What do you think about the jeans in this photo?

Could be better, right? Even so, I love this outfit. The cape, the shirt, even the color and fit of the jeans (skinny but a little slouchy – there’s an art to it) – the whole ensemble totally inspires me. But when you take a closer look, don’t you think the zipper is a little too short? Isn’t the stone wash a little too exaggerated? Isn’t the double pocket detail a bit too much?

Am I going too far? You tell me.

Anyway, you’ve probably figured out by now, I’m a little crazy when it comes to jeans. And I’m the one who used to love buying jeans at Zara, closing my eyes to any of the little details that I was not crazy about. But I ended up getting tired of the pockets being too small, the slightly dubious inscriptions, and the weird mustache lines (you know – the faded creases right at crotch level!).

But even so, I never became a purist. The 501 jean material, for example, is way too thick for me. I like thin and stretchy jeans – not pure at all ;)

So white jeans are usually my fall back (it’s hard to mess up the color). I like MiH, Mother, Current Elliott, etc. And I don’t wear blue jeans. But actually, with spring arriving, I kind of feel like expanding my jean options…

What do you think? What are you like when it comes to jeans – super purist or are you more relaxed about them? Do you have any tips for me?

  • I’m so picky about jeans too! Usually I just end up buying the Always Skinny Legging jeans from the Gap because they are super skinny and stretchy. I want more white jeans for Spring and Summer!

  • Me too! I try so many other pairs in the eternal search for the perfect jean and always return to the always skinny at GAP. Actually people never pick where they are from but always complement me. Gosh I feel like I just outed myself! I’m a proud always skinny jean wearer. Oh my.

I am that picky as well, but I can’t ever wear gap jeans. They just don’t fit me. they are too straight or something. i don’t mean in the leg, I mean in the hip. I like Levis high rise skinny best. Its simple, and it works. But I love vintage Levi’s as well. Actually there are lots of jeans I like. And I don’t mind the slightly exaggerated pocket detail. But never the short zipper like that. I think only ladies with very short hips can wear Gap. I couldn’t take the crotch lowering like that.

  • I thought I was picky when buying jeans but this is taking overanalyzing to the next level.

  • I like the jeans on the picture and the whole outfit, the cape is really nice too!!!

  • I love this pic, me I love distressed skinny denim I only have a couple plain denims.

  • I am not a purist but I detect a tacky jean here……it somehow makes the girl look like a sausage….and the crotch is nearly camel toe …..the rest of her outfit is great

I tend to go for slouchy men’s or boyfriend jeans, any cloth is fine but not super skinny and not too tight and stretchy because I get claustrophobic and also I travel a lot so I get the impression that they are bad for the circulation
I particularly like the black R13 and the YSL skinny that Anjelina Jolie wears the whole time

I have not yet found the white jean of my dreams , so far I buy the vintage Jcrew for me in thick canvas
and in blue jeans I like them as anonymous and beaten up as posible. I love Current Elliot too.

  • Love the photo!! The looks is amazing. I really love the jeans combined with this wonderful cape. I’m so purist about jeans too and sometimes it’s hard to find the perfect one!

I wear blue jeans every day… skinny or straight.. medium rise… darker denim… thinner with some stretch… most days with short boots or my fryes.. they go with everything and I can dress them up with heels and a nice blouse.. they are my uniform.

  • I am a denim addict!… I love jeans as I think they are the hardest working item in a closet!!…
I recently did an interview for Eat Sleep Denim talking about my obsession with jeans!
    (see more here: http://eatsleepdenim.com/blog/denim-style/reader-spotlight-my-clay-experiences-extensive-denim-collection/#.Uv5UxkJdWXM )

For me, the pic above is perfect…. the imperfections of it make it so!!.x

    xoxo

  • Another vote for Madewell Skinny Skinny – with zip pour moi!

