I really liked this Louis Vuitton collection – almost like those things you’re not allowed to like…
Especially as a friend of mine jumped on me after the show to tell me how revolted she was by the fetish and severe aspects of the collection – the references to The Night Porter took her thoughts to places much darker than the ones I experienced during the show. I didn’t say anything.
I liked the clothes, I liked the accessories and Marc Jacobs’ sense of humor, the handcuffs evoking the fetishist love some women have for fashion accessories. And the delight with which some of them submit themselves to a discipline they believe fashion imposes.
I liked the mise-en-scène, those beautiful escalators going up and down with each model and their super chic operators. And I liked the casting.
I liked seeing Kate Moss on the catwalk, nonchalant, cigarette in hand, not so young anymore, but just as scandalous and larger-than-life.
She reminded me of Jeanne Moreau, of forgotten movie stars, and that lost mystery.

I cannot say I loved it . . . but there are elements that I like — such as the sequined dress in your first photo. And the skirts that looked like they were made of scales.
c’est tellement sublime, créatif, chic… comme une petite part de rêve à chaque fois. “En vrai” ce doit être terrible !!!

Ahah Garance! tu vas sourire …mais je suis de l’avis de ton amie, en tout cas les mêmes pensées m’ont traversé l’esprit! Cette collection m’a laissé un sentiment très mitigé :)
Juste un mot, ce n’est pas dans mes habitudes de corriger les fautes d’orthographe d’un tel ou d’une telle, d’autant plus que j’en fait aussi régulièrement! ;) …mais je crois qu’il y a une faute à ” …Portier de Nuit l’aillant portée …” je crois que c’est “ayant” … si je me trompe oublie ce que je viens d’écrire :p

not my favorite show of the season and i really don’t like those furry sleeves, but i didn’t think it was all that shocking and i like some of the silhouettes and the use of materials.
would’ve been a disaster if one of the handcuffed models would’ve fallen/tripped on the runway; how would she have gotten up? =)

It is my favorite show this season! I love how it clearly shows that they are having fun! Marc Jacobs was having fun! It’s refreshing and so well done!

parce que c’est vrai,un défilé c’est avant tout des vêtements mais derrière il y a un lieu et c’est toujours vachement cohérent et je t’avoue que ça m’interesse toujours de savoir où ils défilent.

I completely agree with you and like that you did not succumb to the peer pressure of criticising a collection because of some perhaps ill-timed references. I thought a lot of designers we expect to see more edge from played it safe this season (i.e., Muiccia, among others) and it was refreshing to see Marc Jacobs continuing to push the envelope with his collections both for Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs.

Kate Moss’s face has shown the ravages of smoking (and who knows what else) for the past few years. I guess it catches up with one at some point, especially with someone of delicate beauty. I just cannot get used to that slightly swollen, older look, although she is still more beautiful than 99% of the population. I do like the fact that she flaunts expectations – although I guess it’s easier when you’re gorgeous and rich! As for the clothes, Jacobs is as decadent as ever. Talented as he is, I hate the way he whips us around from season to season, as if to say: “Did you buy some of the Vuitton clothes (or knock-offs) from last season? Because now the joke is on you and they are completely out of style!”
Those handcuffs are superb!!! I’d love to own them!

Ah ça me fait penser à Portier de Nuit. Et Kate Moss avec sa clope, fallait le faire, je ne fume plus mais c’est marrant. Cela dit, même si j’avais l’argent pour, j’espère que je résisterais à acheter des vêtements Louis Vuitton (ou sacs d’ailleurs) aussi beaux soient-ils.
The show itself was quite a spectacle. It get’s a 100 for entertainment value. I, too, enjoyed the slightly naughty value the clothing had but have to admit , outside of the bedroom, where does it translate? What I die for are the shoes. Especially the
stappy cord boots he featured through the show – especially striking on Kate. I featured this look on my blog post:

I do like this collection! For some reason Marc Jacobs is like Miuccia Prada and Phoebe Philo in my mind, I find something to like in whatever they put out, season after season.

Honestly I really liked it too. Not every look of course, but overall I was a fan. I thought the set was beautiful and romantic in a dark way. I understand why some people would be bothered with the reference, especially in this tumultuous season- but I did like it too.

I think the collection in itself is okay, not one of the best of the season, but Jacobs always knows how to create a cohesive collection with a specific inspiration which makes his shows entertaining. But I thought that Kate Moss smoking while doing the runway, was tacky and frankly not cool at all, which I guess they were aiming for..

Artistically it’s okay. But I think knowing the concepts probably come from males makes this collection disturbing. Maybe I’m a feminist who do not believe in the concept of sexual liberation. I guess only to certain extent.
Some women believes that sexuality pushes the feminist women forward but I think otherwise.
Oh, and I do not believe in those cigarettes.
Public Health works so hard to reverse that trend, but I guess the fashion world still refuses to cooperate or are too”cool” to do so.
aaaaah, c’est sympa d’avoir un mot gentil pour notre kate, qui a notre non plus super jeune âge et un magnétisme absolument fascinant.
et sinon j’aime ce virement de louis vuitton: d’une collection tout sucre et poupée d’antan à une collection femme aggressive, noire et désespérement sexy.

Can I love the reasons we aren’t supposed to like this?
Because I do, almost as much as the collection itself. I find the purple fur and red patent boots refreshing. Everything else I see lately is too light and airy for right now, too much like denial.
I thought it an interesting inclusion of black balloons, which have been recently used as symbolic images to demonstate to Austalians how much carbon emissions each household emits each year from their homes. Whether this was the idea, it certainly reminded me of the issue, M Jacobs raising awareness subconsciously for environmental change. Ha ha well done.
