Falling for Phelan

It’s an easy thing to do.
Especially if, like me, you harbor soft spots easily for sculptural silhouettes and unique fabrics (lightweight metal thread used in body-skimming dresses?!). Ok, so maybe some of the ‘sculptural’ elements are a little too much, but I love the new line’s way of taking you into the not so distant future (but the future nonetheless!).
And more than that, I think designer Amanda Phelan’s whole premise and inspiration are truly compelling. You might have heard on the grapevine that her inaugural presentation included dancers, and that kind of movement is at the heart of the brand. Coming from a dancing background herself, what makes Amanda tick as a designer is seeing how things move in space; how materials flow, expand and contract. Seriously, some of her pieces you can almost play like an accordion… Haha.
Beauty and quality will always trump (at least for me) when it comes to clothes, but understanding a little more of the concept and designer, and being able to appreciate the thought behind a collection, or single piece, is pretty important. A little like knowing a bit about the author before reading their books…
What do you think?
Photo, Phelan.
I love that black dress, it’s sexy and revealing without being trashy.

Every once in awhile I want to be inside one of these shots. This is one of those times. Everything here for me spells peace, tranquillity and style.