  • As a jeans designer I’m always on the hunt for the perfect jeans, and yes, I also obsess over small details when finding myself a good pair. Maybe that’s why I have so many lying in my closet. I always seem to dislike one or two things about any jeans I get. But then again, it keeps me from getting to many and provides me with work. Win/win situation right ;) xo Hanneke

  • I am picky about EVERYTHING but not to this degree. I want to be sure that my jeans fit the way I like them to, that they look good, that they’re functional. Extra details (or not) are personal. I’ve bought cheap jeans and expensive ones that both have trouble with pockets or other issues…so it’s not just the Zara denim. I actually like everything about the photo, and I think you’re getting way too bogged down in the details if you’re picking apart the details of the jeans in that photo. I love you and your blog, but “the zipper is a little too short”?? REALLY? Hm.

  • Yes, jeans were not my favorite pants for a very long time, since I’ve been doing ballet for so long. The constriction of my stretching really turned me off, but then of course, I found my perfect pair.
    Your Friend, Jess

  • I am picky but I’m also cheap! I used to like the cut of the Rockstar jeans from Old Navy, but their quality and sizing is too spotty to continue on with them. Now I’ve had some luck with jeans from Forever 21. They are cheap and will probably not be mistaken for being designer, but usually have some nice washes and styles. Of course this is because they copy the higher end brands, but still the overall look is actually more high end than many jeans from the middle price range (say $40-80). My weight fluctuates too frequently for me to care to spend very much on denim and I can’t tolerate an uncomfortable pair of jeans. I prefer a mid- to high waist and a slim (not skinny!) leg. I like my ankles to be able to breathe.

  • The straight super stretch by American Eagle are simply amazing. I stumbled upon them by accident, and now I want to own a pair in every colour/wash. Thankfully the price makes this easy to do.

  • I am picky for jeans as well… but I have hard time finding the right shape since I am a little curvy, and I like when they are tight at the ankles, but not too tight on the thighs… I really don’t like when they are thin and too stretchy, so it makes finding the right shape really hard, since they have to fit well. I was lucky enough to find a great pair in black at Levis, and a pair of nice, dark blue, with no embelishments at Guess,so that’s pretty much it.

Je me suis dit: facile, zara.

  • I think it’s kinda mean to critique someone’s look. You have a great blog and I bet a lot of people are flattered to see their faces on here. It would really be a bummer to then see a bunch of people picking apart your outfit, especially since style is really all about personal taste and preferences – there’s no wrong answer! What if this girl feels like a rock star in those jeans? If that’s what’s going to make her walk down the street feeling like she’s invincible, then that’s what matters, and that’s the joy people get out of dressing themselves with thoughtfulness and self-expression in mind. I just think you keep a wonderful light and fun mood on this blog, with moments of insight and great dialogue, and I would hate to see it become a place where people’s unique style is scrutinized instead of celebrated.

  • Expressing one’s own taste, though, must be admitted.

  • Agree with Daza .

  • I used not to wear blue jeans because everyone does wear them. But lately I realized that it how you wear them that set you apart and what image you are trying to project. Some looks just don’t work without blue jeans. In general I look at them as a “clear canvas” for my outfit. They stand for something usual that people feel comfortable with, so you could wear whatever with them something crazy or super minimalistic and it won’t look over the top. I prefer black/grey/white jeans but do have blue as well.

  • This is a different conversation entirely, but I am really liking these boyfriend jeans from Adriano Goldschmied right now: http://www.theseventhsphinx.com/fashion/features/the-tuxedo-blazer/

I have a pair from Free People I really like the fit of as well – snug and slightly stretchy but not stretching too much anywhere, and massive back pockets to make my bum look sort of…generous, friendly. The pockets make a huge difference, I think, and it often comes down to the fit in that hip area. This pair, skinny and tight with a ever so slightly dropped crotch, not my favorite look (really not forgiving, either) but I can like it with cool sneakers and more of a casual grunge vibe going on with the rest of the outfit, if you follow.

  • ACNE ACNE ACNE. Simple, beautiful. No weird logos/stitches/pockets/stone wash effects.

    xx

  • I make, design, develop jeans and have done so for about 20 years so I have seen it all….when it comes to overall look, I always go for cleaner. If I am looking for something more worn in, then I get really picky – all of the finishing MUST look natural. I LOVE APC Butler Jeans – someone has lived through the stiff raw stage for you and it hasn’t been faked in a factory so the wear is real. And always say NO to heavy back pocket stitches and or topstitching – very mass volume.
    XO

  • I’m a big fan of jeans, I think they make your outfit look casual yet chic.

