When I discovered Delfina Delettrez’s jewelry, a few years ago, I must have made a funny face : She has the habit of representing everything that gives me the creeps:
– All right. You’re going to find out everything that scares me –
Skulls (yes I know it’s crazy, but I never liked the idea of wearing a thing with a skull on it. Imagine my terror in the last few years ? All these people wearing that… poor me!)
Spiders (I am sure you understand that one)
Eyes (I am kind of a freak when it comes to talking about inside body parts. I just can’t watch a tv show like Dr House. Worse: Nip/Tuck! I really can’t talk about that. Even, you know the people who make their fingers crack ? Ewwwww I don’t say anything but it makes me feel like I am going to faint !)
– Is that weird? –
These symbols being some of Delfina’s favorites, it took me a while to get past that and go see her jewelry.
But each time I would see her during fashion weeks, I would find her style (she wears a lot of vintage and skirts and looks like nobody else) and her presence amazing. And she would always wear a piece of her jewelry, which I always found fascinating.
Anyway, I went there yesterday and loved the way she presented, on those huge and surrealistic wigs. The jewels are incredible, and I loved the big hearts where a piece of her hair or of her daughter are incrusted… You can see the pictures clicking on the arrows.
It reminds me of Carine Roitfeld who said somewhere the she had a phobia of scissors and that looking at her archive she found that she had done a ton of fashion spreads with scissors.
I guess that’s the beauty of creation, understanding what scares us to help us see past reality…

The jewelry is not so creepy as such, the way its is presented reminds me of sad countesses with pale skin and deep red lips and of a marquis with a taste for the obscure.
I like her style too. Black and yellow. Like a bee! (see? insects)

I hate wearing bugs or body parts (except ladybug, dragonfly, butterfly, and <3 shape). As for the skull, it's more like I'm secretly convinced that I'm gonna be jinxed if I wear it and don't want the bad luck than the "urgh, it makes my skin craw" kinda thing.
The wig with hands and eyes coming out are creepy. But I do like the picture of her, so I guess I like her stuff in small doses.

Je me souviens des premières ventes organisées à Rome. Elle y était à la fois très présente et intimidée, un peu en retrait avec sa mère, jamais très loin et manifestement( et à juste titre) très fière du travail de sa fille. Son monde n’est pas différent d’alors, elle le décline juste à chaque sous un autre angle.

Certains bijoux sont superbes. Mais, ce que je retiendrai de ta série de photo, c’est “Wha, il y a donc des gens à qui les vêtements JAUNES vont” (là, c’est même mieux que vont).

It’s always fascinating (and a little bit of a tiny shock) when I discover there are more people using (almost) the same vocabulary as myself in their work but in a totally different way.
I like the brooch with the lips and I like especially the way Delfina looks: that dress! Those shoes!!!
Delfina Delettrez a beaucoup de classe, elle fait très italienne. Je l’aime beaucoup, elle et ses créations.
Love her personal style – I WANT those shoes!! Her jewelry isn’t my taste at all, but I am really fascinated by that presentation.
Impressionnant, un mélange d’attirance et de léger dégoût pour ces pièces étranges. J’adore la manière dont elles sont mises en avant, ces perruques façon science-fiction. Ces bijoux ne laissent pas indifférents et c’est une belle réussite que de générer tant d’émotions, quelles qu’elles soient !

Great post. The wigs with hands kind of creeps me out but that’s “art”. I love art that is so not normal that you just have to love it because it’s beyond a normal person’s brain. If that makes any sense at all. And I adore the heart shaped piece with scissors.

Actually I think it’s all rather creepy. I can hardly look at the wigs with the hands sticking out! I’m always creeped out by things though. Anything vaguely surreal and eyes and creepy wiggly things!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ces bijoux ne sont pas mon style. Par contre, j’adore la manière dont ils sont présentés et la réflexion que ces bijoux ont suscitée chez toi. Qui a dit que la mode n’était que frivolité ;)
oh, I think whoever is doing the presentation of her work (does the designer create the props or someone else is hired to do this) has a great dark sense of humor. it kind of reminds me of Alexander McQueen but mixed in with a little bit of Dali (also maybe little Gillermo del Toro). not to take away from Delphina’s originality but it seems to fit within a subculture aesthetic.

en ce qui me concerne, j’ai toujours aimé les têtes de mort (et pourtant, la vie est la plus chose au monde, la création, la naissance d’un enfant, etc).
mais plus que la mort, je crois que c’est la vieillesse qui me fait peur… la vraie vieillesse, la pas belle, celle avec de la souffrance et de la maladie…
