I’m following courses to become an Asthanga Yoga Teacher and sometimes I just can’t find the spirit for my every day practice. Then I always go stand in front of the mirror and point at my reflection:
‘You are going to workout, don’t care what you say! You don’t want an elephant butt, so no complaining!’
Really works if you think of a huge butt in yoga pants. Looks awfull!

honestly, i’ve never been able to motivate myself into anything that implies going against my nature. (my essence is that of a coach potato). why building up an extra activity into your regular plan? optimizing what you always do should be enough, my dear. jogging and fitness studio-ing is boring, calvinistic, self-disciplining, religious (you my know already, i am a pure mediterranean-kind)..is my post motivating enough?
and if i sound too pedantic with this, let me tell you something, Garance: your blog motivates me!

je suis étonnée que tant de personnes se forcent à faire des choses qu’elles ne feraient pas a priori. J’essaie justement d’arrêter d’entretenir ce rapport à moi-même: me forcer, me flageller, me comparer etc.
Moi quand je me force, ça finit toujours mal, le déplaisir augmente d’une manière ou d’une autre.
J’essaie d’écouter mes envies, mon corps, le fait qu’il peut avoir envie d’une chose un jour ou deux, puis d’autre chose les jours suivant.
Quand je me force à faire les choses par ce que j’adhère à l’idée ou la croyance qu’elles sont “bonnes pour moi”, je finis toujours par faire ces choses non pas pour la chose en soi et le plaisir qu’elle peut procurer éventuellement, mais pour éviter de me culpabiliser de ne pas l’avoir faite, et donc de me flageller. Et je n’ai plus envie de faire les choses sous la menace de la l’auto culpabilisation et de l’auto flagellation, mais plutôt sous l’impulsion du désir et de l’envie qui, par nature, sont fluctuants et impermanents.

J’ai l’impression que le risque que tu pourrais percevoir la dedans, c’est que l’impulsion du désir te conduit seulement vers des choses que tu juges “pas bonnes pour toi”?

moi ma motivation je la trouve dans le ménage: je fais le ménage (crevant) et je vais courir après; ou alors je vais courir d’abord et je fais le ménage après (en fait, simple question de concurrence entre deux trucs pour lesquels il faut que je trouve la motivation; et comme je suis tjs plus motivée qd même pour aller courir que pour faire le ménage, ça fait vases communicants!!)

Exercising should become a routine. That’s the only way it can work, for me at least.
I, for example, spend aprox. 40 min. daily doing all sorts of training exercises that I have found online.
And I always think that they must be done daily, no matter what – it’s like brushing your teeth.. or else.. I quickly start to asimilate some extra pounds, and I do not want that :)

Haha, those are really good!! Actually for classes my gym really helps me, since we have to book course places in advance online. When you book you don’t have all those distracting ideas on your mind, and when it’s time to leave for class, you don’t think about all those “really important” things you might have to do instead of going, since you already booked it = more serious than just thinking about going. Only going to do the crosstrainer/weight machines or doing online pilates videos (unfortunately no yoga/pilates classes in gym) needs some stronger enforcement, I’m working on it ;). And yes,as one of the comments suggested, just few days ago I thought about adding a photo of Karmen Pedaru in a swimsuit to my board…
