Monkey See!

Happy Year of the Monkey! Even with all the great food (any day is a good day for dimsum) and the parade this weekend, there is some sad news.
Although it has been in the works for a while, Pearl River Market is shutting down in the next couple months due to their skyrocketing rent in Soho.
Pearl River has always been one of those go to places for my family. Need some rice bowls? Pearl River. Looking for a cheongsam? Pearl River has them in every color for every age. In proper Chinese fashion, the store has always been a kind of dependable, homey emporium.
Clearly we aren’t the only ones to feel such a strong connection to the store. Last week Opening Ceremony released a collection to pay homage to the store’s iconic image. Dragon motifs, high collars, and knot buttons included!
Are there any places that have this kind of sentimental meaning to you? Is there anyone else who is going to miss Pearl River as much as me?

Une institution qui ferme c’est toujours triste… Et le Pearl River Market est (était) une vraie institution de SoHo. Le pire c’est qu’il sera probablement remplacé par un Zara ou un H&M…
Encore quelques semaines pour aller y faire un tour!
Yes! Pearl River has been one of my favorite Soho places for years. Always find interesting and useful gifts there as well as yummy foods. Hope to visit one more time before it closes.
Takashimaya on 5th Avenue was a beautiful, small department store. First floor flowers and gardening equipment, downstairs tea shop. And the fashion. I’ve missed it fervently since it closed.
I always wish that more things would stay the same in our fast paced world. :(
I just watched “You’ve got mail.” and this movie is still so on spot (the closing of the book store).