    J’adore!

  • I am quite relaxed when it comes to jeans. I stick to the classic models and when they are pick correctly to the body shape they usually look great x and i quite like the classic blue jeans look

  • Caroline Mt March, 10 2014, 11:48 / Reply

  • I think it is interesting to read the comments as to everyone’s likes and dislikes. Jeans are so tricky and very personal. I love her look and I agree, I struggle with the length of her zipper. Why, oh why is that done?

  • Caroline March, 10 2014, 11:51 / Reply

Ça me rappelle mes années collège! Bises Garance! x

  • Hahaha… I agree with you, the zippers do seem short! The double pocket detail doesn’t seem to bother me so much but the stone wash is a little much for me. I am quite fussy with my jeans too! I predominantly wear plain black or very dark blue jeans. In summer, I do venture to grey and white occasionally. I actually love the plain black/dark blue stretchy skinny jeans from Uniqlo – there are absolutely no weird details/branding and great fabric at a great price. I have multiples of them. I am not a fan of blue stone washed jeans in skinny fit but love a blue stone washed boyfriend jeans. I am not sure what it is about skinny blue stone wash jeans but I can’t seem to find the perfect blue and stone wash that I love. Maybe I just don’t have the legs to carry them. I think you need quite slender legs as the stone wash is not forgiving. For boyfriend jeans, I love G Star Raw. They do have very nice washes that look naturally worn in.

  • Completely addicted to jeans. I hate bad washing effects, I like the rise to be high and the leg opening to be slim but not too tight. The blue is essential of course but also the thickness of the cloth. I am now completly into the 90’s high waist, 100% cotton, true blue and straight leg look.

    Favorites:
    – Acne Flex and Needle – but i like the heavyweight denim ones and the sizes vary.
    – MIH – Boston, Brighton and Halsy.
    – H&M: Higher rise skinnies
    – Citizens of Humanity Arleigh

I would love to try APC, The Line, BLK DNM ones, but I just have to be a little bit sensible.

Then there is my weight fluctuation which doesn’t help as 1 kilo more or less will make some jeans look better or worse.

    And the collection keeps growing…
I have to sell some on ebay.

Do Jeans Anonymous exist? That’s a good brand, actually.

  • Jean Touitou l’explique parfaitement:

  • What would I wear on a daily basis without jeans? The entirety of denim’s cultural influence is phenomenal because it remains one of the most personal items in MANY people’s closets.
Black and dark denim are best for versatility. I buy black jeans in straight and skinny fits, some with zippers or cropped, and wear some out while keeping others in clean condition. Dark denim from Acne or Madewell are my favorites.
A few pairs of light blue straight leg boyfriend jeans can look great, and I think they look best cropped at the ankle or cuffed. I don’ think light blue, skinny denim looks very good on the majority of people.
As for you, Garance, please buy a pair from Chimala for spring. They’d look absolutely stunning on you.

I have to agree with DAZA. I think it’s a pitty, that you created this topic through critique of someones outfit. The girl looks great . I suppose it would be better to raise this conversation without pointing out flaws of jeans on this girl, which probably really is a matter of taste and preferences. And again I think her outfit is great and this photo alone would work nice for conversation about jean experiences.

  • I have jeans of every category, Zara, H&M, J brand, Current Elliot, AG, Levis….. the list goes on… and I must say, that I have favorites that are quite expensive Jeans, but some of my absolute favorites at the moment are from H&M, black, perfect cut for me, perfect wash, no silly unnecessary details, pure and simple. So for me really there is no rule, I have to try a jeans and then I know if it’s for me or not. I love jeans that are simple, the simpler the better and I really want to try the Frame denims, but so far I only found them online, might be worth it to try them. So sorry, no tips from me, I guess I’m on the hunt for the perfect jeans since 14 ;-) xxx

  • Uncharacteristically critical for you — however, it is untapped territory…
Why do seemingly good outfits sometimes miss?

Perhaps the details of the jeans are the problem — but I blame the overall “Up-tightness.”

