You know it: I loooooove white shirts. I love them, I never get tired of them and last season, when I saw them popping everywhere on the runway I was all: get ready this is going to be my season. (There was also a lot of cropped tops on the runway and I was all: this is gonna be a tough season).
Here are three most important facts about the white shirt that make it awesome:
– It’s versatile and can be worn from a lazy Sunday to a red carpet ( if you’re Sharon Stone, all right?).
– It works with everything and even with nothing – a little bit longer, and it’s a perfect dress!
– It’s perfect to cover up in in the summer. My shooting outfit for summer is always an oversize white painters shirt: it protects my arms from the sun (not 100%, I still have to put sunscreen!) and I stay cool.
So, now everything I’ve see on the runway is in the stores and it’s time for action – we made a little selection of our favorites.
Mine is definitely the Junya one with the fringes. Which one do you prefer ?

Funny that you should be writing about this, Garance. Today, I am eagerly awaiting my new arrival from Anne Fontaine. She does this shirt in both white and black called a Nuage that I love. The body and sleeves are a light pima cotton with poplin collar and French cuffs. I also love Brooks Brothers no-iron cotton version for when you want to look like you’re borrowing your guy’s shirt. White shirts are almost like black shoes…so many different styles!
Aaaaaah la chemise blanche! Je ne m’en lasse pas! Et celle de la première photo avec le détail du col est juste géniale! Je craque complètement <3
On a toutes en tête aussi la référence d’Ines de la Fressange, qui les associe avec des maxi boucles d’oreilles hyper féminines !

On adore les chemises blanches, mais pour qu’elles soient belles, elles doivent rester impeccables. Alors laquelle résiste au moins une demi-journée sans se froisser, that’s the question ?
C’est une base de ma garde-robe ! J’en porte tout le temps et je ne m’en lasse pas … depuis des années. Cette année, j’ai privilégié les chemises hyper fluides, idéales car on ne les repasse pas ;-)
Stella et Downtown ! la mise en page est vraiment top !!! je viens de découvrir … eh oui … chui un peu beaucoup la tortue … bref en lisant la magnifique bio d’Azzédine Alaïa de Laurence Benaïm qu’il fait de sublisssimes chemises blanches et que Franca Sozzani en a 150 !!! Boudiou elles doivent être vraiment impeccablement coupées. je vais aller voir.

With the slightly longer back.
Perfect crisp white cotton.
Really, they are worth their money.
Acne looking good, but will falter once one feels the fabric, as usual. Their design is topnotch, their material like from Zara.
I just bought one with huge cuffs, by Givenchy! It is already my favourite!

I like shirts but rarely wear them because I have to iron the darn things. So I iron my shirt and leave it in the cupboard. My husband sends his shirts out and I tried to include mine in a batch of his. But they pulled it out, said it was a woman’s shirt and insisted upon dry cleaning it: about 4 times the price! Makes no sense but there you are.

Hi Garance, are you sure that the “the delicate” is from the Row? On the website it does not seem to be the same shirt (one is open in the front, the other is not).
Etrange, j’en ai une dans ma garde robe et je ne m’en sépare pas car j’entends toujours dire que c’est un “must-have” mais ça doit faire 10 ans que je ne l’ai pas porté. Je ne saurais pas vraiment avec quoi l’associer et je ne me sens pas très à l’aise dedans, contrairement à un tee-shirt !

J’aime beaucoup le petit détail cœur sur le col de la première ! Moi aussi je suis une grande inconditionnelle des chemises blanches, mais en trouver une parfaite est vraiment beaucoup plus compliqué qu’il n’y paraît !

Delicate et classic are my favorite. J’aime beaucoup les chemises bleues aussi. J’ai le teint pâle et la chemise blanche me donne parfois une mine d’hôpital alors qu’un joli bleu clair réveille le teint et apporte ce petit côté masculin que j’aime pour dédramatiser les tenues.
Je porterai ma chemise blanche plus souvent quand elle arrêtera de se froisser: on a un deal, elle et moi.
Il n’empêche qu’elle est bien jolie: style 18eme, avec sa lavallière, achetée dans une boutique de costumes de théâtre. Un brin too much parfois…

Love these shirts and they are great for inspiration…but would you ever consider doing posts featuring pieces a bit more in the student budget? Maybe its not really the target audience of the blog, but I was just wondering. For now I will have to settle for sewing little white hearts on to my own collar…so sweet! J’adore tout simplement les hauts blancs! C’est simple, ça va avec tout et pour tous les occasions. De plus, je parais toujours bien même pour des journées assez simple comme une journée d’école. Par contre, il faut faire attention pour ne pas se salir au courant de la journée hihi!
This post immediately reminded me of a book artist, Emily Larned, who gave an artist talk I attended a couple weeks ago. Emily and another artist, Roxane Zargham, put together a “lookbook” (if you will) using one white t-shirt. They modeled the shirt 54 different ways using binder clips etc. without ever permanently altering the shirt (cutting the shirt, ripping the shirt, drawing on the shirt etc.) Super cool project, super relevant to classic white t-shirt!

J’ai fait une petite folie l’autre fois; j’ai acheté un chemisier blanc Miu Miu soldé à 50% sur un site internet. Wow la coupe est parfaite et souvent, les produits haut de gamme parlent quand à la coupe et le tissu. Étonnant; j’ai du commander une Xlarge. Je suis plutôt de taille moyenne et quand je vois ces grandeurs en Europe, je me dis que ça force vraiment les femmes à être obsédées par leur poids. Je répète, je suis une femme en santé qui ne fait pas d’embonpoint, seulement juste un peu voluptueuse et en forme. Bref, les bras sont un peu serrés dans cette chemise mais j’ai tellement hâte de la porter avec mes capris beige, un magnifique blouson en cuir noir trouvé dans une braderie de designers québécois à Montréal et de petits souliers Prada (trouvés dans un dépôt-vente à 40 euros). Bon là je suis chiante avec mes marques mais en tous les cas, voilà l’histoire de mon petit chemisier blanc…

The most challenge for any white top is…it will worn out after wore it after 5 times i believe. All those yellow collar and hem. Can’t solve it even dry clean. Any tips how you keep your white outfit?
