A Beauty Minute with Chana Ginelle Ewing
4 years ago by
Today we are bringing you a refreshing Beauty Minute with Chana Ginelle Ewing, founder of Geenie. Geenie is a curated beauty marketplace that pairs independent Black-owned beauty brands with consumers looking to buy based on their values. Geenie’s product offerings are sourced from BIPOC and other culture-first makers. Chana is using this platform as a mission to carve out a powerful and meaningful space for intersectionality within the beauty industry. And if you need a gift for a little one this coming holiday season, we highly recommend Chana’s children’s book, An ABC of Equality.
What is your morning beauty routine?
My morning routine is so pared down lately as I’m home 98% of the time. I typically wash my face with Cetaphil Cleanser or SheaMoisture’s African Black Soap + Charcoal collection (the wash, toner, etc.). One thing that I’m super consistent about is Mario Badescu’s Facial Spray in Aloe, Lavender and Chamomile. I don’t leave my mirror before that instant wakeup spritz!
What products do you keep in your bag to use throughout the day?
When I do go out I carry a mascara (typically Maybelline Great Lash, a trusted friend I’ve called on for over a decade :)), and a red lipstick. I’m currently loving Kami Cosmetics WANTED.
What is your evening beauty routine?
I’m not wearing much coverage lately so typically a simple face wash and then bed.
When do you feel most beautiful?
When I’ve created a harmonious look that feels like a full expression of a mood. I’ll have an idea of wanting to look like a “burst of joy,” or a ‘disheveled genius’ for instance, and I feel beautiful when I realize that vibe — from head to toe.
How do you define beauty?
Beauty is intrinsic and innate – its the specificity of something – its essence, its unique quality, so the body and personhood’s aesthetics. What’s interesting is how one gets to roll out and articulate their beauty. It’s so fun when you think about it. You get to self-express in so many wonderfully creative ways.
Love this and her! This is a MUCH more relatable and attainable beauty routine than most on this site (I’m sure La Mer and Vintner’s Daughter are completely amazing, but they are just not in my budget or the budget of anyone I know…). Ms. Ewing’s beauty absolutely radiates from the inside out–thank you for featuring her and her important business and book as well as her beauty routine–« refreshing » is the perfect word! xo
YES – thanks for this! Love the realistic inspiration, very refreshing.
