When we heard that Rebecca was having her first solo exhibition at the Catherine Ahnell Gallery just around the corner from the Studio, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to delve a bit deeper into the process that goes into creating her lovely watercolors.
On our first visit, she was just beginning the series she would eventually call Assumption, re-appropriating what the word virgin meant to its origins (FYI: having to do with a woman’s freedom and independence and knowledge of herself, and no sexual connotation at all!). With so many inspiring women around her, it’s no surprise her newsprint paper watercolors emerged into brilliant variations of the idea – always a bit unfinished, but always beautiful.
It was a very cool experience to watch unfold, so we had to share it with you…

I love that definition of virgin. Beautiful artwork and a gorgeous artist. I love that she is posing in hot pink paints while she paints. I can’t imagine that would happen in real life!

Merci de nous faire découvrir son art, je ne connaissais pas et c’est vraiment magnifique!
Her artwork is wonderful.
L’association entre le débardeur / des stilettos noirs et le pantalon fuchsia criard, elle travaillant avec son oeuvre dans un espace épuré… l’image est très belle!

Love this post ! Where is that amazing pink suit from ? It’s stunning !
I love how Rebecca uses newsprint paper to add to softness of the watercolors and a work in progress look! She looks amazing in the soft blush and bright pink outfits that match her paintings! xo

These mesmerising images of the images (that Rebecca paints) give me goosebumps! They – like their artist – appear ethereal, intangible, strong and yet tender. Really spectacular!
Rebecca must be the most stylish painter I ever saw! Also amaazing work! wish I was in NY to see that!!