Weird rigid constricting fabric of cape…strange bolo tie-effect…heavy man metal on the belt…and her inability to carry anything but a phone…

Contrasted with the happy yellow coat shot you previously posted? I think it is all about chic = comfort = happy = style success.

    Hi,
i am totally with you on this one. i am picky, too, when it comes to jeans. i used to buy zara jeans as well yet somehow they didn’t fit me perfectly… zipper too short, pockets too small for my butt. it always looked weird. i am i big fan of black and grey jeans, in the summer even red or turquoise. try H&M jeans. they fit me perfectly. or cimarron! i love them. very nice soft fabric. and they come in every colour!

  • I am loving rag & bone jeans I find they are a good fit, don’t stretch out and are comfortable all day long; I am loving The Dre, and their Skinny jeans. I, like many who have commented, like a jean without obvious logos and without obvious distressing. Also loving my R13 Camo Moto Pants and wear them like a neutral. I find R13 to be inconsistent in their fit and fabric, but my camo pants are good :)

  • When I see pictures of other stylish girls wearing blue jeans, I always think “hold on, I should wear mine again!” but eventually it never works out as I want it too. I don’t know but, black jeans make me look so much thinner and white jeans look so much cleaner. As for the jeans themselves, I am always setting a goal for getting a good quality pair (like Jbrand) but I end up spending the money on more exciting pieces (recently: Dolce and Gabbana silk voluminous dress) and am forced to buy Zara ones. Nevertheless, I think they look perfectly stylish too and no one (maybe except you) notices the little imperfections,, I hope :)

    Helllooooooo Garaaaance ! :)

I am a denimhead and after an endless search, I have found the perfect brand: R13! Pricey but perfect!!!

Les Imogene and Willie, que j’ai connus grâce au Sartorialist… made with love in the US!

  • Mother jeans have that lightweight stretchy feel. Some people have described them as “gummy”. They wear well, but size down because they will stretch! On about the third day of wear they have that nice slouchy look going for them. It’s both great and a pain. Citizens of Humanity Rockets are freaking fabulous too (I have the dark wash). The coloring on them is so good people have stopped me on the street to ask me what jeans I’m wearing. Plus, minimal detailing so the focus is how good the jeans fit, not the zipper.

  • Hi Garance, are you familiar with the jeans label Closed? You really should have a look at their website, very nice atmosphere. My favourite model is de Pedal Star derived from their famous (long ago) Pedal Pusher. Skinny but yet feminine and in all kind of interesting washings.
Good luck with the jeans search!

  • Jeans are not meant to be the focus of an outfit, they are like a foundation of the overall look. If the jeans fit and are comfortable, you must wear them! Any flaws like zipper length or puffy pockets should be detracted from by a longer top. BTW, this is the only photo I could find on your site that shows jeans at such a close range as well as the entire zipper/pocket area. Most photos of great looking women in jeans do not actually reveal the waistline portion of the jeans.

  • I loved it!
I’m posting looks from Los Angeles and accessories:

    http://www.thegavlaks.com

  • ACQUAVERDE!!!!

  • Super purist. I buy dark jeans and wash them with every time I wash something. My last pair got good after two years.

  • My love for jeans equals how much i hate buying them. Maybe because I get depressed every time I step into the fitting room… terrible light, mirrors everywhere, no, no, no. I never try on shirts or blouses, but come on, you have to try your pants, always, those tricky bastards wont tell you the truth unless you put them on. So, i have developed this system: first off, i read all the labels attached to the jeans to get to know the fitting, material, etc. I always search for high wasted jeans even if they are skinny ones, then I make sure they have real pockets on the back, and that the front ones are not very small. what’s whit women jeans that our pockets are so tiny and men’s are huuuge, i swear they go almost to their knees!! some of us girls doesn’t like carrying a bag all the time, and big pockets would be great to keep our keys, money and cellphone out of our hands. Oh, and also, when it comes to color I prefer the dark ones or very pale ones. Don’t know, I think they match my clothes better.

Finally, am I the only one that has trouble finding REAL skinny jeans?? I mean, skinny all the way, not only on your tights?? I always end up with too much fabric around my ankles, awful. And I’m not even that skinny.

