dolce-gabbana-earrings

Go big or go home?

I love love love these Dolce & Gabbana earrings. But but but… like the Balmain we talked about here, they are HUGE !

I know it’s what you call a statement jewelry, but I wonder… How heavy is too heavy when it comes to earrings? What do you think?

  • i like to look at them but i don’t have pierced ears and i don’t intend to fix that! :)

  • These earrings are beautiful but if your earlobes look really stretched because of the weight……not so hot. Kinda weird and unattractive. I guess it really depends on the materials used and whether they are super heavy or not.

  • I completely agree with Quinn. If they are stretching your ears they aren’t worth it.

  • I love them! These earrings are really beautiful!

  • I love them, but like Quinn said, droopy earlobes – not hot. I would turn one of them into a pendant for a necklace.

I love big earrings, I love big necklases, I love big cuffs !!! I think nothing big and heavy is too big and too heavy!! These earring are my favorites!!

  • Great pieces – I don’t know if I would wear them. Kind of like D&G’s “old mosaic” collection – amazing idea, beautiful art (the Byzantine mosaic style) – but it doesn’t translate so well in a (wearable) handbag. Valiant effort I would say though.

  • These are gorgeous but they would probably be too heavy for my poor ears.

  • They look really nice, but after a while wearing heavy earrings I used to get a headache and the feeling was really unpleasant. The last few years I’m more into light jewellry, love simple elegant pearl studs or little diamonds as earrings and that’s it for me!

It’s like this for me lately – the last 3-4 years, I cannot bear accesorise that are not comfortable!

  • I lvoe statement jewelry. Either that or super tiny pieces. I’m an extremist, what can I do? But statement earrings are tricky. They hurt sometimes! There was a time in my life when I couldn’t leave the house without earrings, but now I just don’t like them that much. So I’ll go for huge necklaces but tiny earrings.
    :)

  • At first glass, I thought they were ornaments! However, if earrings weight more than my phone, I better stay away…or just re-pierce my ears.
    Your Friend, Jess

  • I don’t actually wear earrings, but speaking aesthetically, they would probably cause your earlobes to stretch which really isn’t the best look. But the earrings themselves are very artistic looking!

  • As long as they are clip on earrings the bigger the better!

  • Love these!!! They pack a PUNCH!!

some heavy earrings are more…stable when they are really tightly held onto but if it’s about a hand size
they are mostly for photos and I don’t wear them for more than 2 minutes :(

    http://www.pinklemonincrystal.blogspot.com

    Merciii !

if it’s my jewelry, it’s not heavy ( sort of like the he’s my brother saying!) Besides, is anyone old enough to remember the 18 hr bra? well I have some earrings/shoes etc. that I LOVE but can only wear for a certain # of hours so I refer to them as my 8 hr or 3 hr earrings or “2 minute for foto earrings” AND my earlobes are in perfect shape because you are never going to wear something like this all day!

  • I love big earrings, such a great way to accessorise a simple outfit. However, if they’re so heavy that they’re uncomfortable then I probably shouldn’t be wearing them. Also, I hate to see stretched earlobes under the weight of big earrings.

  • I’ll stick to less is more..

  • I love those earrings with Latin American inspiration!
Would wear them -and they seem to come with a clip, so not so heavy on earlobes.

  • Yes, they come with clips so le petit trou can stay le petit trou. Unless you make the argument that the holes stretch along with the lobes. In any case, these are to be worn as frequently as bananas and pineapples on your head, so lasting damage is probably not a worry.

  • Nathalie August, 9 2013, 11:18 / Reply

  • Johanna August, 9 2013, 11:36

ahahah! Bien vu c’est tout à fait ça.

  • Looks like they’re clip on which is perfect! My mom wore the big statement earrings in the late 80’s & early 90’s, which stretched them out… now she can’t wear small studs, they go right through… lesson learned!

    x

  • ok.. yes big earrings stretch one’s lobe .. but THESE are clip ons.. probably would not stay clipped on.. a lot of times clip ons fall off..
anyway I dont know about anyone else but I am just over this big statement jewelry thing and decorating myself like a christmas tree. I find myself more attracted to something delicate and intricate and small… or I love BJORG jewelry right now too.. these dgs just arent doing it for me..

  • Well as a goldsmith and jewelry designer I can tell you that there is an exact limit to the weight of earrings: 7 gram each side. Everything heavier than that will only make your ears hurt, your head and your neck…if you wear them all day long. But I do love big pieces of jewelry as well.

