  • Loved it! Thank you for a great morningstarter!(In Holland)

  • very informative: i’ll try ur tips! :)

  • Merciiiiii!!!!

    Welcome back in Paris!

    xx

  • Lovely video!

Was nice seeing you at the Dries show

    http://www.cashmerecoffee.com

  • Lindbergh says that everybody is a photographer because, after all, it’s all about the way you look at reality, the way you watch it… That is the only point, isn’t it?

  • New person at the studio is sooooo Scarlett Johansson in Match Point but in brunette!!

  • Magnifique!!! congrats! inspiring & helpful.. Can you give us the names of the songs??

  • Yes, everybody is a photographer.
    Few a good one.

    ;-)

    M.

  • Lovely video!! It’s wonderful to start the morning with Pardon my French!

  • Wow, it’ amazing to hear about your tricks :) Love this serie!
    Kisses

  • Chouette ! Je suis tellement fan de tes vidéos…

  • Wow! Amazing video.

  • Wow, great movie again. Love it! Love from Holland

  • Yay! Thank you for fixing my morning after I just had such a rude woman on the phone, aah!

  • Hhahahahhahhahahahahaaaaaa Pardon my French, I’m in love!

  • Garance, kiitos/ merci for this PMF!
Pure love :). I have had a love relationship with pictures ever since I was quite young and got to be the official photographer of the family on a summer vacation in southern France/northern Italy. It was still during the times when digital cameras were pretty much non-existant-
oh the excitement when the pictures arrived!

Sometimes I miss those days because everything is attainable immediately now and it takes away a little bit of the excitement.

Nowadays everybody really is a photographer-though I personally don’t know/care that much about the light- some of the best accidentally perfect photos were taken against the light- a great story was lured in them by breaking that one rule.

  • nice video thanks!!
Garance a personal question you wore some lovely black flat sparkling ballerina at Dries Van Noten show yesterday in Paris , who are they from? are they from Miu Miu? this season?
    PLEASE REPLY TO THIS QUESTION
    YOU WORE MY DREAM SHOES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    thank you

Anyone can be a photographer!

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I literally sent you an email two days ago asking about this. Now all I’d like to know is the main camera that you use and your lenses. Spill the beans, Garance. I know I’m not the only one who’d love to know!

P.S. I agree with Natacha, the new person at the studio is a dead ringer for Scarlett. Gorgeous!

  • Jeeeh, Pardon my French is back!! Superbe again Garance, I was hoping it was coming back during fashion weeks. Merci!!

  • What a great video, this was so cool for me as I am really getting into photography nowadays. Perfect way to start my morning. Bonjour Garance and Team.

  • Thank you for this motivating video!!

    http://outandaboutoslo.com

I have missed PMF so much, and I think this is your best yet. Loved that casual intimacy between you and Scott, felt a little voyeuristic watching it.

  • I think anyone can take photos, but not everyone is a photographer.
I think it has to do with a consistency (in quality and maybe also in style, although experimenting keeps being important of course) and selection (editing and creating a narrative, telling your stories, through the photographs you shot).

  • Très chouette vidéo (et sujet)!

  • I always get so happy when watching these videos. Thank you for that !

    Love, Isabella

  • U and your team r so good at this…effortless….Bravo!! i take great pic…i like to flatter my subjects and i edit ones that aren’t….

  • OMG Garance! I am just about to buy my first DSLR camera! Thank you so much for this episode….it is so inspiring!

  • Finally! I missed Pardon my french!

  • Loved this Pardon My French! Enjoy Paris!

  • Tout ca me donne envie de me mettre à la photo ;-)

  • Un bon photographe :
    – utiliser la lumière (au possible naturelle)
    – composer l’image (rythme visuel)
    – avoir le bon timing !
    – pas / peu de retouche

Super vidéo, bonne leçon de photographie !!

  • Well done! Informative and fun. :)

    black and white.

  • What a brilliant video – beautifully shot and I loved Scott’s tip about making use of the light!

  • AAAAAAAAHHHH I’M SO HAPPY!!!!! Looking forward to more Pardon My French!!! Love you Garance!!!

  • Hooray! Finally she is back with a video! I suppose everybody waited so long for a new one! Really love your videos! So cool and creative! I hope someone will give you a fashion and lifestyle tv show or whatever soon… Hello you producers with the deep pockets full of money….listen to what we really want: a (min.) weekly pardon my french show!

  • Lovely video! It’s so cool to hear from people about how they view photography, and the influx of iPhone photographers out there. :-)

My husband is always telling me that you can take amazing photos with the worst equipment – you just have to know how to make it work for you. He’s definitely right – I’ve seen some amazing photos coming off of people’s phones lately. It seems that some of us are figuring out how to take good photos with what we have around.

  • yeeeeeeyyyyyy!!! Finally! I missed so much “Pardon my french” videos! really love them!

  • love the video !!
what laura said about “#hashtaging” reminds me this funny video of jimmy fallon and justin timberlake.

