Read this : Yara is so cool, at the end of the post you’ll want to be her best friend. I mean I know I do. Big kiss !
Describe your style in a tweet: Urban yet refined, balance of masculine/feminine and minimal.
What is surprising about your style?
I love basketball and sports and also rap music. I grew up in New York and it definitely has a long lasting kind of influence on my personal style.
If you could only pick one, what would be your…
Jean: Uniqlo Ultra Stretch jeans.
Shirt: NOMIA draped front t-shirt. (Eat as much as you want!).
Heel: I don’t do super high heels, but I have a pair of open toe pull-on ankle boots from Opening Ceremony that I have worn for years.
Flat: Chelsea boot from Jil Sander.
Bag: Prada Nylon messenger, it can take a beating!
Lingerie: American Apparel mesh triangle bra.
Lipstick: Morange by MAC.
Mascara: Stila Glamoureyes.
Moisturizer: La Roche-Posay Toleriane Fluide.
Nail Polish: OPI White!
Fragrance: White Suede by Tom Ford.
Shampoo: Brilliant Glossing by Fekkai.
Your daily beauty routine:
Wash: Boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser, Moisturize: Embryolisse, Foundation: Laura Mercier Hydrating Primer and Tinted Moisturizer
Your three best purchases:
1. Muji Weekly Planner
2. Vetiver Candle by Malin & Goetz
3. Saturdays Black Baseball Cap
What is one fashion rule you love break?
I don’t know if this is still something, but I love putting black and navy together. I think that used to be kind of a faux pas but I think it is really cool. Also, white, I don’t think white has any timeline. You can just where it whenever.
Your worst style moment…
The late 80s to early 90s, I would wear big tee shirts with bike shorts. I was 7 or 8 years old, it was definitely popular.
Your best style advice:
It is kind of cheesy but not to really care. If you feel great wearing something, thats really what counts so much more than what you’re actually wearing. It makes whatever you’re wearing kind of work.
What did you want to be when you were 15? Did you always want to design?
I think when I was 15, I wanted to be an English teacher. It wasn’t ever really in my dreams as a child to be a designer. In college, I started experimenting a little bit with it but more in an artistic kind of way. I would incorporate fabric and clothing into my sculptures. When I was maybe 22, I had just finished my first real job out of college working at Prada’s art foundation and it helped me see what was out there and how cool clothing could be. I wanted to be an artist, so it was cool to work for Prada and see how they merged the two together.
How long has your line NOMIA been around?
Five years.
How would you describe the NOMIA girl?
Confident in the sense that she doesn’t think too much about what she’s wearing but more about expressing herself. She has a mix of feminine and masculine, edgy but still classic at the same time.
What kind of music does she listen to?
I hope she listens to everything to be honest. It’s really about mixing and matching trends. For me, one day I’ll be listening to rap and the next jazz. It’s really about how all those diverse influences come together and make something really interesting.
Where does she hang out in the city?
Used to be at Max Fish a long time ago, or that was just me? [Laughs] She likes to dance but she doesn’t want to go to a club. Something that’s fun where she can go and be crazy and dance with her friends.
What does she order at the bar?
She probably gets beer and a shot. She still is rocking like crazy clothes and looking so fashionable and everyone is like “whoa, of course you get a beer, you’re so much cooler than us!”
I want to be that girl!
I know! Everyone wants to be that girl. She’s tough and a tomboy but still the hottest girl. She’s approachable to everyone, to girls and guys.
One of the strangest things in your handbag…
I have a bottle opener on my key chain, just in case. I like to be prepared. There isn’t anything too weird.
What’s your sign?
Sagittarius.
What is your guilty pleasure?
There are so many! It’s so embarrassing I don’t even know if I want to say it… Okay, here is a good one: Solitaire. I can sit there and play for hours. I love it. I have an app on my iPad and I just sit there and lose my mind.
If you could have dinner with any five people, who would you pick?
Kim Gordon, Grace Coddington, Louis CK, Cam’ron, and Tilda Swinton (would definitely be an interesting dinner conversation…).
Who would you want to play you in a film?
Kristen Wiig
The last song you listened to: Pop That by French Montana
The last book you read: The End of Fashion by Teri Agins (oops!)
The last movie you watched: “Magic Mike” with a bunch of girlfriends…so silly.

She s absolutely cool. I went straight away looking at the nomia shirts but… 230$? Not in my budget unfortunately… As much as i love silk shirts they are so damn expensive..
Garance do you have any suggestions for silk shirts that costs around 100$/€?
Well, I’m not Garance, but I do have a suggestion for you … ;) Check Everlane’s silk blouses, gorgeous!!!

Aww I do love her and I think we’re already secretly friends. She’s a cooler, little edgier version of me. Ok maybe not really but kind of. I like that she seems to have a good balance between price points she shops, styles she’s adapted and in her designs- the real woman.

J’aime aussi mettre du noir et du bleu marine… c’est vrai qu’il y a quelques années c’était vraiment considéré comme moche, mais petite jupe bleu sur un blazer homme noir :-) j’adore!

Simple et elegante!
Navy and black! I do that too (after years of avoiding it)! Great interview. Anyone who can appreciate diversity in all forms in their life is cool in my book.
Superbe fille!

Nomia is one of my favorite brands right now.
Yara understands tomboy girls who aren’t anti-feminine she understands it and those basketball inspired shorts are to die for!
