Round We Go

I’ve always been a glasses girl. Contacts weren’t even a consideration for me until I started going to all of these black tie weddings and my geek-chic glasses were totally throwing off “my look.” And once Warby Parker introduced optical sunglasses that were affordable forget it—no reason for the contacts ever! (Well, except for when I have pilates…)
I’ve always opted for a slightly rounded over-sized cat eye frame, but lately I’ve found myself much more inspired by a round shape. And when it comes to sunnies, a nice in-between circle is just right. I love these three looks because they play on a mix of big frames and skinny ones, but with that perfectly round shape. Cool and fun without being totally crazy.

Je ne choisis surtout pas mes lunettes en fonction de la mode ou des dernières tendances, mais celles qui iront le mieux avec la forme de mon visage. Les verres plutôt grands, arrondis, assez étranges en fait… Mais ça me plaît !

J’aime beaucoup la première paire de lunette que tu portes ! Elles sont vraiment sympa . Tout comme toi j’aime aussi les lunettes de forme ronde mais j’aime aussi celles qui sont un peu plus de formes originales et peu commune ! :)
It’s quiet amazing how we are all influenced by images that are shown to us again and again ..that at the end we think we love this shape and we even want to wear it!!!..That’s how trends are build..the first who found a new shape and wear it are more fashionable people and than more and more labels propose that same shape and than more and more people have seen the image of this shape…and than more people think that that’s what they love they wear it and a larger group of people see it and want’s that….
When Tom Ford worked with Gucci it was the round sunglasses shape that was fashionable..and than for many years it disappear..than some years ago Prada used it again strongly in her show ..and now the streets want’s it…
the fashion cycle!!!

Ah, j’ai toujours porté des lunettes aussi, plutôt rectangulaires ou papillon. Depuis quelques mois, ma vue s’est améliorée, donc j’en ai moins besoin, mais du coup, je devais refaire ma monture. Je suis allée dans le magasin branché de ma ville. Et on m’a proposé des lunettes rondes et assez grandes. Sauf que j’ai envoyé la photo à mes amis, mon mari, ma mère, et tous ont trouvé que c’était bizarre sur moi, pas moi en vrai, bref, je suis rentrée bredouille et je ne sais pas quoi choisir maintenant ;-)!
I have some cool glasses from Anne et Valentin, handmade in Toulouse, France. They are the Fairy style from a few years ago (in fact, I need to change the prescription)–purple metal with tortoise shell. Not as out there as they sound but not boring either. Rounded shape. Goes well with my eyebrows.

For me it is more about the incredible matte plastic that is happening in muted colors…. but more to the point – my problem is black-tie glasses!
I am looking for that perfect fine…black gloss…awesome gold pair that will pop with a little black dress at black tie. Any ideas?

Love your style! I’ve always been a fan of the more aviator-type sunglasses. When it comes to glasses vs. contacts I am actually the exact opposite, I hardly ever wear my glasses anywhere.

Great looks Emily! How about some style tips on what frames work for different face shapes? And along those lines, what kind of eye makeup should we be wearing under our optical glasses? Daily struggles for me!

I’m admittedly not an expert on shapes–but we could totally do this for a post! As for make up, I always keep it super simple. Just some mascara and basta! I feel like more than that detracts from the look, but again I think it depends on how much of a statement you’re trying to make with your glasses.

Sunglasses can give such a great touch to an outfit, plus make everything a little more misterious. I think the round frames are very flattering and give a young look to almost every face.
