It’s time…

As much as we all like to avoid it, it’s getting warmer. And warm = sun = outdoors = water = beach = SWIMSUITS.
There are approximately 2,309 things I would rather do than try on a swimsuit right now.
The light in the fitting rooms alone is enough to make you want to crawl back into a parka. However, this year, I’m going to buy a new swimsuit. Which might not seem like a big deal, but I haven’t purchased a swimsuit since…oh…freshman year of college? THAT WAS A LONG TIME AGO.
I’m looking to the new swim collection from Hermés for inspiration on my quest. I love the simplicity and clean lines of these suits, not to mention they are super sexy without showing too much skin.

I have a beach vacation coming up in just a few weeks, so I had to start bathing suit shopping in what felt like the middle of winter, ha! (Slight exaggeration, but still, I was cold!) I found these:

NO! I have a whole drawer full of unfortunately for me, mostly bikinis. A lot are those little dental floss ones from having lived in Brasil, some Gottex (where were my fave) and a few ordered from the Victoria’s Secret Catalogue (when I used to order because the models looked good in them – shame). And then I even sold some bathing suits on my website not too long ago. I couldn’t part with one leopard print Monokini with cutouts – so sexy. But just got back from a 2 month holiday – NONE of them will look good right now. Bad timing but aren’t the retro kind coming back in style which cover most of the body?

I love summer but wearing a swimsuit scares me to the point where I only go swimming in the pool of my best friend or in a bath where I don’t know anyone. I don’t feel comfortable in my own skin due to being overweight, let alone in a swimsuit!

Ne m’en parle pas, je me plonge dans les différentes collections, ces jours-ci… Mais comme je ne suis pas très courageuse, je me contente pour l’instant de regarder les beaux maillots depuis mon ordinateur ou ma tablette. Comme ça, pas de souci d’essayage ! (Quelque chose me dit que je joue la politique de l’autruche…)

Je m’occuperai du maillot dès que j’aurai fini le “30 day shred” de Jillian Michaels…
Enfin, seulement si ça a fonctionné. Sinon, j’abandonne le maillot et je reste dans ma parka (et je boude).

J’y suis allée cet aprèm’, à la plage. Toute première sortie de l’année !
Je porte toujours des bikini triangle avec le bas de de forme brésilienne (pas des strings non plus, il ne faut pas exagérer !). Tout simples, unis noirs ou blancs. Je n’ai que ça depuis quelques années et ça me convient parfaitement. Ca va avec tout et pas de prise de chou lorsqu’il s’agit de savoir avec quel maillot assortir sa tenue pour aller à la plage. Bon, j’admets, que ce type de bikini exige que l’on prenne grand soin de ses fesses et de ses abdos toute l’année. Mais ça vaut le coup, je trouve. Et ça m’oblige à garder des fessiers en béton.
Ce que je reproche à la plupart des bikinis, c’est le fait que les culottes sont trop couvrantes. Il est très difficile de trouver un maillot à la fois un peu classy et dont la culotte soit suffisamment échancrée sur la moitié des fesses. Du coup, je m’en tiens à mes bikinis brésiliens que j’achète pour trois fois rien. Je les choisis les plus simples et sobre possibles, sans aucune fioritures, ce qui est nécessaire avec une coupe sexy.
Pendant longtemps, j’ai été embarrassée par le choix du soutien-gorge du maillot. Ayant plutôt pas mal de poitrine, il y a des coupes que je ne pouvais vraiment, mais vraiment pas me permettre de porter. J’aurais rêvé de coupes un peu travaillées. Mais cela est la plupart du temps réservé aux poitrines menues. Alors j’ai choisi une bonne fois pour toutes le modèle triangle. Basic. C’est ce qui convient le mieux lorsque l’on a de la poitrine. Dans ce cas, mieux vaut choisir un triangle tout simple, qui se noue avec des ficelles plutôt qu’une forme type dos-nu qui a tendance à grossir la poitrine.

However my go to bathing suit company is Marysia. I love love their bathing suits. They aren’t itsy bitsy, have a bit of a retro vibe. The material is also not really traditional bathing suit material which gives it a luxe feel.

I’d love to read a conversation about swimsuits; there’s a lot to discuss! What’s a reasonable price for a swimsuit that is practical to actually swim in, but also really cute? Why is it that the one’s with the cutest prints aren’t wearable for girls with boobs? I know Garance has mentioned her love of Eres swimsuits, and they are so classy, but I can’t justify spending $300+ for something that is supposed to go through a lot of wear with salt water and chlorine and activity. That said, my favorite two pieces have been from J. Crew and I have a one piece from Chaiken that I love wearing.
I *thought* I was ready, but these suits are making me look again at my beloved Eres numbers and thinking I could try something new. I suspect you may have earned Hermes a little bit of my money just now. Happy shopping!

