Szandra Sandor’s Budapest
7 years ago by
It’s not your standard vacation destination but it’s a beautiful place to know and love. Szandra Sandor, the designer behind Nanushka, takes us around her hometown of Budapest!
Favorite thing about living in Budapest:
Being able to choose from as many amazing natural thermal baths as this city can offer!
Favorite place to eat:
–Beszallo Goodbar: Asian inspired Hungarian streetfood from the badass chef Krisztian Huszar, their Vietnamese goulash is a must have –
–Wang Fu: Budapest best kept secret, authentic, best hot pot place in town!
–Szimply: This tiny breakfast spot has a special place in my heart as it was my mother’s first childrenswear shop back in the 90’s. If you are lucky enough to get a table here, try their famous ‘eat the rainbow’ dish.
Best souvenir someone could bring back:
A bottle of Furmint from Tokaj. Furmint is a special grape variety that only exists in the North-Eastern part of Hungary. The wine made of it has a special character, bone-dry, balanced, mineral, a real world class treat.
Best place for a cocktail:
Boutique bar, the only speakeasy one in Budapest. Expats and well-informed travellers mingle here with the locals. A cocktail connoisseur hangout, don’t ask for the menu rather ask for something dry with gin.
Most unexpected thing about the city:
The charisma of Budapest strongly characterised by the coexistence of the metropolitan elegance of the ‘Belle Époque’ and brutality of the socialist architecture. Buda and Pest, East and West these dichotomies embody the real nature of our capital.
Budapest is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. I went there with my friends for the weekend and we the best time. One of the most memorable moments there was when we went to the old thermal baths (a must do in Budapest!). xo

My city! :) So nice to read about it on the blog! Don’t miss the Bartók Béla Street and that area, it developed so nice in the last few years, lot of galleries and art cafés. Also, I would recommend to check another Hungarian designers, there are a lot fresh talents just like Nanushka (Tomcsányi, Nubu, The Four…).
