I don’t know why but I just can’t seem to wear boots, even though I love them.
I always end up wearing low shoes, because I can’t dont like the way pants fall on a high top shoe. I guess what I like is to see the whole shoe, must be my problem. Oh, by the way, talking about weird clothing things, I’m not crazy about half-y heels. I like super high or extra flat. So usually, when I see a bootie, I have no emotion.
It doesn’t make it super easy finding everyday shoes.
All this to say, I think I found a perfect compromise the other day in Stockholm. These are Jil Sander, so I didn’t need to go all the way there to find them – but it was love at first sight. They’re blue, the leather is perfect and the back zip (which I obvioulsy leave opened, risking to lose a boot at every step, but you know I like to live dangerously), I love. Okay, these might not keep my feet warm in the winter, but it’s a good start, no ?

J’adore ! Elles ressemblent un peu les chaussures que j’ai acheté le week-end dernier, sauf que les miennes sont un peu moins glamour et je les porte zippées. (Sinon on les perd, non ??)

Pareil pour moi! Je porte soit des ballerines, soit des hauts talons de 8-10 cm mais jamais de micro talons de 2-3 cm. Je suis allergique!
Et je n’aime pas non plus que le pantalon cache la chaussure, c’est dommage!!!! De ne pas voir la chaussure entièrement!!!

(et c’est drôle, je ne porte que des boots, je fais justement un blocage sur les chaussures basses, je n’arrive jamais à aimer leur association avec un pantalon, je trouve ça tellement plus simple des chaussures montantes! comme quoi).

I have the exact same issue with wearing long pants over boots! The boot feels blocky and heavy when only the toe is peaking out—I’m worried they’ll look like an ugly shoe instead of a good boot. I could see cowboy boots as being an exception, but I’m not quite cowgirl enough to sport those. P.S. LOVE this blog, Garance!

I love booties because I’m short and tall boots are always the wrong height on me! That said these are awesome booties (come on their Jil Sander!) they don’t go under pants — but there are plenty of slightly heeled boots that do —
Women in NYC wear them all the time — I’m sure you’ll see some cool ones.

Booties are not easy and I salute (and envy!) anyone who figures out how to wear them. I see so many women who wear a cut that is just wrong for them, that visually cuts their legs at an awkward point and make the leg look short. For me, because my calves are short compared to my thighs (and skinny – so sad!), I have to wear a bootie with a bit of heel and that fits fairly close and just below my ankle. At least, I rationalize, I understand my limitations…

Moi je suis une boots addicts…pour tes pantalons, ils faut qu’ils soient courts, qu’ils arrivent juste au dessus du haut des boots;-) en fait il faut la bonne longueur, ni trop long, ni trop court…
I just went out shopping for “winter boots” (never anything too practical, of course) and ended up getting a pair that is somewhat similar at Zara (http://bit.ly/IdZs4A). They do, however, have a halfway hell – which don’t love, but is growing on me. Those Jil Sander boots are absolute perfection in every way. Thank you for sharing!
Finalement quelqu’un qui me comprend. Les petits talons. Je ne suis pas capable. Soit du plat, soit du haut mais pas de genre 3 cm. Non. Je trouve que je marche comme un canard. Je ne sais pas comment me placer… Genre, marcher comme avec des talons plats ou des talons hauts mais pas d’entre-deux. Merci. C’est vrai que ça complique parfois l’achat de souliers mais bon ! :)

My go to favorites for years have been the Prada red line. On my 4th pair!
They are wonderful, the fact, that they are blue makes the difference and the back sip of course! And I know exactly what you are talking of, the length of the pants and the shoes have to go together, that can be tricky ;-) xxx

Hi Garance! They are adorable!!! And the heel is not too high so you can walk comfortably in them. They look black in the picture! They remind me of a pair of purple booties in purple suede I bought in Paris by Arche, that matter of fact, I’ll have to pull out and wear this autumn!!!!

Je suis ta jumelle maléfique en matière de chaussures : je ne porte que des boots à petit talon. 10 paires. Noir, marron, bleu, daim, cuir verni, moumouté ou non, rondes, pointues.
Le petit talon de 4 cm : ça surélève et on peut cavaler.

Mais du coup tu fais quoi avec ton pantalon ? Rentré dedans ? Un ourlet vers l’intérieur ou vers l’extérieur ? A quelle hauteur ? Cheville apparente, ou bien quand même juste sur le haut de la bottine, avec le risque qu’il se fasse la malle juste au-dessus et fasse des plis ? (je sais pas si l’image est très clair)
They’re great – esp the back zip. Short boots are so good because they work on short or tall women (unlike to over the knee). Best short boots ever? Acne Pistol. Outsize zip, long swinging zip tie.. they’re perfect.

Ces boots sont superbes, fines, élégantes, avec ce zip et, surtout, marine, ce qui est rare… de dos seulement hélas ! En effet, vue de face, elles deviennent beaucoup plus communes. Dommage.
J’ai des bottines en cuir et vernis noir (2 peausseries donc) avec un zip à l’arrière, achetée il y a …20 ans ?!! Toujours belles.
And well I can’t help but gasp at the very high price point of these boots: 640€ which means much more in $.
I could not afford this for boots and would not anyway, despite them being beautiful from the back only I repeat.

Oui elles sont très belles, je les avais repérées ces boots… moi je suis fan des boots, je crois que c’est ce que je porte le plus. J’adore parce que ça déniaise pas mal de tenues, surtout les robes, qui font moins dadames que de simples chaussures et puis avec les pantalons, il suffit qu’ils soient 7/8 ou bien reboulés et ça le fait (et ça tient chaud surtout).

I am totally a bootie person, love them in almost all varieties. Actually, I had a pair similar to these Jil Sander’s, and I wore them until they fell apart. I still have them, just as a memory, or all-time-favourites, I will never throw them away. :))

I have the exact opposite problem. I hate buying super flat shoes so I compromise by getting them midway heel. Chunkier obviously. They’re so comfortable and I get a little height for my short self. My thinking…you must be tall Garance!! :)

I love booties. I don’t much like tall boots, but booties are perfect for winter when you don’t want skin to show. I also prefer shorter heels. I hate extra high heels, they look so awkward, but I don’t really like flats all the time. So the opposed of you.
