I love the world according to the Astier de Villatte boutique on Rue St. Honoré in Paris. Every time I pass by, I stop, take a look around inside and I smell each and every one of their candles…
It’s almost too theatrical when everything is together, but there are always a few things that I think would work perfectly back at my place. Like this weirdly bizarre teapot in the sixth photo. What about you?

the print is called ” marbled pottery” ..its a tipe of decoration used for the firts time, in XVI-XVII century Italian- Tuscany pottery end than, it spread all over Europe! (too nerdish??)

In English, it’s called “marbled” or, the technique, “marbling,” (like the stone.) It’s done by dropping ink onto the surface of water and then rolling the item you’re decorating across it. Lots of fun!
These photos evoke a uniquely beautiful atmosphere. Next time I’m in Paris, I know one place I’m going!
What a wonderful artisan! I love the simplicity of AV design, and the feeling when you touch it. It’s the most beautiful ceramic I know.
I have a little white jug in ceramic from Astier, and I use it for a little vase. The jugs look gorgeous with flowers ;)

Je n’en pense que du bien de cette théière et de ce qu’il y a en général chez Astier de Villatte. Pour la théière, ce n’est pas un imprimé mais la technique des “terres mêlées”. Plusieurs boudins de terres de différentes couleurs sont mélangés et triturés ensemble pour donner cet aspect marbré. C’est une sacrée technique. il faut que les terres différentes soient compatibles, aient le même degré de retrait au séchage… Il y a peu de potiers qui sachent le faire. Grâce soit rendue à Benoît Astier d’en proposer dans une si jolie forme.
Ce type de décor est classique chez les bibliophiles c’est simplement inspiré du papier reliure marbré, on en trouve souvent en Italie dans les boutiques cadeaux qui diffusent “Il Papiro “. :)

Garance tu trouveras le papier marbré italien rue du Pont Louis Philippe, trottoir de gauche quand tu vas vers l’île St Louis. Grâce à cette théière je viens de découvrir des infos passionnantes. Récemment je suis restée scotchée chez Galignani sur un livre magnifique uniquement consacré aux marbres, et cette théière m’y fait penser.
La technique de la “terre mêlée”, ou “nériage” vient plus particulièrement du Sud (qui l’on hérité des chinois en fait…) ; on en trouve beaucoup en Provence.

J’adore la théière marbrée! Le motif me rappelle les couvertures de livres du début de 20e siècle, vraiment super!
Gorgeousness! The teapot is made using ceramic glaze that is created in the same fashion as Italian marble paper, which is the exact same kind we were showing you that we obsessively collect in our studio. That teapot is SO drool-worthy : ) Did you get it?
En un mot, ou en deux : j’aime tout ! Les casiers, le papier mural, les pots anciens (ou de style) d’apothicaire, les verres, etc….
Quant au chandelier : quelle creation magnifique.
Paris me manque tellement……
La théière est marbrée et je dirais qu’elle est faite à la technique de la cuve (comme les imprimés des couvertures des livres anciens).

Concernant la théière il s’agit d’une collaboration Astier de Villatte/John Derian (designer new-yorkais) et du motif “marbre”, un “chromo” est posé (à la main, par une personne de notre atelier parisien) sur la theière qui est à la base en céramique.

as you know by now it is marbelling. But you should try it yourself with paper. Go down t your local art shop and buy a few marble inks and then with a tray or water and nice paper you can officially do marbelling! Some marbled paper with your illustrations over the top would look amazing. L x

I like when somebody notice thing like that: candles, beutiful smells or just nice wrappings. It;s good to pay attention to things that are small, maybe sometimes unuseful. To things that were made just to bring us happines while looking at them.

Je connais l’expression parce que quand j’étais en CE2, pour la fête des pères, notre maîtresse nous avait fait faire des pots à crayons comme ça.
(oui j’ai de ces références….)
Et donc en gros, ça implique une bassine d’eau, une encre bizarre, plein d’encres bizarres des couleurs que tu veux, tu touilles 2 secondes pour “mélanger” (même si les couleurs sont non-miscibles, tu vois j’ai bien retenu mes cours de CE2) et tu plonges la feuille de papier dedans, et PAF ça fait des Chocapic !

That teapot looks like it was hand-marbled (dipped in marbling dyes as so — http://quilting.about.com/od/fabricdyeing/ss/marble_fabric.htm ). I’ve marbled paper with great results the first time. I would love to be able to marble a teapot!!

Sublime boutique, avec une atmosphère qui m’a l’air très poétique.
It’s a marbled pattern, like the Venetian paper on the inside covers of old books. I have such a pattern on my nails, very beautiful, with different combinations of colour each time. The galleon light is wonderful.

Cet endroit est vraiment beau. Moi aussi j’aime bien ce genre de motifs, mais parce que je suis libraire de livres anciens et ce type de motif est une imitation de papier marbré qui recouvre souvent les contre-plats (2e et 3e de couverture) des anciens livres. Il y en a te toute sorte et peut déterminer l’age du livre. Je me vois définitivement servir du thé dans cette théière! Si tu as des amis libraires, ce serait une bonne idée de cadeau.

My very favorite candles ( I discovered through my boyfriend) are from a young brand which seems French-Italian : their glass is divine, the scents very original and … I find them only on their website for now :) Does anyone know if they sell in some stores or if they have news scents coming?
