Pardon My French/How to Pack like a Stylist
12 years ago by
Here is an extract of a conversation I had with Elisa and Viviana, where Elisa explains to me how she packs. It sounds easy when you’re a pro !
In the next episode of Pardon My French, we’ll talk about their careers as stylists and what becoming street style darlings has changed for them… Stay tuned !

I really admire stylists, because it is one skill that I’m definitely lacking! I’m rubbish at planning looks, and when I do photoshoots for my store, it’s always a bit improvised…God I need a stylist! Elisa is so cool, her look is very thought-through but still very fresh.

And the shoes? I always have problems packign them…
Ok, I misheard the vide, she said shoes and bags, lol!! Problem solved :)
I love fashion stylist specially elisa nallin i took many photos of her in Paris http://www.ohmydior.org/2012/10/paris-fashion-week-street-style-spring.html
Wish it would be so easy every day. It is amazing how great Elisa is wearing jewelery and that it is so much without looking like it. Great style. Madrid Street Style http://madrilicious.com
So nice post like always. Stylist could be great job.

Don’t forget to check my new blog post at http://www.19rivoli.com
Garance, you tease! I CAN’T wait for the full feature. I love them both and each are different: Elisa – adventurous and bold, mixing patterns/colours upon patterns/colours and V.V. my fav! Classic, sexy and a great mixer of textures. Finally a voice for these ladies – thank you Garance.
I can`t wait for the next video! My biggest dream is to become a stylist and hearing about their carrers paths is really something i`m looking forward! Love your short films Garance! Thank you! xx
Love it…you all look fab!

A couple of days a go I saw an instagram picture of all of Bryanboy’s fashion week suitcases. There were around 8. But it is so unnecessary ! When traveling I pick a few stand out pieces for each day and then a couple of basics that I can mix with those crazy pieces. It makes it so much easier.
Why am I not surprised! LOL Bryanboy doesn’t seem to be the type to think this methodically… he’s a total diva.

I have so much admiration for stylists. It’s something that really requires vision and creativity.

I need to follow Elisa’s advice. I spent so much $$ at three airports this past trip for one very very overweight beastly heifer of a bag. Everyone, from ticket agents, to taxi drivers, to hotel door men were horrified (and broke backs) when they tried to lift it. I would say: “It’s really heavy.” They would say, all manly: “no big deal”. And then when they tried to lift the suitcase, it wouldn’t move . . . I just don’t know how to pack well. I always think I need more than I do! And then god forbid you are traveling by train and you have to lug a suitcase the size of a large dude up the narrow little stairs to get on the train . . . never again!
Oh I totally agree, the lugging and sheepish smiles for porters and drivers..for me it has been a learning process brought on by determination to do better each trip. Baby steps. I think it has as much to do with pre-packing as packing, and I never bring anything but sample size or travel size toiletries.
Even women as accomplished as these three were not born great packers, we all learn from experience and each other.
I like your video story. it is very informative/
Hugs from Ukraine!!

Love it!!

Wow! Oh, I wish so much that I was like this. I try to do exactly that, and then I throw in 5 more things “just in case” at the last minute and the suitcase won’t close. How long does it take Elisa to pick those outfits? I bet she’s fast at making those decisions and I bet she doesn’t worry about the weather changing. This is a good personal goal, to be this organized and sure of my choices.
when I travel I do the same, I plan all my outfits, but it’s not that easy to fit in a normal suitcase, if I choose different shoes and bags to each outfit… :)
can’t wait to see the rest of the conversation! you all look so stylish and effortlessly cool.
Love Elisa, love her clean, like grabbed together
style. But she actually thinks so good about all her
outfits!
Great video again!
Always love watching them!

