Making Art Dance

It’s ballet season!
To kick it off, Mana Contemporary is celebrating the woman who first fused classical ballet with rock music in the 1980s: American choreographer Karole Armitage.
Curated by none other than Jeffrey Deitch, the exhibit features artist collaborations with Armitage over the past 35 years with visionaries like Jean Paul Gaultier, Jeff Koons, and Christian Lacroix, just to name a few. It’s hard to not be inspired by her rebellious ballerina aesthetic, with the all of the stripes and boldly eccentric costumes.
Making Art Dance, on view January 11th – March 13th at Mana Contemporary.
Thanks a lot for that link. Seems to be a very interesting project. I’m slightly sorry not being able to see it live on stage. Would be a dream to see a studio’s story about it. :)
Beautiful!

merci pour la découverte :) !
I’d be queuing up to buy the ticket if I was in NY! I love ballet and have trained for years (not professionally) in a Russian London ballet school (formerly Manor Studios) with wonderful teachers Brigitta and the school founder Evgeny Goremykin (of Bolshoi Theater). Ballet is such a wonderful thing to start for an amateur, it combines fitness with music and art, and you live classes tired but in wonderful mood!
