Studio Picks: Met Gala 2016
8 years ago by
The Met Gala is considered the fashion industry’s biggest night out!
Hosted by Anna Wintour, Jony Ive, Idris Elba, Taylor Swift, and Nicolas Ghesquière. This years theme is based on The Costume Institute’s Spring 2016 exhibition, Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology, which explores how fashion designers are reconciling the handmade and the machine-made. Here at the studio, we are fans of both technology and fashion, some more into fashion and others into technology.
Check out our favorite looks from the studio below and you can clearly see the divide.
What was your favorite look?
Elle: Lauren Santo Domingo would be my choice! She is perfectly dressed for the theme and still looks herself. Tricky because often times it can look like a costume!
Emily: The Olsen twins! Because they DGAF (don’t give a f*!k).
Erik: Claire Danes! It lights up!!!!
Brie: Julie Macklowe – despite not knowing who she is, I love that she committed so hard to the theme. Honorable mentions: Brie Larson and LSD for their silvery-ness.
Natalie: Alexa Chung because I could never wear anything that remotely resembled that suit (no, really).
Amanda: Katie Holmes! Simple, beautiful and easy.
Zac Posen, brillant. Sindirella Claire :) love this dress and balmain dresses.
For me Claire Danes won because she looked like a Disney princess that shined in the dark. And that’s really cool and my inner child loved it (plus the neckline was stunning) However I didn’t like her makeup and hair very much.
Alexa Chung is also a big favourite, even though I don’t see the relation betweeen the theme and the outfit. But I don’t mind because she is Alexa Chung and I adore her and she can do whatever she wants and it’s fine by me.
Oh, and special mention to Louise Parker and her little black dress!

E.

Katie Holmes c’est une blague un peu. La robe est certes très belle mais les cheveux on dirait The Ring.
Alexa looked great! I liked some other dresses, but, honestly, when you scroll through all of the red carpet photos, you realize just how badly 90% of the people are dressed, lol. Met Gala honestly reminds me of a Halloween party rather than of a ball these days!

Katie Holmes’ makeup is just gorgeous.
There were a lot of beautiful dresses. My favorites def the Balmain Army, Anna Ewers, Elle Fanning, Beyoncé in that great latex gown (though her face looked different than usual) and Anna Wintour but Claire did top it all. I loved the meticulous cut, the tulle, the color and that it glowed but one couldn’t make out the lights before it was lit.
The best dressed males were the ones in Tom Ford and I liked Jaden Smith.
Naomi Watts in Burberry all the way!
“The Olsen twins, because they DGAF”, I loved it????
Claire Danes looks amazing! Glowing, really.

Julie Macklowe is a technology venture capitalist, very impressive in such a male dominated sector
Honestly in this year most of celebs’ outfits were awful but few of them looked stunning ! I love Alexa’s outfit, Zoe Saldana in D&G looked amazing, Lady Gaga rocked it as always, Suit Squad ( aka Jenna Lyones, Jennifer Konner and Lena Dunham) like The Olsen twins – DGAF !! And my fav…Clarie Danes…damn…amazing dress !!! I still cannot stand, why ppl like Kardashians and Jenners or “models” like Hailey Baldwin or Hadid sisters were invited to MET…Nowdays fashion is so commercial and this makes me sad :(
Great post dear! ;)