  • Nini piccola August, 9 2013, 11:35 / Reply

These are spectacular!!! Wonder how heavy they are? In any case you would just wear them for a special occasion so no need to worry about lobe-stretching. I would also hang these on a wall when not wearing them.

  • This text you wrote is so very Carrie Bradshaw! If only you used a phrase: I couldn’t help but wonder … ;)

  • gorgeousss – and they look even more so against the hair, flashes of color and metal that show with movement are so chic and of the moment. most ppl already mentioned it’s unattractive if they pool….but if they pull without hurting, then wear them at night and no one will judge! they are TOO beautiful to not be worn!

  • bellissimi

  • as much as i love to adorn myself, i say NOOOO I wore heavy earrings for 20 years and now my pierced wholes are large and my lobes are saggy. I now wear a pair of diamond studs that cover the whole and do not weigh the lobe down. so, if you can’t stop yourself, just wear them once in a while for minimal time!!

weight is the limitation, not size. If they deform my earlobes, or are uncomfortable then they are too heavy. The trouble is that you can’t always tell in the shop; I have a beautiful pair of pale lilac sliced agate earrings from YSL a few years ago & they are definitely too heavy. I’m thinking about having the agates reset in something completely different, like cuffs, as they are wasted at the moment

  • These will look lovely with a white shirt and jeans!

  • They remind me of Frida. The bigger and more colorful the better.

  • La photo est superbe.

    Laëti

  • These don’t look like they’d be as heavy as their size suggests. They’re mostly pompoms, plastic tassels (or maybe raffia?), hollow beads, light filigree, and flat light coins, held by what look like good-quality clips. Those materials are all very lightweight. I would wear them in a second. I’m sure the price tag would be too hefty for me, though!

  • Anika Zebron August, 9 2013, 2:45 / Reply

These seem so obscenely huge but at the same time, insanely fun! Maybe if they were transformed into another type of accessory? Love the colors and frills.

  • Ah, true, they’re gorgeous. But too long is when they start pulling your earlobes to the floor and giving you a headache (which I get just looking at them). I often wonder why designers waste their time making fashions that aren’t even functional? I’d totally wear them as a necklace though!!

  • That earrings are soooooo nice. Looks perfect and I would like to have them. xaxa.

  • if you don’t mind ear lobes down to your shoulders,….then ok…

  • I love big statement earrings but they shouldn’t hurt or be uncomfortable to wear and I think those prob are! A shame in that case, cause they are absolutely gorgeous!

  • I like dramatic Indian style earrings, large hoops, large wooden/horn ones as well. These? Not so much. they look heavy which is uncomfortable and also there’s too much going on for me

  • DOMINIQUE August, 9 2013, 4:41 / Reply

  • They certainly look gorgeous but they would be too heavy for my ears. It would hurt and probably infect them. I pass this trend, not for me. xx

  • GUAUUUUU!!!!

  • talvez a questao nao seja o tamanho, mas o peso!

  • Sureeeeeeee, wear them naked with roller blades. But wait, they look almost Mexican, be bold! Lay it on!

  • at least i would like to collect them :), love accessories…

  • Wow, amazing! But I think I couldn’t wear too heavy earrings…

    http://www.mode9.fr

  • I’ll go for big as long as it’s light as a feather :)

  • For me it is the perfect size for summer look!

  • I never wear earrings. I love them, but they would hurt my ears…

    http://www.skinobsession.blogspot.com

  • These are “sitting pretty” earrings. You can’t do much else or you’ll get hurt, haha.

  • I agree, they are amazing. Are they heavy? One must sometimes sacrifice for fashion. Dolce and Gabbana are beyond talented.

  • I love statement jewelry and these are for sure loud..For daily life – too heavy for sure to be able to wear them long time. Perfect for photo shoot..They also might be too ‘noisy’ to just walk around.

  • As long as it’s not weighing down your earlobes into a buddha shape or enlarging the hole, it’s not too heavy. :)

    https://newbornfanatic.wordpress.com/

  • I have no problem with Big Earings unless they’re heavy. Big and lightweight? No problemo. But I do not want something dragging my lobes down past my shoulders… I’m not going down that road

  • I love big statement jewelry and I think these beauties are worth the pain (ok, only for one hour :) xo Hanneke

  • I love these! and how a lot of the big-name designers are now experimenting with ethnic looks this season.

  • I have an enormous pair of earrings by a Los Angeles jewelry designer and I adore them. They are clips, as are the D&G earrings in the photo, so they don’t stretch my earlobes at all. Having said that, they are heavy to wear, and over time become uncomfortable, so I wear them for short periods of time, parties, special events, etc., definitely NOT all-day venues!
