Ariane is the type of lady I could spend all day with, laying low on the couch, having a casual snack and glass of wine with (ok, maybe a few glasses of wine). She has such a nurturing presence and welcomed us into her home with, quite literally, open arms. She is a hugger, I am a hugger, we just get each other. I also just love anyone who is humble enough to showcase their children’s imaginative drawings all over their front door. It’s the perfect “hello, my house is a home, we have fun here” kind of welcoming. We’ve talked about it before, but it’s no surprise that Ariane is the leading lady of the brand based on motherhood, Hatch. She understands women and what they need pre, post, and every other moment in between hatching their littles. Needless to say, she’s a woman I am proud to support and know. Meet Ariane!

Describe your style in 3 words.
Easy, Hi-Lo, Eclectic.

What’s most important when it comes to style: comfort, beauty, or innovation?
Comfort allows a woman to be beautiful in her own skin, with her own agenda. I always find when people are trying too hard or wearing heels that are too high and uncomfortable, it shows through so quickly and the intention to look good is overpowered by the vision of discomfort!

Most valued thing in your closet?
My Nana’s vintage Hermes Birkin. It’s black leather and cracked and perfectly beaten up. It’s the best way to cut the fanciness of the Hermes bag, plus it tells the stories and journeys that it’s taken around New York.

Do you have a fashion muse?
I’m a caftan lover and appreciate oversized one-stop-shop chic dressing. Angelica Houston in the 70s, Biba, Halston… I can go on and on. The 70s reflects an era that inspired much of the early collections for HATCH. Diane Von Furstenberg through the years – still so chic and effortless. With regard to a designer icon I admire tremendously, Eileen Fisher has been a true role model for me on my journey. She’s built a brand based on what women want and evolved the concept from something so simple into something so much more meaningful. What amazes me about Eileen is that her culture and ethics are at the forefront of what she puts out in the world. Style is so much more than clothes… it’s a way of being.

Are there things you don’t wear?
I don’t wear socks and shorts and I don’t wear tight pieces, preferring things to drape away from my body. I also don’t wear white tights.

Can you tell us how Hatch came to be and how you envision it to grow?
I was newly pregnant in 2010 and frustrated by the lack of stylish clothing options in the maternity market. Following the birth of my daughter Charlie, I launched HATCH to serve as a trusted resource for women who want to feel beauty, confidence, and style during one of life’s most rewarding (yet also most challenging) periods. When I was pregnant there was no one speaking to me, so I wanted to start the conversation.

Today, the conversation is so much bigger. We’ve built a community of women who not only want to invest in pieces for themselves, but ask questions, meet each other, and learn about products that are good for them and that can nourish them in this moment. In order to continue to feed our passions and our babies, we need to take care of our bodies, holistically and intentionally. This gave me the inspiration for HATCH Mama – an edited line of non-toxic beauty products which were made to address the issues so many of us face during pregnancy and postpartum. They are completely safe and made from the best plant-based ingredients out there.

This past October, we opened our first retail location in NYC which was a true labor of love. Overall, my vision is to make sure HATCH reaches as many women as possible, whether that be online or through physical retail locations. Of course, we’ll always continue to expand the conversation and derive products based on women’s needs.

As a mother of two beautiful girls and the founder of a fast-growing brand, how do you maintain your personal style amongst the chaos? Are there pieces you once loved that you’ve had to get rid of and trade for more practical options?
Oh, do I miss my scarves that I’d wrap as a top. I’d run around the city nearly naked in my heyday. The days of feeling sexy and showing skin have quickly faded to feeling sexy by simply getting some sleep!! As I’ve developed and my girls mature, I’m more comfortable in my skin – which is where I’m most at ease, then it’s about grabbing what’s in my drawer and making it work. It’s from inside out that my style has evolved (however I’m starting to mourn the passing of my triangle-bikini wearing days).

You have a strong sense of self and that is apparent in your wardrobe. What advice would you want to pass on to your daughters and other women who are developing their own unique style?
Try different things.. see what works and feels natural – that’s when beauty kicks in. I firmly believe that trying to be something you’re not, wearing something that doesn’t fit right, or spending money on luxury brands that mean nothing to you does nothing. Feel good in your skin and OWN IT, MAMA!!
