Three days after the snow storm, the streets of New York are still covered with mountains of snow and huge ponds of water. Wearing heels is totally nuts ! I am ordering those duck boots for next time.

Those are *everywhere* at my university… I recommend the knee-high version (if they still exist) because they’re so much more hardcore :)

C’est rare un post le dimanche… comme c’est bon de pouvoir te lire avec un bon thé tout fumant…et de voir la neige autour de ces chaussures parfaites pour le ski non ?

Nothing worse than when a snow storm hits and you don’t have appropriate footwear, but you can’t get to the shops to buy said appropriate footwear. Housebound! Hope New York is treating you well.

J’habite Montréal, alors la neige nous suit quelques mois par année.
Cet hiver j’ai acheté une paire semblable de Marc Jacob…..elles sont noires et plus discrètes si l’on peut dire, histoire de faire un compromis avec les trottoirs encombrés de matières glissantes !
I wear these all the time after the snow. They may not be elegant but it feels great to stomp across snow mounds along the street!
You have to give up heels with the snow in NY. The salt on the streets will just KILL your leather shoes (not to mention slipping and falling)!
Elles ont un côté rétro très américain, j’aime. Et bien plus raisonnables que des talons !
J’aime bien la façon désinvolte avec laquelle elles sont portées: lacets à moitié faits, et languette ouverte.
J’ai trouvé pour affronter la neige et la pluie une paire de bottes cavalières Aigle, qui sont parfaites!
Oui ! On veut avoir des nouvelles des cheveux. Très bonne photo par ailleurs. On doit avoir les pieds mouillés avec les chaussures ouvertes comme ça, non ?
I live in Michigan and go to college on the largest campus in the United States; so I understand completely how important it is to find good boots for the snow. And unfortunately, my (slightly) ironic large red moonboots have sprung a leak. But those LL Bean boots look pretty darn fantastic.

duck boots are pretty much the most important shoe to own for nyc winters, but whenever i wear them i feel a bit like a lumberjack.
ah ah mon Mr adore ces chaussures et en a une bonne dizaine à suivre sur ebay!perso je ne sais pas, peut être que ça n’est pas encore assez la tempête mais je ne peux pas! en revanche j’ai craqué pour des bottes de pluie fourrées (le mot est faible) de la marque Tretorn et là je kiffe vraiment!!
Tu m’étonnes ! à NY, sous la neige, il y a un moment où il faut privilégier le pratique à l’esthétique, bien que ces shoes sont plutôt mignonnes pour leurs fonctions !!! je les aime bien moi :-)
Quand on habitait là-bas, et qu’il neigeait des jours durant, et qu’il faisait jusqu’à – 33°C parfois, mon mec allait au boulot en Columbia, et changeait ses chaussures en arrivant au bureau. Et TOUT LE MONDE faisait la même chose. Moi, j’arpentais les rues enneigées en bottes archi fourrées Genre Ugg mais pas Ugg avec une semelle énorme pour ne pas me tremper les pieds et TOUT LE MONDE faisait la même chose. J’avais troqué mon joli manteau contre une énorme doudoune qui allait jusqu’aux pieds. Bref, on avait froid, très froid, et à part une harmonie des couleurs pour rester un peu jolie, les effets de style étaient plutôt orientés Trappeurs Canadien …

Bizarrement, j’ai moins de mal à marcher avec mes talons Tod’s qu’avec des boots crantées… je n’y comprends rien.

I don’t know, L.L. Bean duck boots seem right down there with UGGs, Crocs, MBTs, and clogs. Sure, they “work” but so do a lot of other, far better looking waterproof boots.

Sinon, les chaussures sont vraiment jolies et pratiques, mais je croyais que les produits L.L. BEAN etaient un peu depassés ( jusqu’à rire des personnes qui portaient des vetements L.L. BEAN)? Ils se sont ameliorés à ce que je vois.

This made my day, Garance. I have these boots and love them! They are by far the best thing to ever happen to snow boots. They last for years upon years, and contrary to what others seem to think, they are very cut, and I am quite sure you can make them look chic. I get compliments on the constantly. They are the ONLY shoe for serious winters, do get a pair! xx.
This is my first introduction to LL bean and Duck Boots, they look sturdy and have a strange utilitarian charm and beauty. When back in the UK winters, these may be a necessary purchase! Are they very common in US then?

My sister was visiting last night and we went out to dinner in the West Village and then to Magnolia. The girl behind me was wearing peep-toe heels without socks. Said that she was sick of hiding her feet in boots. Then I saw another girl in sling-backs on the subway.
I personally think it’s nuts. I choose comfort (and style) over not being able to feel my feet…. the duck boots are darling, besides!

I have a pair of those I bought twenty years ago. They’re as good now as they were new — maybe better. Not sure about these people who think they aren’t beautiful, or are comparing them to Crocs, of all gawd-awful things. I am pretty sure that in 20 years, no one is going to be treasuring a pair of Crocs they bought last summer.

H&M ont fait il y a un an ou deux des bottes en plastique à talons mais antidérapantes , en association avec la marque tretorn, ce serait l’occasion de leur suggérer d’autres collaborations de ce genre..Et je crois que Marc Jacobs édite aussi régulièrement des bottes de ce genre…

How much sexier for a woman to be able to walk confidently through the snow, or be able to play and have fun when wearing appropriate footwear. A lot of people would not consider these beautiful, but they really are when you consider what a great difference it makes!

Yes, definitely a necessity in cold, snowy winter! Waterproof, flannel and shearling-lined, very cute and chic in a outdoor girl way. I finally bought a pair at the beginning of the winter and I wear them all the time. Laced all the way up, they fit very slim to the leg and not chunky at all. Definitely more discreet style than duck boots of the past.
LOL! You haven’t bought a pair yet! I thought you would have… I recommend those LL Beans or Sorels (tougher and bulkier but works and will last you for years, I mean for really long years, like 10 years) OR… you can always get those welliies and buy the liners to make it warmer and just remove them for lighter warmer but rainy days.
I’ve been dreaming of the JIMMY CHOO for Hunter wellies… I guess I’ll keep on dreaming :(

They are still made in Maine, and have been since 1912. A real heritage product! And they will keep my feet warm and dry in the snow drifts here in Bangor…

Yes, how I am not missing NY right now as I write this from very sunny and warm Arizona.
This time of year is all about the snow, the sleet, the cold pools of water on sidewalk and streets…when it isn’t too slushy I like to wear my Frye boots there, the heels allows for just enough to rise above the water and for one to run around and feel bit stylish still. LL Bean Duck Boots are classic – I recall being forced to wear them in navy blue as a teenager by my mother! Oh it was horror then but now they are quite cute really aren’t they!

Garance, I grew up in the Midwest and just went through the blizzard in DC – Bean boots are the best! They are the least slippery on icy sidewalks and keep feet nice and warm. I always tuck my jeans in and stay dry through the snow and slush. Get Thinsulate ones if you really want to be warm.