That’s it. I think jeans and denim are very large topic. Good luck finding the right one, it’s almost as important as finding real love. :) xx

  • I recently bought a pair from “only”. They are so skinny on the bottom I have trouble getting my foot through but I’m pleased with the jeans overall. You can buy them on ASOS.

  • I remember when I was in high school, I did not feel good about my body (thighs especially) and so my mom took me to a jean boutique and bought me my first pair of Earnest Sewns. I felt like a model – finally my legs didn’t look like tree trunks. Maybe this is not the best thing to do for a teenager in terms of body image (!!!), but ever since then I’ve really been into designer denim. I use to swear by Earnest Sewn, but I’m not sure the quality is really there anymore. J Brand is okay and they have some great trend denim pieces, but honestly, I feel like generally speaking you need model legs for them…they are just not structured at all. Paige is pretty good if you just want something super basic, but I’m not convinced of the quality, though the boyfriend jeans I bought are pretty good. True Religion has AMAZING boyfriend jeans (who doesn’t want to look like a 16 year old surfer some days), but let’s be honest, the styling on some of them can be a little trashy.

But for a great classic jean and super quality, I swear by Rag and Bone, especially if you’re tired of the low-waisted, saggy butt jeans that are epidemic these days. The Skinnys fit me like a glove and they have some great, basic washes. Best jeans ever. I feel so grown up and chic in them, like I’m the Alt or something (I am 26 and a law student, so like, they work wonders!!).

I think finding a great pair of jeans means some tough self-assessment. You need to have a sense of your weak spots and your good spots too – for me, larger thighs and larger hips and a long torso, so I need high-waisted jeans that are structured around the hips/butt and give me some room in the thighs. You choose your jeans….don’t let your jeans choose you ;)

  • The picture is beautiful! One may like the jeans or not, I guess it still looks good because she is so slim. And I especially love the hair!

  • petrichore March, 10 2014, 7:58 / Reply

Quite frankly, if I could fit into a pair of jeans that small, I’d be thrilled! Good for her.

  • Imogene and Willie jeans!!!! You will thank me later!

  • I agree with above – Rag and Bone denim is magic, really. No crazy details, perfect fit that never stretches out much even if I don’t wash them for a week (or two), and somehow makes the thighs look smaller.

  • Blue jeans are a definitive classic, like a crisp white shirt, Converse, a Kelly bag, an Hermes scarf. You just need to find the brand that fits you best and has multi-options in cut, colour, style, etc., then the sky’s the limit. ; )

  • Garance! where does the cape come from? it’s absolutely gorgeous :)

  • Pascale March, 11 2014, 2:41 / Reply

  • Citizens of Humanity Ava jeans in Cannes wash. Thin, soft denim and does amazing things to your rear end. I am 5′ 10″ with long legs and they sit just on the ankle. Best jeans ever.

  • Jody Winter March, 11 2014, 3:33 / Reply

    I meant Avedon not Ava.

Impression d’avoir 18 ans. Joie.

  • Hi! I have a few old ernest sewn that i love, also rag and bone (but can’t really afford them), and i want to try APC that are supposed to be excellent. when i want cheap cheap cheap i go uniqlo (to me thay are way better than any h&m or zara).

  • I actually really like this look. I am currently debating whether or not I can pull off a pair of Mom jeans…think they look awesome, but don’t know if they are ugly/cool or just ugly?

    http://www.girlinmenswear.com

God knows I could be wrong (it happens)..but this does not sound to me like Garances’ writing voice. I’ve noticed G puts her byline on ‘her’ pieces sometimes now. Understandably, with all the success and projects…others are writing too. But, her style is unique, kind spirited..it’s hard to imitate. Gotta say….I think it’s the ‘niceness and humor, self depracation, no mean girl stuffs, not getting snobby.. .. despite meteoric rise, much deserved success…..it’s your down to earth .. “you’re one of us-ness’ , truly trying and succeeding at taking us on the inside, being kind…….when making an observation., that always keeps me coming back ….since literally day 1. Classy and fun…nice the essence of great style!

