The Edit No. 6 / Part. 4 – Flower Power

7 years ago by

I love seeing the first signs of spring around the city. The budding tulips in the park and cherry blossoms just starting to peek out in their fresh shades of pink. It marks the most noticeable changing of seasons and has a way of changing your perspective on the world around you. Our Edit today featuring the lovely Calu, is an ode to Earth month, a colorful send off into May, with an enduring trend that I’ve only come to love more and more: florals!

You might think that flower prints season after season could be dull, but what they really inspire is a sense of positivity. Once prominently embraced by hippies, almost 60 years later they are still referenced as a symbol of protest with the term “flower power” – and the power of the flower print is stronger than ever.

Seen in over 1300 iterations on the runways, the variations ranged from subtle appliqués to looks permeated with wild florals head-to-toe. Flowers can be so many things, retro and refreshingly modern, bohemian and handsome, in your face bold and barely-there subdued – take comfort knowing there are no rules and no one way to wear them this season.

And then there is Calu, an Argentinian actress and activist, who was the perfect muse for this story. She has a personal and passionate mission to help protect the planet and use her influence for good. Her beauty is only enhanced by the brightly saturated magenta, sapphire, and geranium colored frocks she wears in today’s Edit. Needless to say, she might be the entire Atelier’s newest girl crush.

So! How do we wear florals this spring / summer? With light denim jeans, strappy heels that lace up the ankle, casual sweatshirts to downplay the girlish charm, and of course, perhaps a bit of an impish look to counterbalance all the sweetness happening.

  • Very inspiring edit! Especially loved seeing something like the Banana Republic pants at the end paired with Celine. Gorgeous.

Oh, how I remember the “Flower Power” days, 50 years ago (not 60)
The flower print on the Proenza top in the b&w photo bears a more than passing resemblance to
Mary Quant’s ( British designer ) iconic daisy logo of the 60’s.

I had a sky blue, mini shirt dress, with an overall print of the daisy in lime green. I wore it with lime green fishnets and nude coloured suede open, lace up shoes. I was 17and felt beautiful.

    Thanks for the memory.

  • Flower Power is alive and well this S/S17 season. You’ve made some great choices here. I love ?? Proenza Schouler dress ,it is a great summer piece and who doesn’t love that fabulous Prada look .
