Art of Layering
9 years ago by
There’s an art to layering. It’s one of those styling techniques that you can use for almost every outfit. I often layer a shirt under a sweater or jacket under a coat, but I really love this idea of using a skirt as a layering detail.
It’s such an interesting way to think of it, and a cool way to frame a sweater or a coat – or just add more interest to an outfit. Especially if it’s an ornate or metallic skirt mixed with basic neutrals on top.
Here are some of the layered skirt looks from Paris Fashion Week…

I think layering is more suitable for european girls. For Asian girls like hong kongers, if we wear layering in a improper way, we will look shorter…… The girl in the first photo looks good.

I’m terrible at layering… I usually end up not being able to move my arms. Told, you: terrible!

I like the art of layering, but the last one is too much for me..

I love blazers but struggle to get them under a coat and really don’t want to buy coats twice my size just to get the shoulder to fit a blazer under.
But the layering of shirts, sweaters sure. Trying to find new run ways. I do like a dress over pants or jeans.
love the thought of a skirt as a layering tool — the first look is so cool

Some of the layering are working and other not…..you have to be very subtile in doing it…not because it’s in fashion that it is nice!!

You can use dresses in the same way. I like to do so monochromatically so that I don’t chop up the lines of my body so much. Love the post!
I love your style- the first is my fave! Love the layering trend

Layering is so helpful in the winter! Currently in Texas, we just had a cold front blow in! I’m literally wearing so many layers right now for both style and warmth!
For my very first date with my now-husband I wore an outfit almost exactly like your top photo (long torso pullover sweater + ethereal patterned skirt + white sneakers) — back in 1987. :)
I love the second one with the leather jacket. The long sweater and skirt combo would swallow me up in a sec.
Some people are good at it, the rest are like sheep, just following the leader. It isn’t suitable for everyone, depends on your size and taste and eye for detail. Too many people try too hard to be different and stand out from the crowd rather than being true to themselves.
always waiting for the winter to come so i can start layring ! its so fun !
and it looks great & chic!

I love the style of the 3d picture!
That first style completely had me at hello
The secret to good layering is good posture so you are not weighed down by these layers but rather your frame allows these layers to, well, frame you. This tip works for any height or size, I have noticed.
