Winter Eyes

Winter Eyes

  • I have the same problem (but with Berlin winter) and just this year discovered Weleda Pomegranate Regenerating Body Oil – I only use a tiny little bit but it aleready repaired and smoothed my skin
and it smells great – at night I sometimes switch it with the lavendar oil, it is just as great and the smell calms me down

  • I use avocado oil for the eye area, it’s soft and really nourishing.

  • I used to have this issue whenever I was stressed : red, itchy eyelids, it was a nightmare ! I now use a gel, by La Roche Posay : Hydraphase Intense Yeux. Its very hydrating without the heaviness of a cream, and its such a pleasure to apply in the morning, I have been using it now for more than 5 years ! give it a try !

  • I use a combination of a body oil by French brand Lierac and Renewed Hope in a Jar by Philosophy. The two combined work wonders on my dry face. I’m a big fan of Philosophy’s products – every one I’ve ever used has been awesome.

  • I always add a facial oil to my moisturizer in the winter (usually rosehip oil for added antioxidants, but it’s not as moisturizing as argan oil). Sheet masks and a lot of hydrating layers are also a big help (the Mediheal SOS snail mask really is for those situations when your skin is screaming SOS). Finally a thick cream to top everything off (Innisfree’s Green Tea Intense or the Guerisson 9 Horse Oil cream are both wonderful).

  • Arielle – Unfortunately, argan oil makes my skin freak out for some reason, but I’ll be sure to check out Innisfree. Thank you! x Carie

  • Run a humidifier – especially at night while you are sleeping. Does wonders for dried out/inflamed sinuses and don’t feel like my skin is as dry, either.

Your eye irritation may actually be a food allergy /sensitivity….I was eating eggs daily and developed inflamed skin around the eyes. Stopped eating eggs and the irritation was gone. I can still eat eggs now but maybe 1-2x/week and not daily. Eliminate something you eat all the time (tough I know) and see what happens.

  • My eye area gets really dry, so I use this: pure hyaluron ampoules (small amounts of the pure stuff, without anything else added to it, one lasts for 2-3 days – I use it for the whole face too) and apply the classic Shiseido Concentrate Eye Cream on top to keep the moisture locked in. I just always come back to this classic cream, although it is quite heavy. I use it more under the eyes during the day, or else my makeup would not stay on well (at night I use it all over, not too thick, or else my eyes get puffy). Never fails, when the weather is really cold and dry.

In short: moisturizing serum underneath – pure hyaluron is great, if you are sensitive in the eye area – and something a little heavier on top, to keep the moisture locked in.

  • Love this, Ava. Thank you! x Carie

Yes. Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream from Sephora or Amazon online. It’s now a holy grail for this exact need.

I swear by Natura Bisse – Diamond Extreme. It’s pricey but results are fab. Another alternative is Sensai from Kanebo. Try the Cellular Performance cream. Not sure if you can get in it the US…

  • Thank you for the recommendations, Jennifer! x Carie

I have been looking for the perfect eye cream for months, and Sensai Cellular Performance is the best I have tested so far. I would also the Sisley eye contour mask, which does wonders to the eye area.

  • Clarins Eye Contour Balm! It works for me even with -20º temperatures (Yes, I live in a cold hell)

  • I have same problem like you, but I’m starting to use ‘Ultra facial cream’ from Kiehl’s if you know this brand. And it’s perfect!! I never have cream like this before, I have alergic on everything I put on my face except this magic cream, so I think you can try this! It’s for dry skin and for sensitive skin, I hope you find the best for you :)

  • You could have eyelid eczema! I get this only in the winter (I think it’s a combo of the cold wind and the indoor heating). Go to the doctor–I was prescribed protopic. I do a super thin layer of that, then a thin layer of Aveeno’s Eczema Care cream for babies overtop. Also, run a humidifier at night and get a desktop humidifier–this makes a huge difference.

  • Amanda – I always forget about the humidifier! Very good tip! x Carie

  • Protopic is extremely damaging to your skin and it can lead to an addiction – your skin forgets how to operate naturally without the immune suppression (which is what Protopic is, an immunosuppresant). There is no way you should be using it on your face! (or anywhere!). I used it for several months after being prescribed it by my derm/doctor and had an awful, awful time when I stopped using it – the rash spread from my eyelids and around my mouth to my entire face and body within a week. It made my eyelid skin soooo thin and it’s still red to this day. I hope this doesn’t come across as rude but anytime I hear of people using Protopic, hydrocortisone or other steroid creams for their skin I have to say something! You can visit itsan.org for more information on how these « treatments » cause long term damage. xxx

  • I also was told not to use those sorts of medications around the eyes especially because they can cause lots of nasty problems including cancer and glaucoma. I used to get terrible eczema around my eyes and mouth in the winter from the temperature issues but also increase in dust mites. I only use rose water to cleanse and then I use vitamin E oil with Elizabeth Arden’s 8 hr cream protectant over top. My eyes have never looked better.