swimsuits…. yes, definitely a love / hate relationship here. so beautiful when done right (e.g., a tasteful white one-piece I’ve been dreaming about), so unforgiving if you drank wine and ate chocolate all winter! I’m getting ready to attend a friend’s destination wedding in a month, which will definitely involve swimsuits (ok, not at the actual wedding! just the other wedding retreat activities ;) and I may have been working just as hard as the bride to reverse the winter wine + chocolate damage. If anything will do it, it’s physique 57 (I hope…)

Living in LA, you’re sort of inspired to stay ready, but the couple of months before swimsuit season officially begins you kick the workout into high gear. I recently started taking hot yoga classes in addition to my regular gym routine, and it’s kicking my ass. The heat makes me pour sweat like a waterfall! I hope my efforts make rocking a swimsuit a little less painful this season ;) That being said, I always try to remind myself that we are our own worst critics. Good luck, Alex. No, I’m not nearly ready! But there aren’t any beaches near me, anyhow. I did by a new bathing suit for the first time in years. But it’s only for water classes at the gym. Because I hurt my knee. Not exactly fun.

I have been living in SE Asia the past 1 1/2 years. It is always summer and you always need swimsuit(s). One thing I have noticed I have developed a huge appreciation for the maillot, one-piece suit. It is super elegant and a change from seeing everyone in a bikini. Buy more than one suit this season! Enjoy.

I’m never ready for a swimsuit! Men are sooo visual, it’s scary. Yes, I don’t care that much, but still when you know their nature, it is a little intimidating to walk around strangers that you know for sure objectify you. At 30, after two kids, I can finally say that I’m ok with the way I look and that is very good for my peace of mind. Still, I’m a realist, and people can be cruel, so a swimsuit will always be not my favorite thing.
What really gets me, though, is that where I live, it is full of girls with perfect bodies, it’s the genetics!, so if you guys see me, you would probably say something like – blahh she is a hypocrite, her body is amazing, what is she talking about – but still here everyone is used to seeing model bodies all the time, everywhere, and most men are eager to tell you what your body lacks in “proper” proportions. It’s a shame!
HELLOOO, à Alger il fait genre 25° donc la plage ça fat deja un moment qu’on y est ! mon envie du moment c’est un maillot de bain bien blanc , un panier de plage enfin chez nous c’est une Kouffa et un foulard de plage assez long pour se transformer en robe et le bonus une peau bien bronzée …
L’été passé je suis allée aux Canaries et donc j’ai dû me trouver un maillot! My God! Bon… J’ai mis 3 mois à trouver le bon. Qui fait un superbe poitrine alors que j’ai des petits seins … avec une culotte sexy mais qui monte un peu sur le ventre pour éviter l’affreux effet “cèpes”… Avec un tissu de qualité qui gaine bien. J’ai trouvé le miracle. Ce n’est pas une marque connu et je l’ai payé 80 €. Il a tenu sa promesse. Même mon mari qui n’est pas du tout mode a remarqué qu’il m’allait bien. Mas c’est vrai que passé 25 ans acheter un maillot est une épreuve! Courage!

Life goes on and that’s it … let’s not make a drama, embrace womanhood and yes go and do it…. the good thing is that you will probably never see you worst after this, so …. all good from now on…. Well, like every year I’m certainly NOT ready for the beach, but oh what can I do :). I gotta find a pair of the most flattering swimsuit (if they exist) and just hit the beach. No worries, no frustrations. Free spirits ;)!

Bon, Garance, je habite à São Paulo, Brésil… et ici nous avons beaucoup d’options pour acheter des maiollots de bain. Parmi les filles brésiliènnes les bikinis sont une espèce de manie: la plupart de mes copines ont une immense collection!!!! C’est une folie (ou obsession…).
Perso, je déteste l’épreuve du bikini et du maillot, j’évite à tout prix les acheter… Enfin, mes marques préférées sont Adriana Degreas e Lenny Niemeyer. Regardez-les sur les sites, ils sont vraiments beaux! beijinhos

J’ai acheté un maillot il y a 2 ans.
Il est comme la première photo et toujours beau.
Mais le problème c’est ma taille B.W.H.. En effet B et H inchangés, mais le chiffre W a augmenté, de coup quand je le mets, c’est comme si j’ai un tambour sur moi ! Donc, cette année, je vais chercher un maillot avec un effet spécial qui puisse créer une image “La taille de guêpe” !

Moi je suis super Fan des maillots ERES depuis des années, et aussi plus récemment de Mara Hoffman avec ses imprimés ethniques. Pour les accessoires j’ai découvert une petite marque Corse qui s’appelle Chjocca, vas voir le site http://www.chjocca.com c’est hyper astucieux, chic et les couleurs sont peps pour l’été! Like you, my body/mentality isn’t really ready for swimsuit season. But if I was…I’m totally loving the simple suits, especially the one piece ones. I use to love the super fun and colourful bikinis, but as I grow older, I find myself straying away from those and looking for the cleaner and simple look.
