Madewell’s Sustainable Swim
5 years ago by
When it comes to escape, I can’t help but think about a beach and frolicking in the ocean. But you can’t blame me, it’s been freezing in New York and I’m itching to jump on my flight to Miami in a couple of weeks to get that vitamin D. And while I’m not thrilled about the prospect of sausaging my pale, squishy winter body into swimwear, I do feel a little bit better about doing it when I know it’s swimwear designed from recycled plastic.
Yep, that’s right. Madewell launched a new collection of swim last week that’s all made from recycled plastic and retails for under $100. I love the idea of taking the plastic that’s washed up on our beaches and strangling our oceans out of the water and putting it onto our bodies. According to Madewell, they used approximately 50,000 plastic bottles to produce the collection, with each piece of swimwear using four to eight bottles. We still have a long way to go when it comes to fast fashion and helping the environment, but I’m glad to see brands as big as Madewell making an effort in the right direction.
