My mom and Scott have one thing in common : They love pocket squares.
They’re both do this same thing : When I have one foot out the door, they tell me to hang on two seconds, and then they go sifting through their collection of little silk squares, and over they come with some trick of the hands, some folds and pulls to make a nice ruffle and then they stuff it into the little pocket of my jacket. Then they look at it with a satisfied smile, and give me a kiss.
Okay okay, I’ll stop with my exagerated description. They do it sometimes.
It took me way too long, but now I think it’s the chicest thing, and also it reminds me a gesture of love. Yeah yeah, I should say that I saw Bianca Jagger and Lauren Hutton doing it too and it doesn’t take much more than that for me to think it’s the classiest thing ever.
So I can tell you that as soon as I saw Jennifer on the street yesterday, I jumped to take her picture!

Love her sunglasses.
I never use my pocket squares, but it s so smart, I should !

http://www.superbytimai.com
FASHION ICON: Nicole RICHIE http://magmoiselle.fr
this girl is a real beauty ! she looks incredibly chic !

Love the white blazer with the polka dot handkerchief. :) A chic choice for this summer.
Mioara Roncea

I love the photo! The glasses are so cool :)
I’m not a fan of pocket squares though, but maybe it’s because I don’t know how to wear them.
I’ve never really given them much thought, big mistake
omg!!! CHICISSIMO!!!

Le grand retour du plissé Hermès??? http://www.fut-il.com
Just beautiful! The photo, the light, the girl and the pocket square!!
Boaahhhh, Garance, this totally made me jump to the MrPorter website in a I-need-a-pocket-square-RIGHT-NOW-frenzy, only to realize that I have no idea how to use those things :-) Maybe you, or Scott, or your mother could teach some tricks! (I can only find super conservative ways to fold them online, nothing that looks even close to the way the pocket square is worn in the picture you took of Jennifer)
Love the head scarf/band….what is it and where is it from!
Very cute. I’ve never thought to wear one. However, it does make this white jacket look more “day time”. It’s a good idea.

You’re right, it is so chic! Just a tiny little thing on the jacket, that can make a difference! Beautiful photo!
White jacket and that blue “rose” on the side! Very nice detail!
Oh Garance, I’m so glad you wrote this post! My dear Dad passed away almost 10 years ago and I got my love of fashion from him. He was a real satorialist, always paying attention to details like cufflinks and pocket squares. Other than his watch and signet ring, I don’t have anything of his to wear on a regular basis — until you just reminded me of his pocket squares that I’ve kept in my scarf drawer, occasionally wearing one at my neck with a sweater. I’m definitely going to start wearing them as they were meant to be worn. What a wonderful way to bring along a bit of my father on my adventures! Merci beaucoup, ma chere ami!
xo,
Jane
ce côté désuet me plaît
c’est devenu si rare
l’élégance discrète
la dignité du rituel
le charme de dire
“donner un baiser”
ça sonne comme une pochette.
I think she looks just like Alexa Chung !
Beautiful, classy & effortless
<3
now, i will wear a pocket square this week! such simple elegance.

thank you ,I learned the pocket squares is very useful item for me!
What a great idea! I’d never thought of doing it myself, though I have no idea why! Definitely going to have to try this out soon. Thanks!

Ha! Thought I was the only odd-ball girl to do this. Been collecting them for years. Just like striped tees they are suddenly easy to find again…
Thanks for the lovely photo!

Love her attention to detail! I’ve never owned a pocket square in my life, but I do have a ridiculous number of scarves, perhaps I can do some folding magic with some of the smaller ones and try this out? Ahh, who am I kidding? I can barely wear scarves as they are meant to be worn, I think I am missing that gene!
Tres Jolie! I also love the way she wears the scarf in her hair! I will try this!
I love this! it never occurred to me to wear a pocket square but I’m happy to give yet another use to all my silk scarves! Lovely photo!

Where are her sunglasses from? I love them!! I want a pair.
First things first. Lovely photo, woman, and outfit. But then, so glad to see you have some sun in NYC. Perhaps it will find its way north to Boston, where I am literally shivering at my desk on a dank, drizzly day.
Thanks, Garance, for a ray of sunshine that is so much more!
Garance – How did you manage?
You actually travelled to the future and took a picture of Alex Chung’s 36 year old self.
So cute! And I love that she pulled off both the pocket square and the turban…
I’d like to know about her head scaRF, DID SHE TIE IT OR IS IT A READY MADE HEAD PIECE?
Gorgeous – turning a simple classic into simply chic! Beautiful image.

lovely photo Garance. I never really thought of a pocket square as a women’s accessory but it looks so chic

Wish I could pull off a pocket square! Love those sunglasses :)

Wonderful shot! She looks fabulous, and although the pocket square is a nice touch, I think it’s the head scarf and aviators that make the look. Love it.

Les lunettes, le turban, la pochette : SUPERBE !
http://percymode.wordpress.com/

I love how her scarf is tied, interlocking at the front. I wonder if it is two scarves looped/linked together and tied at the back?
Love love love this pocket square idea! I definitely need to find myself some. Also dig the headscarf.
A PERFECT look–but now we are all left wondering how to make a feminine pocketsquare and how to use scarves as head-wear! My hair is really slippery, and scarves just fall out, no matter how tightly I tie them….
You should do a post on creative ways to use scarves, with directions on how to tie them :-)
The expression on her face is wonderful.
Oh, these little details make all the difference. That’s a great look! Love the idea of a pocket square.
she reminds me of alexa chung! im sure shes heard that before

Ooh, I just adore this picture (and entire post) Garance! I love the little tale of them coming over and ‘finishing you off’ with a silk pocket square. And this girl looks so chic in the way she wears it herself.
Thanks for sharing!
