Summer’s Simple Joys
5 years ago by
I’m realizing that my appreciation for life’s simple joys becomes heightened in the summertime. Give me a lounge chair outside and a good book and I’m set for an entire weekend.
This past weekend I was visiting my family back home in Ohio. Upon returning to NYC, my co-workers asked me what I did at home. The honest answer? A bunch of simple, little things that made me feel infinitely joyful.
A hike with my mom and my brother. We crossed a sun-drenched stream and saw forest for miles.
Loads of fresh watermelon and peaches.
A baseball game with my dad. We ate hot dogs and drank beers and cheered from the stands.
Swimming in the pool.
A long drive with a friend, John Prine on the radio.
What is it about summer that allows us to tap into our simplest, most child-like sources of fun? I’m not completely positive, but I’m soaking it up while it lasts. What are your favorite summer pleasures?
Perfection! I can feel and smell the summer air. Ohio is amazing in the summer.
I completely agree with you. Watermelon is the best. I had a picnic with my friends where we gorged on watermelon.
Maybe it is just summer magic. I do feel the same way about summer. It makes the simple pleasures of live seem endless and magical.
