New year, new skin care routine, right? Which is why we are bringing you this beauty minute from the Owner and Creative Director of MAKE Beauty, Carrie Barber. With skin like that, we are all ears!

What is your morning beauty routine?

I love waking up early because I get more time to myself. I wake up between 5:30-6, make coffee and spend an hour doing anything I want whether it’s scroll Instagram, finish an episode of TV from the night before etc, it’s my one hour of guilt free time. Around 7, depending on how much time I have, I will either start getting ready or do a work out.

Every morning I wash my face with MAKE Succulent Skin Wash, it’s so soft and velvety, my skin feels refreshed and hydrated. My morning skincare is pretty light, I usually only use MAKE Lactonic Skin Serum and Super Cell rich cream if my skin is normal and zit free. If I’m PMSing or been having a little too much fun, I will add iSClinical Active Serum which always helps me when I am breaking out.

Makeup used to be the bare minimum but lately I have been putting on a semi-full face of makeup everyday because it really elevates my mood. I use Armani Concealer and Foundation with a beauty blender, Westman Atelier Face Trace, MAKE Sculpting Gel on my brows, Chanel waterproof eyeliner, and Glossier or Merit Mascara. If I put on a colored lip I will dab on a very small amount of MAKE Silk Cream Lipstick, both on lips and tops of cheek bones. If I want something more sheer I will use Serum Balm.

I wash my hair about twice a week, using Crown Affair shampoo and conditioner one day and the Christophe Robin salt scrub and hair mask the other day. Before I blow dry I use Olaplex No 6 bonding cream and the Crown Affair hair oil and blow-dry my hair with the Revlon Blow Dryer Brush. I am obsessed with this blow dryer, I have bought it twice and I recommend it to anyone who blow drys their hair. It gets really hot so make sure you use a heat protectant.

What products do you use throughout the day and why?

I’m sure this is the part where I am supposed to say I re-apply SPF through out the day but…the only products I really apply through out the day are lip products. If I have something to do after work or a camera on Zoom meeting I will bring concealer and cheek for touch up, but my makeup stays all day.

When its colder and dry I apply a rich cream on my hands like Super Cell (I keep a stash at my desk) or Aquaphor when it’s dire…

I wear Byredo Mixed Emotions everyday and will sometimes reapply throughout the day or freshen up with Forrest Lungs from Nue Co.

What is your evening beauty routine?

In general, I like to keep my skincare straightforward because I don’t believe you need a lot of products to have great skin. And there is such a thing as over doing it. That being said, at night I do the most for my skin. Through out the week as maintenance I will use the Mara Beauty Sea Clay mask, Hanacure all-in-one facial kit and my NuFace micro-current device. My nightly skincare starts with MAKE Pre-Cleanse Fluid and Succulent Skin wash, MAKE Acid Phase Liquid exfoliant (every other night), MAKE Lactonic Skin Serum, Naturium Azelaic Acid and Super Cell. Once or twice a week I will seal this all in with MAKE Hibernation Capsule.

Before I got to bed I take a good amount of Magnesium and lately I have been drinking these Kin Euphorics calm drinks that legit knock me out in 20 mins and help me sleep through the night.

What is your definition of beauty?

When I see beauty in other people I see their kindness, their attention to detail, the active listening and undivided attention they give…this is how beauty is showing up for me now.

When do you feel most beautiful?

When I have spent the time to check in with myself, when I slow down and I am present in what I am doing. That gives me confidence and a connectedness that inherently makes me feel beautiful.
