Spring In The City

Today is Memorial Day in the US. The whole team took the day off and the city is asleep, which is so rare it’s very interesting. Everyone left for a long weekend, but I felt like staying and enjoying the city.
Walking in the quiet streets like Saada in the picture. Or going to take a dive in one of the city’s swimming pools, because it is finally beautifully sunny out!
But wait, let’s talk about fashion for two minutes, cause fashion never sleeps it seems, do you guys see what I see? A jacket tied around the waist? Long time no see, right? What do you think?

Ma veste en jeans je la porte autour de la taille, mais à l’envers… fermé à la taille, oui j’ai les manches qui pendent. Pour mes autres vestes c’est en “fagot” sur l’épaule. Les pulls c’est en bandoulière.
Cette veste autour de la taille me fait sourire, je me rappelle de l’époque où tout le monde le faisait! C’était dingue! Au lycée et à la fac certaines filles faisaient pour cacher leurs formes (bon quand à savoir si c’était efficace hein…). Et puis c’est devenu LA chose à ne pas faire!! J’arrive pas à croire que ça revient à la mode ahah! :)
Moi, perso je vais éviter, je suis trop cambrée, j’aime pas trop l’effet que ça donne :)

The shirt tied around the waist brings back such memories…From 17 to 25 I almost always wore a plaid or denim one.
I like when it’s done with “nochalance”. As such, no one over 25 should do it unless they travelling and need to take off layers during the day.
At 35 walking out of the house in the morning like that is a bit ridiculous. Just trying to hard.

Thought I couldn’t go back to the 90s, when I used to tie my jacket around my waist, until I recently remembered why I love doing so: it’s just so practical! I didn’t want to carry my slippery bomber jacket around, and tied it across my body, freed up my hands and the embroidery looked beautiful! ;)

Est ce que l´on peut vraiment parler de mode quand on parle de chemise ou veste accrochée autour de la taille? Parceque alors cette mode n´as jamais disparu chez les gens “normaux”. C´est juste une facon pratique de porter ses affaires quand on veut avoir les mains libres.. mais bon apparement dans quelque temps, on va voir tout le monde redevenir ” normal ” on ne va pas s´en plaindre :)

Au collège je portais mes vestes en jean/pull/gilet autour de la taille pour cacher mes formes, aujourd’hui à 33 ans je continue de le faire pour le côté pratique… je dois être une personne normale ! ;-)
J’aime beaucoup le fait de nouer une chemise autour de la taille, surtout quand c’est une chemise à imprimés : ça accessoirise et apporte de l’originalité à la tenue, et donne un petit côté “bordelo” que j’aime bien. Il faudrait que j’adopte la chose en question, je n’ai à vrai dire pas encore essayé !
La tenue de Saada sur la photo est à tomber, en plus je trouve que les vêtements blancs sur les peaux métissées rendent encore mieux. Je m’empresse de l”‘épingler” sur mon Pinterest ;-)

I didn’t know this wasn’t in style. Anyway, to me it’s about being practical, not about being stylish. When you’re suddenly hot and you don’t want to carry your jacket or sweater, you tie it around your waist. It works best with jackets whose sleeves aren’t too thick, so they tie easily (like my safari-style windbreaker, which I actually bought to go on a safari, and it has served well for years since). The waist-tied jacket can serve another purpose: to hide one’s butt. Sort of a skirt-over-pants-but-only-in-the-back look.
I have two questions for you:
1. How to dress to be protected from the sun (skin cancer issues) and not look prudish or feel hot?
2. Is there a sunblock that won’t discolor my white clothes? I guess it discolors everything, but it’s more noticeable with white. I’ve ruined a gorgeous white shirtdress and too many white blouses.

Le truc un peu dingue c’est que tu sublimes les filles. Non pas qu’elles ne soient très jolies en tant que telles.

Je l’ai toujours fait et le fait encore avec, quelquefois, la chemise ou le pull noue autour du cou.
C’est pratique et ajoute un genre a une tenue.

I think this woman could wear anything and look amazing, and your photo is wonderful. I however, will never tie a jacket or sweater around my middle. When necessary, I tie the wrists and wear it crossbody, like a weird large bag. No better, but less 80s. And definitely less add “20 visual lbs”

oui c’est vrai on le voit de plus en plus! et j’ai même vu ça dans la presentation ( oui il faut s’interesser à tout haha ) du défilé de rihanna pour River island… bin c’est bien ce qu’on peut s’imaginer quoi du river island avec rihanna les pieces parlent d’elles même on aime ou on aime pas mais justement j’avais bien aimé la veste autour de la taille!! non ça ne me plait pas particulièrement ces vestes-gilet noués à la taille, mais je le fais quand même parce que parfois je n’ai pas le choix.
Après sur des filles magnifiques comme Saada c’est différent. Tu nous montres toujours des filles sublimes qui pourraient porter des sacs poubelles et rester magnifiques. Forcément, ça fausse un peu le jeu ;)

C’est une habitude que nous n’avons jamais perdue en Italie et qui allie idéalement forme et fonction.
Cette ligne blanche horizontale au sol est très intéressante, elle semble couper en deux le fond sur lequel se dessine la silhouette, comme si la partie du haut était un décor vertical.

ah oui, la veste ou le pull autour de la taille, ça faisait longtemps. C’est très pratique -surtout avec p¨¨¨¨¨de temps à Paris- mais question silhouette et esthétique c’est souvent assez moyen. Faut avoir des jambes de 2 m et une taille archi fin pour que ça soit relativement harmonieux ;-)

Reminds me of our city during Holy Week (the last week of Lenten season), because everybody just flocks to the provinces or goes to the beach, or goes abroad for a weeklong vacation. But, the city is the best time to be when that happens, it somewhat becomes like a ghost town :) Which I like, because there’s no traffic, no pollution, everywhere is just 5 to 10 minutes away (which would normally take an hour to get to on a regular day). Lovett. ;)

I am well over thirty five (forty four) and have always, always worn my denim or combat jackets, large sweaters, second-layer oversized shirts and leather jackets around my waist if my bag is too small to fit the said items in without crushing them (especially the oversized shirts).
It’s just practical – as well as providing a protective layer for you to sit on – if your dress is as prettily delicate as the photographed one.
To my mind, at any age, there is never anything “try-hard” about practical. And, I love her choice of shoe!
