Aker Fassi Lip Stain

Recently, I’ve been obsessed with lip and cheek stains for a natural flush. Glossier’s Cloud Paint (in Haze or Storm) or Benefit’s Benetint are my usual go-to’s. I started by just using them on my cheeks but recently, I have been loving applying them on my eyes, my lips, and even a little on the bridge of my nose if I want to feel that “sun-kissed, just came back from a sunny vacation” look.
On my recent trip to Paris, I stopped by the store Officine Universelle Buly 1803, the most beautiful skincare company inspired by a 17th-century dispensary. Resembling a classic apothecary, Buly is far more than just it’s popular face oils and cleansers.
One of the unique products they sell is called the “Aker Fassi”, a natural lip stain made from poppy petal pigment. “Aker Fassi,” an essential to the traditional Moroccan Berber woman’s beauty routine, is meant to sublimate one’s smile and bring a natural glow to the lips. This bright red stain comes in a beautiful terracotta vessel that is dry to the touch. With a drop of water applied directly to the pigment, it immediately turns into a reddish liquid that can be applied with either a brush or fingers to the lips for a nice bitten-lip look.
Although it is marketed as a lip stain, I have used it on the apples of my cheeks as well for an “I just woke up from a summer nap” vibe. Not only does it give an incredible rosy tint, but it’s ALL NATURAL! Being a serious lip and cheek stain connoisseur, I can truly say that Buly’s “Aker Fassi” is a fierce competitor.
