Mais oui! À la française! C’est ce que je préfère aussi et c’est comme ça que je me sens le plus à l’aise.

Ayant vécu presque quatre ans sur la côte ouest canadienne, dans la sublime ville de Vancouver, j’ai toujours été sidérée de voir mes copines anglo-saxonnes se préparer pendant des heures. Et que je passe 50 minutes à me boucler les cheveux, et que je te mets une jupe plus étroite qu’un bandeau pour les cheveux, des talons, du gloss, et enfin, des faux-cils. Un vrai carnaval. Ce qui est drôle c’est qu’elles ADORENT s’habiller comme ça pour aller en soirée…Personnellement, la perfection m’a toujours fait un peu peur. On retrouve ensuite ces mêmes copines aux toilettes toutes les 20 minutes pour qu’elles fassent des retouches…ce qui n’est pas trop mon truc. J’aime les coupes impeccables, les matières douces et les tons neutres car je peux ensuite mettre des chaussures un peu plus folles. J’aime être classe et soignée mais je préfère le minimalisme. Et je sais que c’est un peu bizarre mais je ne veux pas qu’il y ait trop de différences entre moi tous les jours et moi en soirée. Là Caroline a misé sur une veste courte et un pantalon sublime, et ça lui suffit. Nickel. Je suis sûre que tu te débrouilleras très bien! Bon courage et have fun.

I too live on the west coast of Canada and I don’t know if it’s all the years I’ve spent in Paris and Tokyo but I find I pretty much dress in the same clothes for everything (except maybe throw on red lipstick and a piece of jewellry to fancy it up for night). I’m beginning to think there’s something lacking in me because all my friends have a going out look and I”ve actually been criticized for not dressing UP … it just isn’t what I find beautiful but I”ve been thinking I need to try harder. This woman Garance has photographed captures exactly what I find beautiful. I want that outfit so badly!!!!

S’habiller pour sortir le soir… c’est quelque chose que j’ai longtemps été incapable de faire. Je crois que c’est le côté ultra sexy qui me bloquait avant. Maintenant, je m’habille en me disant un truc tout bête “je suis sexxxy qd je suis bien dans mes (baskets) (talons) whatever et que je m’amuse”….Et ça marche qulque soit le type de soirées, c’est génial!!

Caroline de Maigret incarne ce qui s’appelle le bon goût. On aura beau dire que c’est un concept éculé, rigide et borné, il n’empêche que ça existe, le bon goût. C’est ce qui ne se ringardise jamais, ce qui fait que quand on revoit quelqu’un en photo des années après, son style est toujours aussi actuel et fait toujours autant mouche (faire mouche pour avoir un chien fou, héhéhé…).
A quoi cela tient-il ? Sans doute à l’éducation. Aux codes que l’on a assimilés pendant son enfance qui font qu’on apprend que dans telle ou telle circonstance on ne porte jamais tel ou tel type de vêtement ou de couleur, que la sobriété est synonyme d’élégance, que le choix des coupes et des matières est essentiel, qu’on ne suit pas bêtement la mode (c’est pour les gens vulgaires), qu’un achat est toujours un investissement bien mûri et pensé, etc.
Même quand quelqu’un comme Caroline achète des vêtements à petits prix (cf. article sur elle.fr), ils donneront toujours l’impression d’être des classiques chics et luxueux.
Ce genre de goût, c’est le même que celui qui fait qu’en toutes circonstances on sait composer un bon repas, avec des produits de qualité, même dans la simplicité, ou bien celui qui fait qu’on sait dire ce que l’on pense avec assurance et esprit, mais toujours sans vulgarité et sans une pensée au raz des pâquerettes.

Would I be correct in guessing that Caroline is no ingénue? And that she dresses herself in the morning (& in the evening too!). Three cheers for the grown-up woman with a great style of her own!

I would love to see more inspiration on this topic: dressing chic for night, but not too fancy or sexy. I always struggle with this cause I don’t go out to night clubs or anything, I’m never going to get all done up with a short dress and massive heels. I just like to go out for a few drinks and I don’t want to look silly if we end up out dancing somewhere later. But also not look like I was expecting that, if we don’t. I always end up wearing dark skinny jeans, a simple black top and my black boucle jacket with this style quilted “chanel” bag and simple black heels. I would love to get more ideas though cause when I go shopping I’m just lost…
