The Costume Party

The dreaded costume party…
As a far off idea, somewhere in the distant future, they always seem so fun. Months in advance I have a million brilliant ideas of what to dress up as! Then, suddenly, it’s the day of the party and I’m totally costume-less.
It happens to me every year at Halloween (which is an incredibly important holiday in America when everyone dresses up as a. something witty, b. something scary, c. something sexy, d. a cat).
Every year, a few hours before I’m meant to meet my friends, I end up frantically hot-glueing something I dug out of a craft drawer to something even worse I found at a thrift shop, hoping that I’ll have figured out what the costume is by the time I’ve made it. I know this is a common problem (among my friends at least), but I always wonder about those few people who are actually able to pull together the brilliant costumes I had thought of months before…
In the spirit of upcoming Halloween parties, we wanted to share this Vanity Code video about picking the perfect (or least awful) costume:
What is your costume of choice? And more importantly, what should I dress up as for Halloween?

i’m afraid of halloween… :)

I just went halloween costume shopping and I’m gonna be a crayon! You the crayola ? It was the less slutty thing I could find… :)
Great video!

Stick some mini cereal boxes on the back of a great tshirt with double tape. Then stab some knife un the boxes, that’s it!! You are a cereal killer (serial killer);)
hahahaha jay, next year! :)
I dressed up as Carrie.
It was a hassle thinking of a Halloween costume! Ugh!

Coucou Garance.
A bientôt Garance.

I hate hate hate spending money on a costume. It just seems so silly! (I did buy a vintage cheerleader uniform at a thrift store earlier this month though, so I am a little contradictory).
But this year, I’m going to go as a skeleton. I saw some great (and sexy and classy) face paints- a la Lady Gaga’s Born This Way skeleton look- and I’m planning on doing that with a classic LBD. I’m so excited! Maybe if I go out twice I’l be a skeleton cheerleader..? Who knows!
Wear a big fur coat, some tights and flats and you can be any of the Pevensie siblings from The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe – add a box of Turkish delight to be Edmond, a sword to be Peter, a flower tucked behind an ear to be Susan or a teacup to be Lucy! Snow in your hair is extra credit :)
Idea for a costume: Frida Kahlo (it is easy and glam)
Go as Baby Jane Hudson, baby doll dress, bad makeup, ringlets. Bette Davis looked frightening in that role.
I used to have that issue as well! Now I just dress up as a pop culture character using what’s in my closet. I can’t decide between my Amy Pond costume or the inspired Katniss one though.
Arielle from Tangled Musings
Last year I dressed up as a sick cat. I even wore the huge plastic collar that a vet gives an animal to keep it from scratching. A huge bandaid, bandaged paw, tire tracks on my back and a black eye made me the antithesis of all the sexy/slutty cat costumes.
Hilarious!

This video is on point!
This video is hilarious! :D
J’aime pas les déguisements.
Funny video!
I liked the Slutty Rachel Maddow idea…I vote for that one!
One of the easiest costumes to make –take an oversized old pair of jeans, sew patches and use rope for a belt–old flannel top sew patches on this –then burlap and rope for the neck area–an old garden hat –look at photos of the 1930’s film Wizard of OZ–the scarecrow–I made this years ago –works–I still have the jeans and flannel shirt somewhere in costume land!!
Rosie the Riveter. Great retro makeup. Easy. Comfortable.