  • what a great video! I love Robert’s advice about getting close and how you only need an iPhone! Go iPhone photography!

  • I’ve missed your videos !!!

    Martina

  • Thank you. I have loved this video! I love photos and the most important thing for me is light, when the sun is there in the very morning (now let’s say before 8 am) and in the afternoon. These are the best moments to take photos. Light is so sweet and gentle and is more kind…

  • This is extremely adorable and perhaps, everyone is the photographer these days.

    Your Friend, Jess

  • Great video.” I love pardon my french “and this was a real fresh take on fashion week.
    Thanks.

  • i want your new person In The studio to be my bff. can she be my best friend?
on the subject, i think you can only take good pictures of things you know, one way or another. in that aspect, photography is no different from other arts: you can’t write books about things you don’t know, you can’t draw a portrait of a person you haven’t see, observed. There has to be an inner trigger for a good piece of art, i think.

  • I’ve been missing the series so much! It’s great to see another episode.
As much as I respect Mr. Lindbergh, I tend to think quite the opposite. I like taking pictures, walking around the city and looking for interesting light, frames or faces (my boyfriend is always annoyed by that, he’d rather have a regular walk not a photo-walk with me), but I don’t consider myself a photographer. More often I describe myself as an aspiring photographer or a wannabe photographer.
So what makes a photographer for me? It’s when you know that what you shoot is good. When good frames are no longer accidental. When you can achieve the effect you had in mind. Until then, you’re not photographing, you’re just taking pictures.

  • Great video. Loved the photography tips and the crazy eye reference was hilarious.

  • “Pardon my french” yeaaaaaaah! Depuis le temps que je le réclame!!!! (bon j’étais un peu relou? ;p)

    Merci Garance! Bises!

  • Garance, I’ve been looking for a white shirt like yours for a long time, can you let me know where you got yours?
    xoxo

  • I love it! You should also try Lumia 1020, amazing features :-)

  • Great video. I am currently living in Taiwan, and here, people take pictures of everything! You can follow their daily life through Instagram. The things Taiwanese people but also Asian people instagram the most is food and themselves with friends making faces. I love how Asian people can make any picture look cute and adorable.
But I have to say that you are one of my favorite photographer as you always take such simple, beautiful pictures that have a fresh feeling.

  • Yay!! I absolutely love your videos. They are so great! What is the song in the very beginning? (Starts with “where did you go…”)

  • Oooo super video, I love the mood of it!
I collect people who take photos on my tumblr: http://haloomy.tumblr.com/… they are sooo inspiring for me.
    All photographers are welcomed :-)))

My regular camera is getting dusty because I keep using my iPhone. I’d say 90% of the photos I took this summer in Paris were on my iPhone. I even invested in the little lenses that fit right over the camera lens on your iPhone. My friend Wally McNamee was a photographer for Life magazine for years. He always tells me to look for the story in the photo. You and Scott are both very good at this.

  • Coucou!

    Merci d’avance!

  • I know they’re probably so much work to produce but I do LOVE your “Pardon My French” videos and have really missed them this fashion month so far. Especially loved the subject of today’s episode. Looking forward to the next!

  • I’ve missed your videos, Garance!!! This one is so informative, and I LOVE that Peter Lindbergh thinks that everyone is a photographer. That makes me so happy, because now with camera phones and Instagram, I think there is such an opportunity for everyone to capture the beauty around them and memorialize it. Which makes an art of one’s entire life.

    xx,

    Merci, ça m’a beaucoup plu ! !

  • Aaahhh, I loved the video, Garance! You know, I feel like people get crazy about the equipment, but it’s really the shot, the lighting, the proximity, and the creativity that matters when you take a photograph. I think people don’t see themselves as photographers- that you have to have a big camera and experience to call yourself one.

  • This was really inspiring! I’m spending my Sunday sick on the couch, and I wish I had hours of Pardon My French to watch. Firstly, the point about getting uncomfortably close is great! The best photos are when you feel like you’ve invaded something you maybe shouldn’t have. I can’t wait to try it with my photos this week. Secondly, Scott placing his hand in front to find the light was really helpful. (Mais oui, your relationship is so refreshing. #powercouple #sassy #dreamteam). Lastly, I am looking up Laura’s instagram account the second I post this. I could follow her instead of some of the ‘cute puppies!!!’ accounts…It’s like the in and out rule for clothes. Follow one, unfollow two

  • I laughed a lot in this Pardon My French. This video is so inspiring.
And i like it there’s no taboos on the medium used to photograph (professional camera versus Insta.)
Lots of love from Beirut, Lebanon

  • bella bella bella! :D

  • Simply brilliant! I would love to embed this on my blog. I want all my clients and readers to know about it.

  • been bored for a while. went searching for some vibes, good or bad, on the ouèbe. found this. graceful personae with sound honey voice fetching good tips from experts. or kinda. made my day. bravo mademoiselle Garance.

  • This episode is really really nice, when will you make an other one ?
