Half Moon
9 years ago by
For those of us less courageous in the nail art domain…
I think I’ve found a solution! A nail art that’s so approachable and subtle enough to wear even if you’ve never been one to apply a sequin or go graphic with your polish – the half moon!
I know it’s not radical or out there, but that is perfect for me – or anyone who is most inclined to nails that can be worn anywhere (office, out to dinner, meetings…) without a second thought. I was with my friends Amy and Renée and they completely inspired me to try this out in white, my default polish color.
And what I love the most, is that, once it starts to chip, it’s fairly easy to do at home. Just bring a steady hand and your color of choice, plus a clear polish for base and top coat. First, shape and clean nails. Then use a base coat. Third, take your color of choice and, using a toothpick or something similar, dip it in the polish and draw an arc on your nail as a border/outline – fill in the larger section using the polish brush. Apply a second coat of color on the same area. Finish with a top coat of clear polish. Voila!
What do you think?! Into it or not so much?

In white it just looks a bit like a French manicure gone wrong. It might work better in another colour though!
Yes!!! I love it, and I need to try it. But I think I’ll go to the salon for that one. I don’t trust myself with a toothpick and nail polish haha.
Magnifique cette manucure !! ?

I can’t wait to try this!!!
Yes! I really like the shape of it. Very lovely.
Totally agree and love that these can be worn anywhere. I am a super minimalist in the beauty dept. and don’t even take time for my nails (due to upkeep), but would definitely do these when I need a polished look.
Lovely lorsqu’on a des mains magnifiques et des ongles hyper bien limés.
I do this at home: cut hole-punch reinforcement stickers in half and use them as a guide to create the half moon. Super easy!
Je suis très branchée vernis mais pas trop nail art … Ceci dit j’avais remarqué la moon manucure il y a quelques temps et c’est totalement le genre de choses que je suis partante pour essayer ! Chic et élégant, vraiment bien !

I read that some girls use Reinforcements for Hole-Punched Pages :) Perfect shape, easily removable!
That sounds crazy but one of the last times I went back to my parents’ house, I looked through the drawers to look for these.
Truth is, I stopped applying nail polish before trying that technique.
Let me know if you ever try it!

I did and it works!
tu pose ton vernis blanc
tu retires tout de suite l’œillet
et hop ton arrondi est parfait
C’est très joli et simple ! Je ne suis pas fan du nail art mais quand c’est subtil j’adore !

Even easier to do a perfect half moon if you use the stickers that reinforce holes in paper (the ones you’d use in a binder)! Just pop it half onto your cuticle, half onto the nail and paint away.
