A Beauty Minute with Rochelle and Savana Peetoom

4 years ago by

Rochelle Peetoom and Savana Peetoom are the CEO and US Managing Director, respectively, of Rob Peetoom Salons. Founded by their father, Rob Peetoom, in 1969, they recently opened up their first US location in Williamsburg. We stopped by this week to chat all things beauty…

Morning routine:
I truly believe in supplementing skin from within so I like to start my day with a collagen shot and a celery juice. My daily skincare differs from which country I’m presently in because of the changing weather, but that’s why I swear by Biologique Recherche products which has a range of products for everything. I start with the Lait U Cleansing Milk and Colostrum bio-serum before moving onto the Crème Grand Millesime serum and Aux Acides de Fruits cream. I finish off with the Silk Plus serum and L’Eauxygénante oxygen spray.

When it comes to makeup, I don’t actually like putting on too much which is why I’m thrilled about ILIA and Biologique Recherche launching a skincare foundation with SPF. This is like my ideal makeup product, something that’s hydrating, that provides sun protection and will not clog my pores (and they are my 2 favorite brands). Other makeup products I love are the Chanel mascara, YSL Touche Eclat and INGEbrows Powders and brow gels.

With my hair, it’s all about the lifecycle. Day 1, I use the Davines Oi Shampoo followed by a root lifting product. Then I blow dry using a professional round brush and always upside down to add volume. I try not to use a hairspray if I can avoid it but I love the Elixir Ultime from Kerastase for my ends. Day 2 is a breeze when I can just wake up and go about my day. Day 3, I touch-up my curls with either a blow dry brush or curling iron and supplement with some dry shampoo. Day 4, if I’m in the mood to stretch it, I tie my hair up in a slick ponytail and secure with a little hairspray. If I’m stringing it along to Day 5, then I just avoid seeing anyone that day!

Key products throughout the day:
– Biologique Recherche BioKiss Lip Balm
– Biologique Recherche L’Eauxygénante oxygen spray to maintain a dewy look
MAC Blot Powder
Chanel Palette Essentielle which has a concealer, highlighter and color so you can touch-up on the go
Davines Naturaltech Royal Jelly Superactive that hydrates the scalp when flaky
– Eye drops if I’m feeling tired
– Travel size dry shampoo

Nighttime routine:
My nighttime routine is much less intensive and it just involves taking everything off which feels amazing! I use the Biologique Recherche Lait U to clean my skin and then apply the beloved P50 lotion and Masque Crème Biofixine. I also use a collagen sheet mask for under my eyes and follow it up with all the serums I can find (placenta, elastine). I end with an eye cream.
Before bed, I brush my hair with a strong hairbrush that uses boar bristles that prevents split ends and keeps my hair soft. Finally, I apply the Kerastase 8H Magic Night Serum as a leave-in treatment to nourish my hair overnight, and I braid it so it’s cute and curly in the morning.

Go-to trick for a good hair day:
If I know I have a super important day coming up, I wash and blow dry my hair the night before and don’t use any products to maintain a clean slate the next day. This way your hair literally has time to rest over night, and then in the morning I work on my curls with a curling iron for the best natural looking hair!

Morning Routine:
In the morning, I start with a big glass of water to kick-start my system. I always make sure to wash my face with cold water and then begin to apply my Biologique Recherche skincare routine (it is my favorite brand and we also carry their products in the Williamsburg salon!). First, I use Lotion P50 to exfoliate, followed by Serum 3R to renew and repair, and Creme Hydravit’s, rubbing and massaging in an upward motion to prevent sagging. I need lots of moisture in this cold weather and love a natural, glowy look. Next, I make myself a cup of tea, toss my hair up in a bun, and apply hydrating under-eye patches while I make breakfast and check emails. My makeup routine is super simple – lately, I’ve been loving the Glossier mascara, dewy, natural eyeshadow, and my Dior pink lip glow. I always have a perfect cut from my genius father, so one brush through my hair in the morning will do it! I will zhuzh it up with Davines texturizing spray, but that’s about it. I pinch my cheeks and brush my eyebrows and I’m out the door for the day!

Key products throughout the day:
– Biologique Recherche L’Eauxygénante oxygen spray to maintain a dewy look
– An atomizer with my signature scent – a mix of Estee Lauder’s Bronze Goddess and Giorgio Armani’s Si Intense
– Glossier Mascara
Dior pink lip glow
Chanel blush
Lucas Papaw Ointment (an Australian brand, our mother is from there)

Nighttime routine:
In the evening, I wash my face with cold water and Biologique Recherche cleanser. I put my hair up in a bun with a head band, so that the products I use don’t touch my hair. I apply Biologique’s Masque Vivant to purify and brighten my skin – and leave it on for about 15 minutes while making dinner. Sometimes I add in a little baking soda to make it more powerful and effective, then wipe it off with a washcloth. Then, I apply P50 Lotion, R3 Serum, Extraits Tissulaires, and Masque Vernix, while using a gua sha jade tool to lift and smooth my skin. Right before bed, I take my supplements/vitamins, spritz my Slip silk pillow (for my hair and skin) with lavender mist for relaxation – oh, and always always always have a glass of water by my bed for when I wake up!

Go-to trick for a good hair day:
I was blessed with great hair every day with Rob Peetoom as my father :)
But in all seriousness, there are a few tricks and rules I always follow:
When you wash your hair, never let it air dry. You must dry your scalp so the natural oils will flow to your ends and won’t make your hair look greasy at the top.
Don’t sleep with a hair tie or band in because it will break your hair. If anything, you can use a hair pin (not a bobby pin!) since it won’t create dents.
If you don’t want to ruin your hairstyle and want to keep it fresh for the next day, use a shower cap when you get into a hot shower to prevent the moisture and humidity from reaching your hair.
