Mastering the art of layering is no easy task, my bag ladyness can attest to that.
It’s all about the proportions, the combination and in the end what’s going to keep you warm (and what you’re going to be able to take off when you need to cool down, say back at your desk or when you find yourself going to a chic lunch in the middle of a blizzard… Or for us these next two weeks: battling the elements during fashion week. )

Le layering, c’est un peu notre meilleur et pire ennemi en fait. Autant quand c’est réussi, on se sent digne d’être prise en photo dans un magazine (ou par Scott ^^). Mais, le problème c’est que je me retrouve souvent avec trop de couches et j’arrive en mode glaçon qui a fondu (j’essayais de trouver une image pas trop deg) à mes cours. Après faut prévoir le sac pour fourrer les couches en trop qui nous encombre. Puis là moi, j’habite en Angleterre depuis Septembre dernier et je me fichais de la gueule de tout le monde qui me disait que le temps allait être pourri. Et bien il a été plutôt bon jusqu’à janvier et maintenant c’est le déluge de pluie. Ca a rien à voir avec la pluie de Paris, c’est vraiment la douche en sortant. Donc moi en plus faut que je pense à ça. (please venez on parle pas de la mochitude des k-way) Quelqu’un connait une bonne marque pour des bottes de pluies ? #help Les Hunter, ça fait pas trop cliché ? Pourquoi pas des bottines de pluie, c’est plus original ?
Sinon, je suis quasiment certaine que ton combo c’est le #2. Premièrement, c’est un peu tes marques chouchou (Derek Lam, Stella, Proenza Schouler *j’adoooore*). Ensuite, j’ai reconnu ta veste motif pied-de-poule que tu avais montré dans un PMF. Après je t’ai souvent vus ur des photos avec une chemise/veste en jean. Puis, le manteau est trop canon donc ça ne peut être que le look de Garance. Bon si je me trompe, j’aurais pas l’air bête, mais on me dit que je suis très observatrice.
Personnellement, je me verrais trop porter le dernier look. **

J’habite également en Angleterre et ai trouvé de super bottines de pluie chez Office, imitation bottines de mec, rock, elles sont super et tiennent bien tes pieds au sec sous les trombes d’eau anglaises

Merci d’avoir répondu à mon commentaire. Ca fait plaisir de voir que je suis pas la seule française à galérer sous la pluie anglaise. En plus, il y a une tempête en ce moment donc avec le vent, c’est juste pas possible de sortir de chez soi. Han j’adore les bottines de pluies que tu as décrite, c’est totalement mon style. J’avais déjà entendu parler d’Office, mais je n’ai jamais jeté un coup d’oeil, ce que je vais faire dès ce weekend. Encore merci pour ce bon conseil. :-)

Anyway, layering to me is a tricky and dangerous business, so easy to end up like a scarecrow instead of a chic lady! I admire those who manage to achieve the chic effect, à la Kenzo in the beginning of noughties!

Wow, that layering is a lot more stylish than mine. I currently have a t-shirt (it gets SO HOT in the office), a flannel shirt, and a black cardigan that has become my barrier against all the feathers that leak out of my puffer coat (sadly I chose a black one to begin with…it will never be the same again…). I should try something more like this. ;)

I love layering! But I don’t think I’m that sophisticated (yet unconventional) about it as the ladies you posted!
I love the unexpected layers, like denim or leather in between/on bottom, because I automatically put those as an outer layer. So silly actually, cause this looks great. I especially adore the second and third look. And I think the second is yours! Because of the colour combination mostly.
J’ai vraiment du mal avec les couches… Comme tu le dis si bien, c’est tout un art qu’il faut arriver à maîtriser si on ne veut pas ressembler à la fille qui a voulu mettre ses plus belles pièces toutes ensemble le même jour tellement elle est fière. Et puis perso, je me sens toujours bloquée dans mes mouvements si j’ose mettre une chemise + un gros cardi + un manteau. Horrible !
Bref, tout ca pour dire que je ne suis pas fan mais que je mise tout sur la troisième photo (perf’ noir en cuir+ manteau rouge et bleu) pour toi.
Et zut! Au vu de tous les com’, je me suis bien plantée avec mon 3ème look… Garance, tu causeras ma perte!

I can’t master this layering thing myself – okay, it goes nicely when doing it with tops and cardigans and chunky sweaters, but when we come to jackets and coats and parcas…??
How on earth do you ladies do it? If I just try to fit a tailored blazer underneath a jacket I already feel like I am not able to move my arms and I look as if I’ve gained 10 kilos…
How do you manage long sleeves on top of long sleeves (speaking of jackets etc. of course)?

Im ALWAYS cold, but almost never (unless its super fine summery clothes) can manage more than 2 layers. it just becomes to much! and I love this on other people (eg my sister who is very skinny and can put tons of layers on her). does it come down to the fact that when you have more high end clothes they are better tailored to fit? Like a tailor made coat on a jacket (seriously I am never able to put a coat on my jacket, its either one or the other…)?
Layering is something I struggle with a bit. I truly admire those who do it well and make it look effortless. These are all great looks.

I love subtle details like this, that finish off an outfit so beautifully. I always feel like men do it well, accessorizing with a tie or pocket square, or some patterned socks. I try to borrow ideas from dapper dressing when possible!

one less bag to the bag lady look
i commute with a big Tumi briefcase and a soft tumi holdall every day
so i find that any garments with big pockets is a blessing…i need pockets , as many as I can have , for wallet, cash, glasses , keys and smartphone
I no longer use a handbag , I keep it in the office
i sometimes commute with a gorgeous tooled leather backpack where I put my food, tea,supplements,tissues,extra glasses and so on
But big pockets will do it and replace a handbag anytime, even in the evening.
