Morning: Every morning I wash my face with either Binchotan Charcoal Facial Soap or Somme Institute cleanser and then go through the Somme Institute five step program–technically six steps, since I add the eye treatment. I usually don’t wear makeup unless I go out. If I need to look somewhat presentable, but don’t really care, I’ll just wear NARS concealer and curl my eyelashes. But if I go for full makeup, it will be Armani Luminous Silk Foundation or Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet Foundation, NARS concealer and powder, Benefit Dandelion Blush, Urban Decay Naked Palette as eyeliner, Benefit They’re Real mascara, and Vaseline Lip Treatment.
I’m the world’s laziest with hair so I rarely do anything to it other than wash it. My favorite hair product is Margaret Josefin Hair Care Essence. It smooths dry bits and smells like peaches. And for body, always Mountain Ocean Skin Trip Moisturizer.
Day: The only thing I ever religiously carry with me at all times is Vaseline Lip Treatment. Or Mountain Ocean Lip Trip if I’m doing something active and I don’t want to use my hands. There’s nothing worse than chapped lips. If I’m actually wearing makeup I’ll have my NARS compact powder and concealer on me for touch ups.
Night: At night I remove all my makeup with Philosophy Purity and a swipe of Bioderma Créaline to make sure everything is off. As a long time sufferer of acne, I’m strict about removing all my makeup and washing my face before bed. Every few weeks I’ll do a mask – either Boscia Luminizing Black Mask or Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay mixed with Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar. If I have breakouts I’ll use Kate Somerville EradiKate or tea tree oil. La Mer The Eye Concentrate for eyes. I love the cooling applicator stick. For moisture I alternate between La Mer Creme de la Mer and Rodin Olio Lusso depending on how dry I feel.”

You could do all this … or you could just be born with amazing genes like all of the women in this feature invariably are.
These women could wash their faces in pretty much anything and look good. Cetaphil, sorbolene, paraffin, Creme de la Mer – it wouldn’t make a difference. Why not feature a woman with difficult skin, at least once?
Ah don’t let the lighting fool you! I luckily did not have crazy breakouts this fashion week (versus a pea-sized cyst I had previously http://bit.ly/1v4ji5k) so it looks “smoother” than if you saw me in real life. If I maintain a strict regimen I am lucky to go a few weeks without giant cysts or bumpy clusters, but if I get lazy you bet I start breaking out immediately. I’ve accepted that I’m never going to have poreless porcelain airbrushed skin, but as long as I can minimize bumpy texture and scarring, I’m not gonna beat myself up too much. So sadly the image is not a portrayal of “amazing genes” (wah, I wish!) but rather, diligence in caring for one’s skin. It’s not meant to discourage people, but hopefully show that with effort you can improve on even not-so-amazing genes :) now someone guide me on age spots!

You can create the sharpest lines with them! I get the wing on (messily) with the eyeshadow brush in the palette and then clean up the line with the cotton swabs :)

I’ve heard so much about the Somme Institute skin regimen… I’d love to learn more about it before spending the money… Any experience with it?

I love (LOOOVE) this blog, and I never comment on anything, but this is the nth time I’ve noticed something that to me is quite odd.
I really find it a bit amusing to hear all these women say “oh, I really don’t wear any makeup on a day to day basis, just chapstick and concealer when I want to feel “fancy” and then appear in photos with eyeliner, mascara, etc. (not in an evening/going out type of situation); or say they only let their hair air-dry or blow-dry and don’t use anything but shampoo and then go on to enumerate all their hair products, and so on.
It just comes across as a bit of a contradiction, and I think sends the wrong message. I wish women would embrace whatever products and beauty routines they REALLY use, without feeling they have to necessarily conform to the “I-woke-up-like-this” mentality!
I agree wholeheartedly with your comment. If you really don’t wear any makeup during the day and you only wash your hair and do nothing else with, then why does every blog post have you made up with tons of makeup and a professional blowout? I don’t trust bloggers who say one thing about themselves and then portray a totally opposite person in their photos.
I know the photos look beautiful, but there was no professional hair or makeup for Jayne – and that’s true for every single one of our beauty minutes! We really rarely shoot anyone with professional makeup or hair, and always credit where we do. Promise :)
