My preferred mode of relaxation during the summer is time spent at the beach – any other travel just feels out of place for the season. And unlike my yearly trips to hippy-come-modern Cape Cod, time spent in the Hamptons is marked by a certain level of sophistication. With her affinity for summering in Sag Harbor, Jessica Joffe knows exactly what I’m talking about.
For our recent time out East, we asked our friend and stylist Dianna to pull together a few quintessential summer looks that manage to look both easy and chic, with pieces from our partner, THE OUTNET (who, by the way, are offering same day shipping to the Hamptons through Labor Day).
We dressed Jessica up in said summer looks – not a far departure from her usual polished style – and let her show us around town. We stopped at some of her favorite places in Sag Harbor: a book store, the beach, a donut shop, and a fish shack that serves lobster and butter for you to enjoy…on the water…with your hands.

This story puts me in the mood for a vacation in a sleepy beach town. I think the short clips throughout are a charming touch. You should definitely add that feature to more posts in the future.
The Valentino cotton-polyester $1,100 romper (reduced from $3,800), as well as some of the other extremely expensive items, makes me wish that someday Garance or the Atelier would do a piece on clothes and money. I ask this respectfully because I know you take up a lot of issues of personal choice and needs. You treat them candidly and seriously, which I like. I recognize that many of the clothes and accessories you show are meant to be inspirational rather than merely aspirational, and I recognize too that you balance the crazy expensive stuff with more modestly priced things. And, finally, I do understand that most of the expensive things “justify” their price by their high quality. But how do women decide how much is an appropriate amount of money to spend on clothes and accessories? What all goes into the mix? Are some things just obscenely expensive? Etc. I bet you’d do a good job with the subject.
I couldn’t agree more. Your editorial is strong, and your curation of inspiring pieces is always on point, but the prices are simply out of reach for most people. The implicit message defaults to: in order to be chic, your wardrobe has to include pieces that cost more than your rent. It would be even more inspiring to see you put together editorial including thrifted/found/vintage/off-season pieces. This is where real style can shine.
