The name has been making a buzz among fashion editors for a few years now. I had photographed the creator’s amazing parkas several times, and felt like going a little further to get a feel for her world. Chitose Abe founded Sacai in 1999 after several years at Comme des Garçons and Junya Watanabe, and it’s totally blowing up right now, which is no surprise.
The extreme attention to detail, the layers, the femininity and coolness that are apparent in each piece give the brand a real identity – something you can’t find anywhere else. You recognize Sacai in two seconds and you want to wear it right away.
A little more information about Sacai!
– Sacai is now 16 years old, a proper teen!
– The name comes from Chitose’s maiden name “Sakai”, but since there is a Japanese racing team by the same name, they changed it to “Sacai” to keep confusions low.
– The brand has been showing in Paris since 2004 and started doing fashion runway in 2011 with a small team of just 6 from Japan.
– Chitose wants everyone to enjoy wearing Sacai, and I can’t wait, can you?
But I’ll stop going on and on about it, and let you look at the photos!

wow ! gorgeous !
Strong , at times raw, edgy but feminine without the frou frou ……great clothes to go out into a hard world feeling confortable and powerful
and I love those booties too
I am a fan of Margiela, Celine, ann demeulemester , watanabe , iris von herpen…..so this collection looks like something I could totally get into…….but if it is not too horribly expensive
thank you Garance !

Thank you for this post. Not sure how I feel about Sacai, but was very satisfied with the the QUANTITY of photos. Often there just aren’t enough to tell the story. : )
Merci, Garance.
Superbe découverte, merci !

Am a massive fan of Sacai – can’t believe it is already a 16year old brand! In my naivety I had assumed it was a relative newcomer to the scene. Looking forward to seeing what they have in store for us moving forward!
