Happy Birthday Edith Head
11 years ago by
“If it is a Paramount film, I probably designed it.”
As I open my laptop this morning to see what’s the latest, I notice that the Google Doodle is different… There are six willowy figures and one very distinct woman with round specs. Cue Edith Head.
If you have ever wanted to channel Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday, Elizabeth Taylor in A Place in the Sun or dress up as a Pan Am stewardess, you have Edith Head to thank.
Though Head had no formal training, she is legendary for her incredible costume sketches at Paramount Pictures that ultimately earned her a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Head dressed the greatest stars in Hollywood, received 35 Academy Award nominations, and won 8 Oscars!
So to celebrate what would be her 116th birthday, here are some of our favorite sketches of hers!
she deserves our attention! :)

(If I’m not mistaken.)
Same same pour Google Canada!
I was so excited to see this today!

When passion and talent triumph over training. Clap, clap, clap! :)

She won 8 Oscars, two in the same year (1951) for “All about Eve” and “Samson and Delilah”. As a person who really like cinema and costumes, I’ve always considered an incredibly talented and tasteful woman.
Wasn’t it Givenchy who designed that Breakfast at Tiffany’s Dress?
Yep, such a legendary costume designer, I so liked the nice idea of the Google Doodle for her.
Edith Head was a great designer, nevertheless fabulous black dress Audrey Hepburn wore in Breakfast at Tiffany’s and major part of her outfits in Sabrina for which Edith Head received one of her Oscars were designed by Hubert de Givenchy.
Happy Birthday!
Such beautiful sketches!

Givenchy designed some of Edith’s clothes for Hepburn

I love illustrations maybe even more than photographies, and – as everything else – I love them a lot more when they have such a rich story behind them!