She makes it sound so easy! I shall do my utmost best to follow her advise. I don’t hold out much hope though, I ALWAYS overpack. A x

like like like :))))

Planning always helps. So I don’t have to carry tons of suitcases. Always pack the basics, ones that you can play different combinations with, and 3 or 4 killer outfits.. for just in case. http://www.chasingruins.com/

So much easier than done but good packing skills are admirable!

good advice for packing easy. thank you
Quelle couple!
I can’t wait for the next episode!!!!!!! Please do more interviews of stylists and editors <3 !!!
I really like Elisa! She’s very sweet!
Really beautiful !!
I loved the video <3
I'm posting accessories from Los Angeles on my blog!
Take a look!

my way to pack!
Dit comme ça…
Yeah!!! This was one of my PMF suggestions way before NYFW. So glad you did this video! Plus Elisa and Viviana are two of my favorites! I love that Yellow necklace ;)
I have a small wardrobe so I am forced to do smart packing, therefor, versatile pieces that can work with different outfits is what I put in my luggage. I would love to hear what Viviana Volpicella say about her packing rules. She is one of my favorite editors ever.
Thanks so much Garance for this video, your blog is a great contribution to the fashion wold.
Xoxo

Garance, elles sont superbes tes chaussures. Mais d’ou elles sortent?? Magnifique! xx
maybe next fashion week she can show us her packed bag…
Aaahh, j’adorerais t’entendre parler corsico-italien avec elles ! :D
This is wonderful. “I’m very organised” I wish I could be like her. But it is true, one has to plan the outfits. And what if the weather changes?
What about beauty products? Oh, I will never learn how to pack like Elisa.
La suiiite!
I wonder how big that suitcase is, and would she really stay under 25 kilo’s…? Wow! I have no problem travelling with just one suitcase, but I don’t attend fashion week :)
Triste monde.
Très belle journée!
Lionel,

thanks for sharing your wonderful moments..
Elisa!!! Yey !!! :)
‘PROHIBIDO FUMAR’ that’s portuguese!
What about beauty products ???
I am a stylist and I do my suitcases exactly the same way :) Actually I started with the suitcases and that helped me with the shoots :)

Me and packing?
What definitely a chapter of it´s own. Haha!

I would be able to do the same!!
Can’t wait to see the rest of the conversation!
I wish we could see photos or a video of her packing! This begs for a follow-up — WE LOVE YOUR FRIENDS.
Lovely as always..but where is that room? Simply gorgeous..is it someone’s house or a cafe? Love it ;)
I really love your style!!!

I really like this video because it is just a snippet of conversation but says it all. No set up, titles or fancy intro needed. Quick to watch and to the point. Totally cool!
Hi! Such a good subject to talk about!
I am trabelling on work tomorrow for a month and i would really need some advise..
I am going to europe and china, and also buenos aires. So all the different climates plus i have to look nice.. Any suggestions?
Thanks garance! I love your sweet and personal approach to fashion, it’s so refreshing. And i really admire your illustrations.
xx.
G. thank you for sharing Elisa’s great formula with us ordinary mortals :) I am only wondering where does she pack her cosmetics? I always end up with carrying more cosmetics than my bags or shoes :(
cant wait for the next video!! U’re an amazing woman Garance and i love ur positive attitude !!!
HA! I wish it was that easy for me! When I went on a 6-days vacation with my boyfriend, I took a suitcase and he only took a small bag… Men! How do they do it?
I love that Elisa says she only travels with one and then Viviana chimes in with but it’s a big one. I shall have to put Elisa’s method into practice.
I love the incredulity “How many bags? One!”
I could not agree more – multiple bags are too much of a hassle. I don’t check bags either – too many bad experiences. I’ll be expanding on this on my blog also!
http://performanceandcocktails.com/2012/11/22/one-bag-policy/
I am proud of myself. Just packing for a week in sorrento. This is my wardrobe-
Wear to travel – cropped ankle skimming v dark navy/black trousers , same colour blazer (jersey type fabric), chambray top. Black gladiator shoes.
Take – black cut out a line skirt, cream cropped cotton Capri trousers, cream lace shell top, black frilly top, black wide sheer evening trousers, big white shirt for beach, bikini, thin tan belt, tan thong sandals , ballet flats, stone cotton wrap and one bright printed sarong. All rolled into hand luggage.
I feel smug
Might squeeze in really light dres if i can manage – will wear all jewellery ! Maybe I could wear the wrap to travel in too?…..tip – the more you wear the less you have to pack ..