  • Vichy Aqualia Thermal Serum helps! I apply it to the face 2x daily and my under-eye area feels better and less scaly.

  • I do my own eye balm by myself (I also do my micellar water). It’s fun it’s perfect for me as in winter I do need more than a simple eye cream. I do not know what wrinkles are.

  • I had this happen to me once in the winter and was desperate for help. I found it in Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. It completely cleared up my major dryness in a day or two.

  • I have combination skin with an oily t-zone, but even my oilier skin is no match for the dry skin problems that come from indoor heated environments. So, whenever I feel a bit of eczema developing around my eyes, I make sure to cleanse with something gentle (like Cetaphil or Cerave’s Hydrating Facial Wash) using tepid water only. Then I pat on some Cerave Facial Moisturizing Lotion PM (which contains ceramides and niacimides which are supposed to help strengthen the skin’s natural moisture barrier to prevent irritation). Then I pat on an emollient-rich moisturizer (like Borage Therapy Eye Cream which contains borage oil, jojoba oil and shea butter high on the list). During this time, I also refrain from any exfoliants, acids or retinals until the skin barrier is healthy again. I found the Borage Therapy Eye Cream to work really well to soothe any irritated skin area (I got mine from Whole Body). I also find that taking an omega 3 supplement generally beneficial for skin during the dry winter months. And don’t forget to get a humidifier too. Good luck, and hope your skin gets better soon!

  • One more thing, rosehip oil is supposed to be high in natural vitamin C, so perhaps you want to try another more neutral oil on the irritated skin areas until the dry patches clear up. I am no expert in oils, but it may be something worth considering.

  • Hi girls! I have just the same problem in winter. Lately I have been using L’occitane Shea Butter line (for face, for body, for hands, for lips), and this line really works. You may try, in particular their hand cream and lip balm, which are quite impressive.

  • Replenix Eye Repair Cream – I’ve been using it for years.

Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. You’re welcome!!

  • I have the same issue and really feel better since my grand-mother bought me the Eight Hour Cream by Elizabeth Arden, perfect for irritated eyes zone or even dried lips ! xx

  • SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic, pricey but meant to combat UVA/UVB rays with antioxidants that help stimulate collagen production. It’s not greasy either!

  • Sephora eye mask

Hello since you seem to like more naturally based skincare you might like the Evan Healy Wild Carrot Nourishing Eye Balm. It is a balm in a stick so it’s easy to carry with you. It’s thick by not greasy. I also use it around my mouth and on my mips.

  • Rosebud salve – the one that comes in the small round tin, the original. Use it on my eyelids and under the eye morning and night for same issue you have. It’s very soothing and is only thing that’s helped me. And super inexpensive!

  • Jules – I forgot how much I love Rosebud Salve. Thank you for the reminder and tip! x Carie

  • I have been using the Lancome Nutrix on my face and in the eye Area the gel All about the eyes from Clinique. Both of them works like wonders!! Hope your condition gets better.

I have oily skin but in the winter it turns to a dryer slightly flakey look. I use the night to bring it back to a dewy look with Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. I also travel a lot to Calgary Alberta and the climate is dry to the extreme. When I am there I use one drop of Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate, under my foundation. Works like a charm for me.

  • I second the Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. For face Kypris Antioxidant Dew (hydrating serum) + Daily Skin Booster from MV Organic skincare (face oil). It’s the perfect combination :-)

  • HI CARIE!

I GET YOU, I HAVE EXTREMELY SENSITIVE SKIN PLUS I DON’T LIKE USING A TON OF BEAUTY PRODUCTS OR SUPER FANCY THINGS. THAT IS WHY I GRAVITATE TOWARDS NATURAL/SIMPLE SKINCARE. I USE OLIVE OIL TO REMOVE MY EYE MAKEUP (IF I EVER WEAR ANY) THIS IS SUPER SOFT AND GENTLE WITH MY SKIN, DON’T WORRY ABOUT IT BEEN OILY, AFTER WASHING YOUR FACE YOU ARE LEFT WITH SMOOTH UNDER EYE SKIN. AND IN THE MORNINGS I WEAR LUSH ENCHANTING EYE CREAM, I LOVE IT! IT WAKES ME UP AND OPENS MY EYES. IT’S SUPER SOFT, IT’S NATURAL (GOOD FOR SENSITIVE SKIN), THEY DO NOT DO ANIMAL TESTING AND THEIR POTS ARE RECYCLED. PLUS IF YOU RETURN FIVE EMPTY POTS YOU GET A FREE FACE MASK!

  • Je vis en Suisse et il y a ici une marque geniale c est Cellcosmet . Et leur contour des yeux est vraiment le meilleur de tous les produits que j ai pu essayer ….
