Dreamy DROMe
9 years ago by
I love the luxurious feel of leather, plus who doesn’t love a perfectly worn in leather jacket? But I more recently discovered Italian brand DROMe, who are all leather. It’s kind of wild, to even think of a fashion line so completely dedicated to one fabric… But for designer Marianna Rosati, that’s almost a challenge.
Maybe a little like artists who become renowned for using one specific material (Serra for his metal work, architect Paul Andreu for his glass buildings), it forces you to think about how a fabric like leather can be worked. Pleated, fringed, asymmetrical cuts, knitted even.
But what I love most is that they take a typically tough material, one known for its fan base in the motorcycling and punk worlds, and made it playful and feminine. And, somehow, so appropriate for spring…
C’est pas nouveau ! Loewe à la base c’est du cuir, Fendi de la fourrure, Rykiel de la maille….

not to be a spoilsport, but just to raise some leather awareness after another fashion month with lots of gotta have boots, shoes, jackets etc. – and now this post…
do you know that much nice, supple leather is actually dog skin – and that you probably really don’t want to see how these dogs are skinned and killed?
and that many fashion manufacturers don’t know/can’t tell the source of the leather they use? (it’s hard to tell after processing, dying etc..)
it’s easy to quell misgivings on wearing animal skin with thoughts like – the animal got killed anyway because it was eaten.
but if you want to advocate the wearing of leather, please make sure the brand you want to buy from/sell knows what animals were used, and how and where they were killed. it does make a difference!
I second this! And no matter if it’s cow, dog, chinchille skin, it’s not ecological to have to raise animals and then skin and process them just so we can have unnecessary luxury items! Try skinning 10.000 mice from a natural mice invasion and make a skirt out of them, but don’t breed them just because you can.
that’s really cool — I love leather but can’t imagine an entire leather collection