I don’t ever recall an entry this harsh. The outfit is beautiful. Perhaps it was to get the conversation fired up on all those jean details. I think fit /cut are beautiful on her….the other stuff is just personal preference. I guess that’s why there are 80 zillion jean companies offering every detail possible…..has to be profitable!

Would love to see more focus on women 50++. I don’t need or want a separate great blog for my age…..style is agelesss….and i love your take. PS..I look my age (62) and love dressing well. I dress for me…lots thrifted (not quirky or vintage look)..just contemporary..good quality, fit…and a bit of ‘sparkle’, here and there. Not too many days go by that i don’t get complimented on my style/look…(nothing specific to my face, hair or body…all of which are very mere mortal)..just the look. There are a zillion women my age-ish who spend tons more than i do on fashion…and would love to be more of the style, fashion scene here at GD.

  • jenny white March, 11 2014, 12:50

    I agree completely….

  • I agree, too. Show more stylish older women, there are lots out there.

  • Magdalena March, 11 2014, 6:18 / Reply

Garance, i totally get your point. It’s impossible to buy perfect jeans. I mean REALLY impossible. I have a few pairs of jeans – black 501’s (vintage and made for men) – absolutely not feminine, super skinnies from river island – too skinny, high waisted cheap mondays – only for ,,skinny” days, simple blue hugo boss jeans – too damn short, and so on, and so on. Firstly, i thought maybe i’m too picky, but after years and years of searching – there’so no way to find perfect jeans…

  • Audrey L. March, 11 2014, 6:23 / Reply

  • Hi, Garance!
This girl on the picture – it’s me!
Thank you for your attention anyway, but I need to say that I love love love this pair of Sass&Bide jeans, because they fits me how I really like and I also in love with the combination of it’s shade and the colour of the cape )
Hope next time you will really like my outfit and by the way, HUGE thank to everyone who love this look as well)

    Maria

  • annabella March, 13 2014, 6:25

    Maria,

Just wanted to reiterate how stunningly beautiful I think your whole ensemble is in the photo!!! You really took my breath away when i first scrolled down. That kind of ‘style thrill’ does not happen very often on any blog.
From your fabulous head of hair to your elegant and unexpected shirt and tie with your perfectly fitted jeans and belt…..and then that fabulous cape to boot. Keep trusting your excellent fashion instincts…they are compelling and beautiful! I know most of us got some brilliant ideas from your ensemble… Your photo showed so many of us ‘how it’s done’….so i was grateful G posted……as you read…99% of us love this look! Thank you for the inspiration., and writing …but no need ever to apologize or try to please the photographer’s ideas of their fav jean or shoe. If you weren’t ‘style worthy” your photo wouldn’t be here. This photo made so many of us gasp with delight at your inspirtational savvy! Keep following your heart’s instinicts…you are right on! Looking forward to seeing more of your great ‘looks’! Thank you!

  • Flying Monkey have been my jeans for the past two years. They look great and are so comfortable and are made right here in LA. And guess what. Under $100 a pair. Love them.

  • Rachel Roy!!!
They are the best kept secret in denim, and SUPER CHEAP. They fit so many body types and the pockets are graded for every size, not even Rag and Bone does that!

  • Maria K., you look great in the photo, however, I agree with the critique of the jeans. I should say straight away, I’m not a fan of Sass and Bide’s designs, generally. What I find intriguing about G’s description of the jeans above was how it alerted me to the way the jeans create the impression of a heavy lidded face with whiskers in the crotch area. Very funny. Unintentional. Perhaps even Freudian in this world of compulsive brazilians. But still correctly read, in my view.

  • gonegirl March, 11 2014, 8:32 / Reply

if you like this jean, go to http://shop.imogeneandwillie.com/products/lucy-blue-ridge
these are their best fitting jean ever. I have them on right now.
if you like a little slouch, try the Clarke.

Overdose !

  • Ai-Ch'ng March, 12 2014, 12:15 / Reply

The colour combination is so lovely with the camel, white, pale blue and touch of black… the only thing that is very unflattering to the wearer is the tightness of the jeans. They look uncomfortable, and just look like she couldn’t sit down easily at a picnic, or even to drive comfortably, or do gardening in them.

