the kind of person people want to be around.

Très belle série de photos… Lou ressemble tellement à sa mère et en même temps, elle a tellement son propre style et identité. Bastille et le marché d’Aligre me rappellent également de très bons souvenirs puisque j’y ai vécu 10 ans ( et c’est vrai que j’y ai croisé plusieurs fois Lou, son fils, son chien )
Et pour répondre à ta question, oui, j’ai écouté son album… Un joli timbre de voix et de belles ballades…

hihi j’habite juste à côté et un jour je l’ai croisée dans un bar, c’est dingue cette fille respire le naturel, le charme et surtout la simplicité! Elle était super simple, super élégante et discrète à la fois, ça donne vraiment envie de la connaître. Jusqu’à y a peu de temps, je l’aimais bien tout en me demandant si je devais la considérer comme une it-girl (brrr ceterme) ou une véritable artiste, j’ai ma réponse, son album est une vraie réussite!
Tu parles souvent d’artistes et de femmes très inspirants au quotidien, auxquels on a réellement envie de s’identifier car ils sont si humains… merci une fois de plus Garance!
