Resort? Pre-spring? Cruise? Summer?

No matter how designers choose to name this interim collection, I think it’s my favorite.
That idea of vacation might be reason numero uno! But also I love that, in what have become seasonless seasons, you can wear both a full length fur and a pair of barely there shorts. Which, much like Neada, I too love a good pair of shorts (or something that seems like shorts….)
Okay – so here’s my question: how short is too short to be considered, well, appropriate clothing? When it comes to minis and shorts, I’ve been known to wear some that walk the fine line of a “tunic” or “briefs” or a “belt”…. JUST KIDDING on the belt-as-skirt. I’m not Jane Birkin, I have limits, and boldly showing my underpants is one of them. BUT, here’s what I noticed – they are all wearing boots with their microscopic bottoms – BOOTS! Does that cancel out the fact that your gams are the main attraction? Are those actually swimsuits and I’m delusional?
Maybe it goes back to the whole discussion of sheer, and wearing something over all these looks in real life. Nonetheless it has me wondering, in our quest to be this nonchalantly-classically-cool woman in every season, are we losing our spunk to take risks??
Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, MM6.
Louis always absolutely kills it! Love the pinstripes and the boots for DIOR. I think women are just more comfortable in more clothing!
Warm Regards,

Love the boots. I don’t think I’d rock microscopic bottoms simply because I don’t want my butt out there for people to stare at. Haha. :]
// ? itsCarmen.com ?
love those boots

I predict they would have a collection every month in a few years. And they could have a permanent home for fashion week and it would be in use year round.
rampant creation and consumption traits !
I love to mix. And I love shorts, summer and winter. In winter a black pantalone-like one, with long or ankle boots, stockings, legwarmers dropt down to the ankle (with the ankle boots), sheer blouse (with or without lace) or a turtle neck jumper or sweater and even with a classic jacket (and white smoking shirt, like wearing a suite…smashing!!!). Gives me a happy hippy sixties feeling in a chique way. Finally we can by some classic ones. I love being chique with shorts. And my man loves it even more!!! He loves my Barbie legs… But I don’t like to walk around with the cheeks of my bootie half naked. I don’t like to see that on the street neither. On the beach when your very very young…nah…maybe…sometimes. I like my shorts a bit longer (and with stockings, summer ones – sun touched – if it’s not too hot). Makes me feel more secure and I think it’s a bit more sophisticated. And being 53 (even though everybody says I got the most beautiful legs) it’s not so cool to walk half naked (that is my feeling too). It’s amazing how much you can do with shorts. Last weekend I bought a sort of jeans with the same blouse…happy again!!! But without shorts I’m happy too of course, with shorts just a bit more (clothing)fun.
I agree with you Brie, wanting being Jane Birkin isn’t enough to actually be her, and it’s no easy thing to look dressed with (almost) nothing on you
I saw a very young and beautiful girl in Spain a few weeks ago, wearing one of those shorts with boots. We were in a city but near the beach (Barcelona), so you’re allowed to dress more freely I guess. I don’t know, I wasn’t convinced. It looked too much as if she wasn’t really and completely dressed
True! That is the constant fear “Does it look like I forgot a layer before I left the house?!” haha
Great boots there

Gods yes – it’s difficult to feel like you can get away with short shorts in NYC, and I admit I’m cautious about wearing them in the city even though I own quite a few pair. I actually prefer myself when I show off a bit of leg, but there’s still this idea of propriety…as in, it’s anti-luxury at the moment to feel as if you are “trying too hard,” and you’re always more aware of yourself when you are forced to walk down the street in front of a million people every day. Anyway, my favorites are a black, high-waisted crepe-type pair, and I usually wear them with cashmeres unless it’s a super-hot cesspit day: then, all bets are off and I wear them with cropped black or white tanks. xx
I think it looks good. But then I have always worn shorts with boots on somewhat warm days. Jean shorts and Doc martins used to be my go to outfit. I wouldn’t wear that now, but I still think boots go well with short shorts.
OOPS..Ha, I’m wearing shorts and chelsea style ankle boots right now. I had no idea it was controversial.
