Sex & Rage

Not going to lie, I bought this book because I really liked the cover…
I had heard of Eve Babitz, but didn’t really know much about her, or her writing. I just love a fine looking cover on my bookshelf and when I read the back of the book I thought it sounded pretty good. But then when I actually got around to reading Sex & Rage—while I happened to be in LA, visiting Garance—I flew through it. The New Yorker recently referred to Babitz with the word gratification, and they’re totally right. This book—and Babitz’ writing—is gratifying. Simple, spontaneous, debaucherous, sexy and funny. It didn’t take itself too seriously. It’s about a happy-go-lucky girl living in LA who is swept up in the social scene after a childhood by the beach, and develops a drinking problem right around the time she has to start taking herself a little more seriously due to the must-write book she’s commissioned to do by her New York agent, who she also met rather haphazardly. This book was a total pleasure—short and sweet—and it looks damn good on my bookshelf.
Looks amazing.I will read it
