Heels In Winter?

I love Sophie’s outfit, especially the pants worn with very, very high heels.
Heels like that are beautiful, but definitely not practical, especially for winter – it only works if you’ve got a taxi on hand…
And that’s exactly how I know fashion week is almost here. Who knows what kinds of unlikely and impractical outfits I’ll soon have in my head? Argh ;)
Sophie’s new album, Dogs and Men, will be out in the next few months.

Well, exactly as you said-if you have a taxi on hand. I recently attended an evening party, during which there was an unexpectedly heavy snow fall and me leaving the party in very high heels covered immediately in snow was a picture indeed!:) I do love heels though, wish there were more practical…
Heels are totally doable here in San Diego! I love the length of her pants with the heels.

Ca donne super style en photo et en même temps ça fait vraiment Dominatrix en réalité. Il y a eu un docu sur ces shoes il y a quelques mois sur Arte qui montrait bien l’origine SM de ces chaussures exagérées ultra haut perchées.
Sinon je n’ai toujours pas compris comment porter ce type de chaussures en climat tempéré (les pieds ne gonflent pas ? et les faibles points d’appui sur lesquels tout ton corps s’appuie continuent à être alimentés par le sang pendant combien de temps ? Et ensuite t’as quand même ou les pieds gelés ou les pieds gonflés ? Est-ce qu’on ne peut es porter que assise ou pour des séances photos), alors en climat gelé, à part mettre des chaufferettes de ski dedans… >.<
Le seul moment où je les ai portées (pourtant mes talons sont un peu moins haut que ceux de Sophie) c’était au moment de leur achat devant le miroir de la boutique…
et ensuite après un essai debout dans ma cuisine pendant l’épluchage des patates, je me suis dit que jamais je ne pourrai les porter au-delà de 10 mn ! alors je me contente de les admirer de temps à autre sur l’étagère de mon placard….
Pour Sophie je pense qu’elle les a portées le temps de la photo ? ou alors elle est courageuse !

Makes it hard to appreciate this when its so cold out in NYC. And when there is a big chunk of the year to wear what we please ( summer, spring, fall), why the pain ?
Although i live in Arizona and we are in shorts and flats already.
I love super high heels! Here in Calgary (Canada) forget about wearing heels outside in the winter… That’s asking for a broken neck right there. This is why I am super jealous of Californians. But nice to see someone in NYC brave enough to wear these in the winter ;)

Great look or not, any self-respecting New Yorker is cringing at this post. How about a post on dressing for the freezing weather? I’m tired of seeing girls in the streets and subways in cute little peacoats and autumnal shoes- it just doesn’t make sense. The reason I love your blog is because you’re willing to approach real life aspects of fashion. It was 26 and windy today in New York. Let’s talk about the real winter artillery! The non-wimpy down coats, the base layers, the shearling, the fur, the thermals, the correct NYC slush-ready footwear (gems which are hard to find, especially the ones that don’t look gross). I’ll take the heels when spring comes.
Love this! I would wear such a combo in late March and not earlier. However, the idea that winter is all about snow boots is dreadful. I wear heeled boots (with thick tights) even when it’s snowing and I really feel comfortable. This outfit would be perfect with heeled ankle boots, tights and a big scarf – even when it’s 24 degrees out and snowing!

je crois qu’il n’y a plus de règles ! je vis à Londres et toutes les anglaises sont perchées sur de hauts talons en hiver, souvent sans collants ! Et puis, pas besoin de taxi pour toutes les filles, certaines sont des warriors qui arrivent à pratiquer ce type de chaussures au quotidien…

I love it although I’m too much of a wimp when it comes to the weather! Comes early October I’m already in my winter boots. I try to find bots with relatively comfortable heel for every day but the call of high heel proves to much…hence 3 pairs of unwalkable over the knee boots…

They look like instruments of torture to me! Those shoes can’t be either comfortable or good for you. I see women walking in shoes like that and they look like they are physically challenged, which they are because of the shoes!
I agree! And that’s what makes them so super unsexy to me!
What is sexy about a woman who can only walk five feet? It’s such an oldfashioned way of treating the female body.
Ballerina’s, mocassins, loafers, brogues, sneakers all the way for me. Even before that became the trend.

no, not in the winter at all, unless I’m going to a party and can change shoes around the corner. It’s just not happening in Scandinavia in general in the winter, we know there might be a surprise icy challenge when you’re done from work or going to work.
Black ice is for example a concept here – which basically means that the roads freeze, but you can’t see it, so you fall from your heels/your bike etc. So, no heels, but when we get to March the heels come out!
In Winter, In New York, heels are weapons. Gorgeous weapons. Super impractical, ghastly inappropriate but jawdroppingly stunning. Even G. Rossis which are, well… straight from heaven.
Forget winter, heels are for any day or night or season.

From a guy’s viewpoint (no I don’t wear heels, lol) heels are great to see on a woman but very impractical. When I see a woman in heels I hope her day doesn’t involve much walking.
