Notes on Couture
8 years ago by
For some reason, couture always reminds me of the 80s, or just general excessiveness.
There’s something about the use of diamante crystals, every breed of feather known to man, and so much pleated tulle you can no longer see the wearer that brings nostalgic feelings. And rightfully so, haute couture has been around since the 1700s, you can thank the likes of over-indulgent Marie Antoinette herself. A protected name that may not even be used except by those who meet certain well-defined standards.
So if you think putting garments on display that have no price tag because budget is not relevant doesn’t feel modern, it’s one of the oldest traditions in fashion that I fully support. It is, in the very least, anything but fast-fashion and for that, I am thankful.

Couldn’t agree with you more on this dear Brie! There is pure textile magic in couture garments – such precious items…
