Dear Julia,
I fully recognize the dangers of believing you could truly be friends with someone who is famous if only given the chance, but I’m going to go out on a limb and put it out there; Julia, you and I could really be best friends.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t pretend to believe I know you at all or think your public persona is who you are behind closed doors, but I’d like to think you are the confident, comfortable-in-your-own-skin, classy, foul-mouthed woman I imagine you to be.
Your comedic timing and ability to go from angry to sad to endearing to bitchy as both Elaine Benes and Selina Meyer among many (I’m looking at you, Christmas Vacation’s Margo Chester) never ceases to amaze me. Your quick wit (in all of your roles and real life) and infectious laugh have turned many a stressful day into a better one and I know I can always count on you to lighten my mood.
I could go on and on about how you created a cultural icon, but there is no need, because before and beyond that, you are truly hilarious.
Always,
Carie
Nobody in the history of american sitcoms will ever beat Elaine’s dance moves.
