It’s not always easy to bring stuff back from your travels that’s able to pass the test once you’ve gotten back home. I’m a licensed expert at bringing back the weirdest stuff, especially wicker baskets, and the kind of wicker baskets that take up tons of space. Absolutely impossible to compact them. And then it costs me millions of dollars in excess baggage fees because it counts as an extra bag, and in the end, I just end up tossing it in the airport as the basket itself was only 8 dollars.
My friend Ashley is exactly the opposite. She wears tons of stuff that she got from various trips. Like in this photo, her bags and her jewelry (chic AND compact, ahah). How cool is the little bag?
So much so that she made it a part of her job. She works for L-atitude, an amazing online fashion shop put together by her globe-trotter friend Alisa who shops around the world. Things like this awesome bag from Bogota. I just love the concept.
It goes without saying that Ashley is the queen of the haggle and this weekend we went with a few friends to Brimfield, a flea festival (C’mon now, A FLEA FESTIVAL ahaha! I’m imagining fleas jumping every which way -So we’ll just say it’s a giant flea-market that happens three times a year, three hours outside of New York, and voilà, it’s called Brimfield) and we haggled prices like crazy. If you want, I’ll pass along our unstoppable techniques to break the flea-market.
We came back with tons of stuff, which is good considering it’s been almost a year since I got here to New York and I haven’t had any time at all to think about the decor in our apartment which, before Brimfield, consisted of little more than my bike.
Should I stop with my life story or should I show yo some of my purchases?
(Side note… I hope you appreciate the creativity of my titles. Well. It’s not like you can spend an entire week-end flea-marketing AND be creative with your titles. Okay… Sorry. Ha! Big hugs!)

Ahhh la négoc…j’ai ça dans le sang, ben oui j’ai grandi au Maroc :) c’est un peu le sport national la bas, un art de vivre, si tu négocie pas le vendeur peut même se vexer !!!!
c’est un jeu entre le vendeur et l’acheteur, le vendeur gonfle le prix et l’acheteur négocie jusqu’au prix juste “plus ou moins” hein des fois ont se fait avoir hein, mais c’est le jeu….je m’égare, je m’égare.. tous ça pour dire que d’une un festival de puces ça doit être très festif :D et que le petit sac qui vient de Bogota est une petite merveille :)

J’adore parce que chaque jour lorsque j’ouvre ta page je me dis: OMG, quelle beauté/grâce/classe! Aujourd’hui ne faisant pas exception à la coutume…
Pour ce qui est du dilemne du retour de voyage, je compatis complétement; j’ai une politique depuis quelques années d’essayer de ramener (beaucoup) moins de choses mais plus joli (même si plus cher) et que je puisse intégrer à mon quotidien, qu’il s’agisse de déco (j’ai décidé d’insister là dessus) ou de vêtements d’où panier/boite (pliable :-p) indonésien, boite à incrustion en nacre cambodgien, tissus divers et variés ikhat, kilim, soieries, bogolan (une bonne piste selon moi ça se plie et ça met facilement un coup de fouet à ta déco)… Je reviens de Norvège avec une (seule!!) écharpe et je l’aime. Du coup le temps sinistre français au retour n’a presque pas de prise sur moi (je suis équipée)…
Sinon pour les conseils de négoce: carrément oui (je suis très très médiocre; j’essaie de toujours me rappeler qu’il doit s’agir d’un jeu, mais quand même…
Quant aux meubles: carrément oui aussi…

I live for Brimfield. I couldn’t go this month (went this past may), but my mother and her boyfriend went for the day last wednesday and said it was just ok. For future ref, if you’re ever back in the area, May is the best time to go! July and Sept are just too hot!

Mouarf 1 sur le syndrôme je rapporte un truc inrapportable à la maison (en fait chuis pareil shame on meee)
Mouarf 2 fois pour le festival de puces. L’image de pleins de bidules sautillant est charmante en y ajoutant 2/3 détails plus gores ce serait hilarant (gore n’est peut-être pas l’adjectif le plus approprié pour garantir de ma santé mentale…)

Actually Garancé, maybe she bought the bag in BOGOTÁ, but those are only made by the wayuu community in La Guajira. So it probably comes from that exact place.
