Fran & Jackie
7 years ago by
I’m obsessed with Fran Miller’s line of skincare, F. Miller. Turns out, I’m also obsessed with her personal style. And the personal style of her stylist fiancé, Jackie McKeown. Really just obsessed with the two of them overall, but maybe I’m biased that they’re from my homeland of Toronto. Either way, here they are, in what might be our first ever joint three looks? Yeah!
Describe your style in 3 words.
Fran: Comfortable, minimal, diverse.
Jackie: Laid back, tomboy, detailed.
What is your ideal uniform to wear every day?
Fran: Oversized or straight-leg denim, a white tee, sculptural earrings and some form of mule/slide.
Jackie: A trouser or sport pant, oversized top and one of many pairs of sneakers in our closet.
What’s the best piece of style advice you’ve ever received?
Fran: Quality over quantity.
Jackie: Dress for yourself.
Do you have a fashion muse?
Fran: I’m inspired by so many different women, past and present – Joan Didion, Jane Birkin, Lauren Hutton, Patti Smith, 90s Kate Moss, Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, Maryam Nassir Zadeh, Annina Mislin, and Mari Giudicelli.
Jackie: I’m mainly drawn to men’s fashion and love the style of people like Simon Rasmussen (Office Mag) and Matthew Williams (Alyx). I also have a strong appreciation for women that can rock a tailored look like Diane Keaton. Most of my inspiration comes from everyday people, generally those with no interest in fashion but who still put themselves together in unique, unexpected ways.
How does living in Toronto influence the way you approach style?
Jackie: Weather has to be the biggest factor when it comes to Toronto style. Winters can be brutally cold, snowy and wet, so footwear and outerwear becomes limited. I really try to take advantage of all four seasons and get creative when it comes to layering and jackets.
Fran: I feel like Torontonians like to talk about the weather a lot but it’s true – the challenge for me is choosing transitional pieces that are still polished and comfortable. And a really good coat. Toronto is a metropolis but there is a very laid back aspect to it as well so you’re never boxed in to one specific style. I generally dress for my mood or what I’m doing that day.
Where is this beautiful bag from? Simon Miller?
Hi DD!
That bag was actually found at a random boutique in Soho, NY and was made by a Korean designer. I’m sorry I can’t remember the name of the designer or boutique, it was a very spur of the moment find!

Awesome chicks. Toronto is a great town for laid-back style… even more so, IMO, than L.A. Jackie is my new muse!
Seeing these two Canadian girls gives me the idea that maybe cultures and regions and countries have their own style . As a Canadian I recognize that laid back ease that is present! Just food for thought.

Love Fran’s Bag!! xx, Jorinna
On accepte les commentaires en français à l’atelier ? Bien le bonjour ! Or… Good afternoon ! Oui ! Oui !
Love hearing someone talk about the necessary of practical footwear in a Canadian winter! Even in Vancouver, the streets are so wet and sloppy that I end up feeling not put together day in and day out just because of how I have to dress to get by!
This blog was very interesting ;)