If they were looser around the crotch and thigh, they’d be infinitely more flattering on the wearer. Skin-tight jeans like these pictured in any colour or wash on myself – or others – is incredibly unflattering: we look too much like we are wearing tights instead of pants and have forgotten to wear a longer top… and tight crotches and thighs are just horrible.

My favourite jeans to wear are the boys’ jeans in larger sizes from the children’s department: no frills, no fancy things – just classic washes and the perfect looser, flattering straight leg for very little money at Target; Cheap Monday jeans in a size or two up, and Nobody jeans in a size up so it sits looser on the hips and has room in the crotch and thigh.

  • Wonderful look! Bravo :)

  • I’ve never really felt that denim suits my style until I tried on J Brand’s Maria: high waisted, but not TOO high waisted, simple pockets, no frills. They come in a bunch of washes and are the most minimal jean. I just think they’re the perfect match for silks and capes and vintage pieces that need a bit of dressing down during the day, or at night when you want to look more ‘easygoing’ or ‘effortless’ (haha, there’s a concept…)

  • I just bought a pair of light colored jeans from Madewell. They’re stretchy and a little cropped. Kind if excited about them

  • Oh God, do you really read aaaalllll the comments?

I thought I will write a couple words about my jeans favs and habits after reading your article. Then I saw the tons of comments and wondered …. anyway.
I have so many jeans. In my teens and twenties I could not find any jeans for me. I am skinny with no hips at all. but I have a nice butt. So all the jeans left a big gap on the waist in the back. As the low rise jeans came on the market I was in heaven. then I even designed jeans in NYC and my pile of jeans grew higher and higher because I fit in the samples :-) … I had all washes and blues you can imagine.

The crotch is mostly my problem. But the one which fits I found on the flea market for 3 Euros. The miss sixty. They fit me just perfectly and the fabric quality is great. Thin, stretchy but still strong. It does not stretch out as most jeans do. I love skinny jeans now – or the two sizes too big slouchy ones.

As for the color I prefer a dark brownish blue, slightly faded and distressed. I finally found the right color now but not the right fit. so …. I am still searching for THE one and only perfect blue jeans.

My all time favorite is a slim grey jeans I once found at Century 21. It has little black leather details and black seams with the perfect back pocket size. It’s a 575 Denim by Frank Mechaly now being renames May75 brand.

But I have to admit I do like ZARA jeans as well. I just can trust the sizes and have great trendy jeans like tie dye ones.
Now I will read your Zara jeans experience.

    Thanks for sharing :-))))))))

  • First thing I’d like to know, where is that belt from? I keep seeing that type of buckle style but can’t secure one for myself. IT’s slowly driving me crazy!! :P
As for the jeans, I used to be super relaxed about it but lately the cheaper jeans have been falling short for me. Those exact things you described bothers me so much! I’ve been trying to invest in some more quality jeans.

    http://newbornfanatic.wordpress.com

  • Nothing better and comfier than a MOTHER pair of jeans for me! Current Elliott is cool too!

  • J’adore les slim jeans! Et la couleur est fantastique!

  • Lia Vasey March, 19 2014, 1:19 / Reply

I’m stuck on high-waisted skinnies. I can’t imagine wearing another pair of lowrise jeans…ever again.

  • I hate short zippered jeans. I want them over my hips. i don’t like that on the hip look any more. But thats a matter of taste. Some people like it, and thats OK. I like the waist a lot higher. Everything else looks quite nice to me. And she makes up for it with the lovely hair and cape.

  • Butler APC , you need to try on many of them until you find the perfect one. So I go for the 100% cotton Petit new standard, and wash them unlike the notice saying you should wear them for a few months before washing !!!!!! Then my son being very slim wears them, not too long and they remain dark blue and perfectly fitted. APC Uses Japanese denim , the best. They started a new line with some elasthane, zero interest.
GAP boyfriend 100% cotton is perfect too and easy to wear right away but difficult to find as they start adding stretch …
The secret is to change often , same as with shoes,….

  • J adore!!!

  • Paige Verdugo any day for me.

  • Purist!! I’m obsessed with the details!! I try 20 too buy a pair!! Totally understand you. MIH white Marrakech are the best for me.
